Yes, and I see no problem with that.. I'm already signing a contract to upload my first born child to them (if I have one) and in return, they will make sure that he lives.. forever...
LaVigne has done some homework and found a program that would prevent the illegal downloads from happening in the future; however, it would cost the cash-strapped county about $2,900 to implement, $2,000 for equipment and then $900 annually for the filtering program.
Man have I got some stuff I would love to sell them. Like my amazing crypto software that hides all of your important data in a jpeg!!!
I don't know about Chrome being faster on Linux than Windows, but I do know that it cleans the plate vs. Firefox on Linux. I'm using the Ubuntu version at "deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable main" and I can finally pull Slashdot stories up in a second tab without locking up the browser while it loads. Scrolling and rendering are also noticeably faster.
I think the point is that Hulu is paying for their bandwidth, and that since their advertisers are US based and that the content providers would like the opportunity to market their product in other counties. They cannot allow people outside the US to view it without losing their content.
I live here in Seattle, and this has been discussed in the newspapers before. Actually Microsoft does sell software here in Washington, just not very much. However, I think the state is just as happy to have all the high paying jobs. Technically Boeing is the largest single employer here in Seattle and they have sold planes out of Delaware for many years. It's nothing new.
Washington state has sales tax in place of income tax in other states. Currently it is 6.5% state wide, with an added 2.5% here in King county. So MS, Boeing, Motorola, Adobe, etc. all have sales outlets outside the state.
while I agree that the N900 could be and Iphone killer. The first thing that comes to mind is apps. Android already has thousands of apps, and the market from a developers point of view is compelling. I can't remember all of the dev's I've spoken to who are sick of dealing with Apple. That tied to the fact that the Iphone market is already saturated, and the sheer number of android phones coming to market make developing for android that much more enticing.
Actually the Android phones remind me a lot of a certain other OS that took the PC market by storm in the early 90's
I have been there. First there is only one way in or out of the event. Second there is a huge plastic trash fence that runs around the entire event (about 7 or 8 miles I think). Third, the fence is patrolled. Fourth, all vehicles are searched upon entrance for weapons or stowaways.
It may seem a bit to controlling if you have never been there but actually if there was absolutely no law and order in a city of 40,000 to 60,000 people you would see a lot of horrible crime. Once you are you are pretty much responsible for yourself. There are real police patrolling the streets but not that many.
You know I'm actually kind of sick of this thread now. Most of the people posting here have never been and will never go.. so what is the point of this discussion anyway.:P

I agree with you in some points.. I loved the KDE3 polish. The way I could right click on an image and change it from tga to png on the fly. The way sftp, and smb worked in all the save and open dialogs. It was a pleasure to operate. However, I'm a graphics nut and I do love the new interface. I also like the search in the menu. I can no longer get used to Gnome for that one reason.
KDE is coming together, albeit slowly but it is coming. I've been using Digikam, and Amarok, and Kdenlive lately. Watching them progress so much this last year has reminded me of what it was like to whatch kde3 progess. All of the amazing changes that happened, and we waited for almost daily.
Now with KDE4 we just expect that all of the stuff we got with KDE3 was just going to magically hop on the train, but it hasn't. It is taking time just like it did with the 3 series, and we are impatient because we have work to do and our lives to go on with. I understand how you feel, but I also understand now though that it will work out... and I am now at least OK with that and certainly willing to wait.

I use Kubuntu.. ya there have been things in the past that made me upset about the way Kubuntu's packages seemed to work. So this last year I decided to reinstall with OpenSuse, actually just before I did a seminar at Linuxfest Northwest on 3d game character modeling.
The Seminar went great as far as attendance, and I had material I had created just for it.. but OpenSuse's nvidia driver was not working properly, so people were asking questions like "why is the animation so jerky". I had no recourse but to say.. "I just installed OpenSuse"..
I'm back on Kubuntu and quite happy actually this release has been very nice.
I think it's more about liability, and having your hands tied by being afraid that you are copying. They don't want to copy anyone else's work and they don't want to be influenced for or against it. They want a fresh clean outlook on the DE and they are willing to listen to suggestions. Just don't try to tell them to copy any one else's work.
Here's an idea for you. Try coming up with new and inventive ideas to give them.;)
Also I haven't noticed a single mention here that part of the reason that the f-35 was so much cheaper to develop is because it re-uses much of the R&D that was done in creating the f-22. All of that money has been rolled into the f-22 per plane cost but much of it could just as well be rolled into the cost of the f-35 since both planes share quite a bit of technology.
For Christ's sake. Who the hell builds these things. We are obviously spending a lot of time and money to put this embarrassingly expensive thing in to space only to have it crap out on us. (excuse the pun). But seriously, I'm starting to think that NASA has become a joke..
It's simple to understand why some people question it really. If Spain had sent explorers to the new world, and then no one had repeated the journey for say 40 years, many people would have questioned it's existence. The fact that we propose to have done something in the 60's that we are incapable of doing today leads to the questions.
Perhaps everyone here is missing the point. So lets break out the car analogy shall we?
If there are two cars on a lot, and both of them are in good running condition, and both are pretty sporty, but one is shiny and polished with clean lines, and the other is dull and faded with boxy lines.. which would you look at first?
It isn't that one is necessarily better than the other it's that one has obviosly had more care than the other and that is the issue here. Game manufacturers are just as wise to this as are car dealers. They know people believe that the shiny clean graphic mean there is a better chance they will get a well thought out game
No it's a very mature industry. Allindustries go over time and over budget. It is a reality of life that we all think we can do more than we actually can. When that happens on the job we feel the consequences.
Now I'm not saying that is what happened here but it is a reality.
I would love to hear this story from someone on the inside. I can't imagine that you pilfer away $12m and nothing happens. I know they must have had numerous redo's but to not produce anything for a million dollars a year in production is just unthinkable!

yes, but how many cold microbrews would it take to reach that temp?
All I know is I want to be able to move, normal map, and texture 10M Triangles in real time. When they can do that.. I'll buy beer for everyone!
