Sure,$100 computer sounds great, just bought my first computer for $150 by the way on monday:)
Yes I understand why we need one of those cheap computers but we also need cheap... network connectivity via wireless and maybe some nice cheap Windows XcheaP and that would make the home computer something like a cellphone. Maybe even have an embeded system that gets files remotely of a server so no need for large expensive drives....
Imaging have a $100 Z-series machine:)
Ok Brandon Routh, a bit too young. And also not goofy enough as clark kent. Christopher Reeves really played one of the best Clark Kents that have apperared. Hope that disaster like Smallville doesn'turn up and have their cast memebers flying. No Smallville is a disgrace to Clark Kent Smallville makes Clark Kent look like a farming Playboy.Anyway they should make a Superman Vs. Batman. Or maybe X-Men with Spiderman and the Hulk doing a cameo. Or maybe Batman Vs. Predator with Aliens... Now that is cool. Or even make an Iron Man or a War Machine movie.... but no... you have to do Superman. But Brandon Routh please they just as well should have a Hindi Movie song and dance sequnce in this movie. These "dramatic" movies are too much for me if I want to watch a dramatic movie I would watch Pather Panchali by Satyajit Ray.
I am a big VNC fan:).
At work I use vnc to connect to my development machines and sometimes to my workstatio/laptop from the machine room at times when I eat my cubicle-mates lunch.
But over all RealVnc under windows is more responsive than tight vnc under linux over a ssh encrypted port over a broadband cable modem. VNC with in the LAN is great. Connecting in Linux is not bad the screen refresh is all screwy can be the display dirver or something. Not really concerned. I usually use the command line nad open up multiple shells. Vnc is good if you want to use some gui based program ( e.g. use bit-torent to download stuff because your company network is not so.... willing ). Or do remote administration on a MacOSX box using vnc. This is a good comparison and a good discusion. will give the tightvnc 1.3 and Ultra Vnc a good chance.
I have to find a vnc server that supports view only or shared at server start up. Also I never got vino to work on FC-2 any hints .
PS Yankees just lost it is the end of world as we know it.
Well XM Radio hacking great, I bet it is gonna be a FCC violation like those people who hack Direct TV. Anyway good to see the counter culture at work. By the way this fancy smancy page is gonna die.
Firstly, Let's see 12 processors in a rack. That sounds great, but what happens when the chip blows... or something breaks how easy is it to fix. 58 GFLOPs ( I personally think it should be GFLOPS) . Anyway IBM's BlueGene will make Cray look like a digital watch. With already great performance we are gonna see a lot of changes we do computing.
BlueGene is the future Cray is the clock telling us how far _into_ the future we are. Also another thing thank God ( please substitute ) for a 12-way x86 processor ( man what a waste...). Hopefully this will cause better MPI programs to be written and become more main stream.
Go Red Coats
Well when anti-matter and matter collide they release energy. Matter and energy are supposedly interchangable, all that matter in that ball of anti-matter cannot survive and thus must be turned into energy, and energy of all type will be emitted, so there will be a lot of gamma radiation etc. The worst part of nuclear weapons is the ionizin radiation from beta particles. Alpha particles are really slow and can be defelcted by the skin. But beta particles can go in to you cells and create free radicals that can cause major problems. Imageine a free oxygen atom in your bone marrow, not good if it is near the nucleus. While gamma rays are bad too they don't linger enough and since they are really really powerful they just pass right through you ionising as they go but not as much. I was thinking after 4.5 billion years of the earth being born ( from all the dust and rock ), evolution out of almost pools of mud to us. We will see how the world turns out in the future. I personally think war should be fought the style of online games. Much more fun and lot of people will participate. And very low casualty.
take care y'll

This is research has two paths either great and powerful things or some sort of "nuclear mineing" ( they would use nuclear weapons to do strip mineing. The air force needs to do something better with its time. Anti-matter weapons.
In a couple of years we will see this... "Aircraft carrier vanishes in large explosion because of anti-matter containment field failing". How foolish....
Maybe it is an arm's race against the terrorists who are taking away America's liberty ?

iMac G5 Porn Roundup

· Score: 2, Interesting
I was quite suprised at the Porn heading... and yes it was cruel.
But carrying on looking at the box, it seems very tightly fitted. Looks like a really well thought system. I wish the guy could show some more important images of the system like how well it sucks in air and removes it. But the most amazing thing about the iMac is the price and technology. A nice PPC chip with a Nvidia 5200 board all sounds great. It would be great if Apple made the system such that you could just use it as a media center. It plays DVDs like that, even though a MAC out of sleep mode does not take too long... But the Broadcom ethernet chip is a real bad one. Broadcom runs hotter, they should've got the Intel Pro 1000. They also supposedly run at higher MTUs. But how many people are gonna run these boxes on a gigabit network. But definately a nice thin client is very appreciated. I use my workstation's fans to cool of my sweaty feet.
Over all a great system I give it 4 out of 5. Kind of pricey, and loss of sweaty feet drier:). ( but a G5 with a dual FPU is nice, and that PPC architecture kicks ass. ).
But thin clients are the way to go for the home.
So much easier to move around and easy for that 2 year old to knock around.:)
There is a show in the US called Cops, and it is about police chases. They should make Cops with CEO's getting beat up and tortured by cops. That will be funny. A clip of this episode can be seen in Michael Moore's movie Bowling for Columbine.
Anyway interestingly enough I am happy that some CEO's are showing up in the media. Wait till they start being someone's bitch in prision. I love my barbaris society.:)
Save the environment, please plant a bush in Texas.
If you found it in a cab in NYC, it is yours to command and conquer. From the pictures it looks like the pictures are from some college guy in Amsterdam. He don't give 2 shites about it. Also he's from Texas what do you expect. He won't find it and won't even look for the pictures on the internet until a set of peple who saw it on that webshot and tells the real owner about it.
Also the guy is a mess, he can't even take his crap out of a cab in NYC. What an idiot....
Overall a great website and great pictures.
PS did you notice that most of the pictures had many many caucasian people in them, is that some sort of statement....:)
All this sounds good and Interesting, and Becker did a tremendous ammount of development in this field. But I was just wondering, what about supercomputers like BlueGene/L which have very fast interconnects. Many supercomputers/distributed systems run MPI based programmes and such programmes need a high interprocess commmunication does anyone one know how good these are in a Bewoulf Cluster?
thanks

