  4. Re:I'm always amazed on Creator of the Gaia Hypothesis Urges Nuclear Power · · Score: 1

IIRC, Chernobyl happened because they were using graphite rods instead of water to cool the reactor core. One of the rods failed, leading to a meltdown. US plants use the ocean to channel in water which keeps the reactor cool.

  5. I'm always amazed on Creator of the Gaia Hypothesis Urges Nuclear Power · · Score: 1

At how those against nuclear power like to cite the Chernobyl accident, as apparently they feel it is proper to equate a plant that was a zillion miles from a water source to the San Onofre plant which is cooled by the Pacific Ocean.

Burning coal in the midwest has caused horrible acid rain in Canada. People really need to rethink how "unclean" nuclear byproducts are.

  8. These hybrids on Hybrid Cars Don't Live Up to Mileage Claims · · Score: 5, Interesting

Have quite a bit less power than their gas-only counterparts (like the hybrid Civic). I've seen people trying to drive these things like they're race cars, and that certainly isn't going to help.

MPG estimates are easy to reach when drive like a responsible person, and according to the cars manual. This is often a bit slower than you are comfortable with, hence the problem. It just happens to be that the rift between gas waste with the two driving styles is quite larger with the hybrid engine.

Drive nicely, you're mileage will be a lot better.

Yes, and in all of his deep insight, he was right.

If you really think about it, you're paying an artist to perform for you. And just like with the albums they release, you're allowed to listen to them as many times as you want.

Being the concerts are very memorable for most people, you should definitely be allowed to record them.

  16. Re:EASIER SETUP! on Groklaw Tries Their Own Linux Usability Study · · Score: 1, Insightful

    I don't use Linux, I use OS X.

You're the second person to just assume that I'm some victim of a frustrated attempt at using Linux. Linux doesn't do what I need to be happy with the computing aspect of my life.

A big part of that is it's learning curve. Your grandma doesn't want to edit text files to set app preferences.

  17. Re:EASIER SETUP! on Groklaw Tries Their Own Linux Usability Study · · Score: 5, Insightful

See, this is exactly the type of thinking that's STOPPING Linux from becoming a popular desktop OS. The old elitist "you're not smart enough to understand it" is absolutely ridiculous.

Wake up Ziviyr, most people aren't computer geniuses.

  18. EASIER SETUP! on Groklaw Tries Their Own Linux Usability Study · · Score: 4, Insightful

Setting up, using, and all other aspects of Linux need to be made easier for the home user (read: children, old people, and those without a lot of computer experience).

Ease of use definitely needs to be made more of a priority if we're going to see Linux succeed as a desktop platform.

    Ah, I see.

it's as much a matter of providing legal defense as monetary re-imbursment for defending yourself against baseless allegations.

This is clever. So now we have a company that is going to both protect Linux from being murdered by a company like SCO, and at the same time turn a profit. Everybody (innocent) wins!

But isn't it said we've come to this in the US, where you can come up with a lawsuit for just about anything inconvenience you can think of, and then waste both the taxpayers money, and that of the company you're attacking.

We need to stop with all of this licensing silliness if you really want to see OSS take off!
