I actually spent some time reading your links. Then I talked to my wife (who is a school teacher) about it, and she simply replied that all of this is well known. She said the question isn't what is happening but how to deal with it. Children do need to learn something about conformity since that is going to be important to them as adults in society, unless you think we can have a world full of unibombers and be OK. There is value in questioning the system, hell I've been doing it my whole life and never gained a damn thing from it, but the reality is you can't just criticize and expect everyone else to come up with a solution.

I have had to work for and with more than a few people that "are more productive than most people".. the fact is it's bullshit. 99.9% of the time they don't produce more they simply use legal and sometimes not so legal means to bully other people into doing the work for them.

This has been going on since ancient times it hasn't changed. A very few feel that they are worth more than everyone else, and are willing to fight to take that wealth from anyone they have to... their own mother if need be. Bill Gates did not make billions of dollars. He stood at the head of a company that made billions of dollars and raked in a much larger share for himself than any of the people working for him. That doesn't mean he is more productive. Just more powerful. Like the robber barons of the past, and the conquerors before them. They just take a larger share for themselves.

IANAS,.. but I'll giver a go, let's break it down like a math problem shall we..

So in virtue of what is it true

Obviously truth is virtuous so that is strait forward enough..

that there could have been Aliens when in fact there are none,

And since this statement is basically true there are no Aliens..

and when, moreover, nothing that exists in fact could have been an Alien?

Aha.. and here is the sum of the problem. Nope nothing exists that could have been an Alien.

So, (the virtue of the truth) + (not having aliens) = (no existing aliens) ... ?

There see how simple that was?

Take a look at the extent to which MS has redesigned Windows Mobile 7 - I strongly suspect that it will be a viable challenger to Android and Apple in the near future.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Being late to market isn't necessarily a killer, but being late to market when it means you have only a small fraction of the apps needed to compete is huge. People already know Iphone/Droid branding, and people already know that they either of those phones will do what they need. When Android started out it was only available on cheap hardeware, and that hurt it. Now Mobile7 is only going to go through the same thing. It is going to be a really tough sell competing with free. (Maybe it's karma for Internet explorer.. who knows)

With that said, many, many flash sites load and run very well on my Nexus One. More than I would have thought, and I can always turn it off, or not go to the site.

I do independent game development in my spare time. I use Linux as much as possible, but that last little stretch of getting content into the engine still sadly needs windows. (a complete fully functional and modern game engine is a daunting task that I don't expect to be filled in the FOSS crowd soon, if ever). The reality is that even though I dual boot, I spend at least 90% of my time on Kubuntu. I am quite sure that most people who have a stable dual boot system (not reloading every other day) are in a very similar situation, in that they need windows for only a few small things.

If the banks simply created a custom disk for every customer, that included things like passwds, accounting software, etc. It would not be such a pain and people would try it. The feeling of security that the bank and the customer would get out of it would be worth it.

The only downside is that the disk itself could be stolen, but then so can your bank card or visa. The other obvious problem is that people may think that the reason the disk is safe is because it's Ubuntu and just install it on disk, and then use it just as insecurely as they do windows.