Star Wars has gone from a good movie with good morals to a cow which can be milked.
But since I am a firm believer that if I buy the Star Wars DVD that George Lucas will get rich and
A> Make enough money to STOP making StarWars sequels and retire to Vanuatu ( or some other offshore banking island ) and vanish from human existence.
B> Understand what he made was so cool that he will again try to make a better set of movies.
Anyway will wait for 2nd had sales on Amazon or some other online place. Also another thing interstingly I bet Joss Whedon's Serenity will definately Kick StarWars, guns with bullets vs. laser guns. People don't die instantly they go through painful Hindi movie like... slipping into a deeper sleep kind of thing... Definately Cooler,
But the lack of Light Sabre's will definately kill the emotional momments.
Seriously I am looking forward to Serenity. I gave up hope on StarWars.
One of the reasons why wi-fi is being banned it is because it creates a lot of hassles on the university network. Understandable, now if you have an access point and it creates a private LAN no problem. There is nothing like having your DHCP server being replaced by a nice little Apple Airport.
Secondly is because Wi-fi will increase the average weight of the college student. We all know that Texas is the heaviest state in America. There are tons of overweight and fat people there. If they have wi-fi they will plop down eating and use their computer. But if they can be stopped via walking and ploping down to use there wi-fi connection then the best thing they can do is just have to walk around to find food and then walk all the way back to the computer. Thus giving these people enough excerise to fight obesity off. I can be totally wrong about this.
But kid's in college should party, experiment with substances and discuss politics and start a revolution. Wi-fi will not help either their weight loss or there intellectual stimulation.
What does an iPod have to do with education? The whole problem with this trend is like the free condoms, shavers and breath mints that people get at college. These are nothing but expensive articles being 'pimped out to the students' who have no idea what they are for and start using them and hopefully get them addictded and while they pay off there school bills they can buy 99cent Apple songs. All this is nice, I would love to have all this. But most of all students should have a better education, access to beer and psycadellics and some good college bands. Everything else is noise; a disturbance, college is an experince don't allow other groups ( financially, morally or religously ) motivated groups to sell your experince away. What happens in a religously oriented college you get 100 free religious/christian/islamic/bhuddist songs....
But maybe we should share the large corporate fees gained from these gimmicks to maybe towards other not so well off universites to just have computers with some software so people can learn how to type or learn programmig...
Students would be better off getting PDA's with wireless...
But why be so philanthropic. Anyway I just wonder what happens to the poor college students who came to college to make a better life for themselves and their family, and they don't attend the more prestigious universities?
These are only my views and I can be wrong, but our lives are empty and we fill it up with music that we buy because we are unable to create anything new.
This is all very interesting and I like the way Perelman has gone about working out this whole genius and fame, and money. I wonder what if movie stars ever found out or the RIAA or the music industry, they might license him. Interestingly there was also a breakthrough in the Riemann Hypothesis, I wonder if anyone has ever heard of Louis de Branges de Bourcia at Purdue and his paper on the Riemann Hypothesis .
The person who posted the news article did not tell use what Poincaré Conjecture is? Well this is slashdot not, mathdot:) { Just Kidding Dawgs, aite } . Anyway Perelman has a very ascetic way about him, maybe he sees beyond the materialsitic, and media oriented consuermism. Anyway interesting it is to see someone who sees beyond himself.
Just because google news bot picked this up don't make it that great of a post. It was known for the last 6 months that Perelman and colleagues had been working on this.

yes I agree, there are always going to be errors, but when there is an error in an encuclopedia it is usually fixed the next year or through a set of books that have additional information. All the information in the world is not always correct. Some of it is correct some of the time. And also it is good that people can add and remove. It is like sharing a document online, so people can read from it. So if you ever make changes and somebody used your wikki entry as a source then they can check back and see what the changes have taken place.
I think there is more to this, I think he is a scape goat for some internal mafia ring. Why else would you keep a low profile and get out 2.5 years? I am telling you this guy couldn't have done it with out his market connections.
Really I didn't know that, but I am gonna go with Nvidia because it works and I have better things to do. I think everybody else should do the same and adopt NVidia and then what will happen is that ATI will understand that about 95% of there Linux desktop market is with NVidia, and then they can get there thumbs out of there asses.... ATI was good when they were not using the r300 processor from IBM. I wish IBM would allow ATI to release specs on there R300 chipsets so people can develop drivers. I think ATI is going in the wrong direction, they should look at Linux users at human beings and try to be nice to them and give them what they want.
