    As someone who worked with court records esp. bankruptcy records in the late 90's - early 00's be thankful for the PACER of today. I still have nightmares about connecting to the OK City bankruptcy court through a Citrix client to check proof of claims filings. Or using PCAnywhere to connect to Trustee data(shudder).

    The platform the Cadillac CTS is based on was designed for the CTS and is still currently only used/available in Cadillacs. It is NOT another modified version of a Chevy.
    You poor misguided bastard. GM is reusing Saab parts in the CTS or like the CTS V, a reskinned corvette. Now, this is not nearly the abomination that the Kappa platform was.

    WTF? I'm going to have to insert a [citation needed] here with a healthy amount of skepticism.

    Depending on the car vs bike, that may be true. Since braking is all about weight vs contact patch of tires and size of rotors(assuming disc brakes) then this car/cart should stop faster/shorter than a bike also assuming equal sized brake rotors since the car/cart will have four wheels doing the braking instead of two. However, your average chevy tahoe will require more space to stop than a sport bike.

    I think that people who defend non-hybrid cars on Slashdot should have their Geek Card revoked. They're defending a century-old technology that does not have a wide performance range, coupled to a century-old technology that, through a hideously complex set of gears, extends the performance band to tolerable limits.
    Wow, taking your opinion to its logical conclusion, anyone working w/ linux should turn in their geek card. After all it's damn near 40 year old technology. As for you does not have a wide performance range did you mean diesels here, b/c my petrol engine idles at ~600 rpm and readlines at 7000. That's a pretty wide performance range. 6 speed manual transmission isn't that complex.
      Not to mention that the car has a Cd of 0.25 and you can enter it and start it with only a Star-Trek-like device in your pocket. Starships don't have keys!
    Wow, just about every luxury automanufacturer has this it's called comfort access. But hey if you want to glue some nacelles onto your car and call it a starship more power to you. Though I will point out the most ungeeky thing is to be a sanctimonious prick and start excluding others due to a difference of opinion.

    Or(no pun intended) you could use mercury.
    Because of its rarity, gold is one of the most efficiently stored and universally recognized forms of wealth you can have.
    Less rarity, more chemical stability and difficulty in counterfeiting.

    Where is the "-1 misguided" button? China cares for it's trade but has consistently voted against international intervention in sovereign countries in the UN Security Council. They don't like outsiders telling them what to do, and they refuse to tell other countries how to run their internal affairs to the point of ignoring serious human rights abuses.
    I believe it's right next to the -1 misinformed button. Oh, don't take my word for it just ask Vietnam or Tibet how isolationist China can be.

    People respond to their pocketbooks. In this case, it's easy to align people's incentives with the goals we want to achieve: Make gas expensive.
    We did that but due to this wonderful thing called elasticty of demand, we doubled the price of gas and consumption did not go down linearly with the rise in costs. Not to mention making fuel expensive tends to make everything else expensive as well.

    42 mpg x 20 mile commute each day is a lot more fuel consumptive than 20 mpg x occasional grocery trip.
    Newsflash we all can't live in the cities. End of line.

    How so? You could hypothetically add a battery replacement center to existing gas stations, much like many have added car washes to bring in new customers.
    Chicken and egg problem, battery replacement centers make sense once there is a certain level of demand for battery replacement, and for the individual consumer a battery replacement car only makes sense when there are enough stations to suit your driving needs. Prior to this critical mass a bunch of people will be paying the early adopter penalty.
