See, the "Terrorist Act" is where they can search you without probable cause and arrest you if they think you look suspicious in the UK.
Then you have the "Patriot Act", that is completely different. That's where they can search you without probable cause and arrest you if they think you look suspicious in the US.
    See? The differences are remarkable.

  7. Re:Typical ignorant stuckup Journalist on One Journalist's Second Life · · Score: 1

Second Life used to cost money. Then they realized they were making an incredible amount from renting land, and not that much, relatively, from subscriptions. So they realized that they could increase their player base, and therefore increase their land rent, by making the game free. No, you could not run Second Life for a grand a month. You could easily run a MUD on a small, private server, but you could neither code nor run a game as complicated, with as good graphics, and with as much content as second life, on your own, for a grand a month.

When I was little, my parents wouldn't let me play any games with blood in them, they wouldn't let me play Magic: the Gathering, and they wouldn't let me play Dungeons & Dragons. I hated their rules, but I still respected them. When I went to friends' houses, I didn't play games that had blood in them, or anything like that.
If a kid breaks your rules, and you know he does, and you're fine with that, then that's a pretty pathetic relationship you have with your kid.
Not to dis' your brother or anything, though. I'm sure he's a great, fine, upstanding citizen. And stuff.

Yes, designing games is a hard and challenging process, and we learn new things from each one we design.

Yeah, if he had the code and servers to do it. There's a reason people charge lots and lots of money to play MMOs. It's because servers cost lots and lots of money. Also, for a game as feature-rich and open-ended as Second Life, there is just no way one man could code that kind of world in a reasonable amount of time. Maybe a MUD, or a MOO, or whatever, but not a graphical Second-Life kind of world. No way, no how.

I don't know anyone who's 'scared' of gaming controllers like they describe. Everyone is willing to try out a controller, even old people. Of course the results are mixed, but as long as you don't use a Gamecube controller, you get used to it pretty fast.
I think their only problem is not giving the player more buttons and sticks. You want these guys to design games that will not only stand up to the modern market, but also attract non/casual gamers, and you're only giving them two buttons to work with? Good plan there, Big N.

Another, more offtopic theory: Our generation games, right (I'm 17)? So most of the non-gamers are dying off, right? So this leaves Nintendo's plan where, exactly, in a few years?
