For those of you not familiar with this argument. The basis of ID comes from a book written by Micheal Behe called "Darwin's black box". In that book he argues that at a certian level an organism cannot be reduced any more and still be a functional organism. It's basically like saying 'If I take an engine out of a car. It's not a car anymore... and that means there's god'
As a side note, I must add that this decision may also mean that if I go to court for a ticket I won't be conviced of murder.
I want a firefox extension that searches through personals and finds all the hotties.. then sends them a cool email detailing why they want me... and then if that doesn't work it goes out on the town and introduces me to hot chicks at nightclubs.. uhm.. well.. that's what I want..
FYI.. Kword imports PDF files, and allows you to edit them. At least as well as it imports word docs (not perfectly by long shot). However, there is still no export to either of those document types, which is my real reason for not using it more.
True. However, most people (with the exception of Gentoo users) don't upgrade thier software that often, much less corporations. Deployment is costly, and the price you pay to just have something work is more than what most companies are willing to pay untill there is a worthwhile reason to do so. Other than that support staff only upgrade for security or bugs.
I am an amature web designer, I am self taught and have been doing more and more commercial work on the side, because people are wanting to use the cheap linux web space out there and need people familiar with software like Drupal.
Recently I have been working a bit with a graphics designer that uses a Mac and Adobe to do her work. She was surprised at some of the stuff I was able to do with open source software and admitted that if the software she used was available on Linux, she would seriously consider switching.
One last thought, with some corprate backing the Mozilla SVG project would probably take the web by storm.
There is a great KIO slave called locate that uses the slocate database on your system. It is fast and allows you to traverse all located files and folders as if they were an independant filesystem.
This is odd, I remember hearing this thing about hot water freezing faster when I tried to take hot water out to my horse, when I was a kid. (no I'm not kidding, I had a horse.) My father told me that the water would freeze faster if it was hot, but I didn't believe him. I have never tried this with a refrigerator, but I have to admit in this situation he was right. I timed it several times and came to the same conclusion.
This was the theory I came up with then. (please rate this 1:unplausable)
100 deg cel | |
80 deg cel |bucket 1| (diff between b1 and end 80 deg between b1 & b2 40 deg)
60 deg cel | |
40 deg cel |bucket 2| (diff between b2 and end 20 deg)
20 deg cel | |
0 deg cel |end temp|
-20 deg cel | |
-40 deg cel | |
-60 deg cel | |
the resulting difference being the same as if bucket 1 was at 20 deg cel moving to -20 cel meaning that bucket 1 would reach temp 0 cel at half the time
Even if your suit will stop 99% of all bullets, and your fit enough to beat thugs people into submission 95% of the time....... If you go crimefighting every night, after a few months youre chances of being a corpse in some alley are really really good.
This is why I recommend the alternative approach. Supervillian. You can then pick an choose your battles, and don't forget to run away!
1: I want to go out tonight. I've heard of this really cool new art show but I don't know where it is. I look up the intersection and realize that the addressing in that neighborhood is all screwy. I check the location using the 3d map and get a quick visual. I'm on my way.
2: I am looking at a 3d view of the city, in it I can see links that connect me to thousands of activities. Not just general mapping but social mapping that allows the user to search for data, that connects her/him to whatever is relevant in a fashion that is understandable. ie "yes there is a party for software advocacy tonite however it is on the end of an unused warf beneath a layer of cow dung".
This would be a tremendous aid to people searching for things in the real world. Some of you may remember what that is like if you look at the images long enough....
Microsoft has nothing to sell in the x86 market, that's all. If ISV's were willing to port all of their applications to XP64 then I'm sure people would use it. As is they have an operating system with little or no app's that run on it
That's why they can't sell it, and Ironically that's what I can't seem to find out about Slamd64. Where's the package list??
This is basically a single stage booster system based on 50 year old technoligy.
In order to move to higher "orbital" flights the cost of design and equiptment goes up in multiples using this old school rocketeering tech. It means that the average cost per person will go from $250,000 to more like $1.5M and that makes it highly unlikely that we will see anything more than suborbital shots from this. It's a cheap thrill ride but says nothing of our future space exploration.
Most computer literate people, with experience on windows will switch to pirated copies of XP. Some will do it at the beckoning of their friends. But most will just use what comes with their computer so that they won't break their computer.
Funny thing is that when they see what will happen to their friends unpatched pirated copy of XP in a few months, they will realize that was a wise choice
If a commercial software vendor doesn't support linux people bitch
Yes, there are many, many commercial applications out there that I would buy if they were available on linux. As long as I am bitching. How about IBM releasing their port of Catia.
If a commercial software vendor does support it people bitch that the software isn't GPL
I am the proud owner of about 6 non-GPL games that were ported to linux. The problem is those are the only truly reasonably useful products that have been offered to the average user. I truly feel bad about this but I just won't use NeroLinux.
How about something truly useful like some Macromedia Studio.
If the software gets GPL'd, people bitch that it hasn't been ported to their distros of choice.
Actually if you were to create trees as objects you could very easily catch them on fire if you wanted. Not only that but you can define how the fire reacts to a given object, embed one event loop in another, or any other thing you like for that matter.... You at least read some of the documentation before you post..
For those looking for a little more Meat check out the DOCS over at Enlightenment.org
I have installed the libraries and have been screwing around with it in my spare time for about two weeks. The docs are a little outdated but give you enough info, so that you can figure it out just by looking at the header files.
KDE's Konqueror browser actually gives you a popup warning that the ssl certificate does not match the IP address that it is being issued from, then you have to choose to accept the certificate in order to continue
I tried Reiser4 about 10 months ago. I had to build a kernel that supported it on one hard drive and then migrate to a second Reiser4 hard drive to use it.
The result was unfortunately that during a system crash I lost data and the system was unrecoverable. So was the hard drive. But I still feel that it was noticibly faster.
Hmmm, If a person were using alsa, and jack, would it not be possible to simply redirect the stream? Personally I have never tried it, but It sounds reasonable.
I use both Qcad, and Varicad for my personal drafting. But when my personal distro choice (Gentoo), wasn't supported by Varcad. I just emerged RPM, and installed the Fedora2 RPM. Everything has worked fine. So I tried a couple more. And Guess what?
It seems as long as the dependancies are correct, they just seem to work. Go figure

I'll second that, and to add to it Opteron systems use NUMA, which have even bigger pipes and quicker access..
Oh, ya.. and my dads car is faster than your dads too....

This is a distro issue not a ISV issue.
this is only the first step of course. The next logical step is to make them six stories tall and... .oh, wait I see a problem forming here....
