After 17 years of farming fields with ponds and sand knolls I bought one of those systems. Pulling that thing around with my John Deere watching the blade cut down high spots and then drop the sand in holes was the most fun you could have in a cab by yourself. That was in 1987, now you can get one that uses GPS for position and height. A word of warning, if the spinney thing stops, don't look into the lens to just as it decides to power back up.
The only response can be, "Well, duh". If I am hiring some one I want a person I feel comfortable with. I have hired both black, and white people of both sexes. Even if the hiring manager will not be working with the new hire how the new hire will effect his (or her) coworkers has to be considered. Oh, yeah, only hire people who are not racist sexist and that wont matter, just remember, people lie.
Can you explain why I wasted $90 for a ticket to see ZZ Top? How will I know they are not lip syncing to a CD? Can't see their lips so they don't even need to pretend.
Most visits are because of the American drug war. I have to see my physician every two months because my insomnia medication is soooo abusable. Can't have addicts sleeping all day. My wife has a prescription for an ADD medication that helps keep her awake. She has to take a drug test to make sure she is actually using it, can't have those addicts being productive now can we. Imagine a cocktail of these, probably something like dividing by zero.
I recently had a meal at a popular buffet in Orland. I did notice the plates were much smaller than in years past. That didn't stop to couple at the table next to me from making a third trip and then leavening their plates full of food when they left. People who have multi terabyte drives full of downloaded movies they never watch are the same way.
It's always about money. It is possible to grow your own food but getting money for other needs and a few luxuries is difficult. Slavery was used because free people were too expensive to hire. I worked at a produce packing facility and many workers there spoke fondly about working the harvest season up the East coast. At this moment my daughter's sister in law and her husband are in Delaware doing migrant work. It is hard on children, their six year old son is being driving back to Florida with other family to register for school this week.
So I can expect to see you and your family out in the field picking up potatoes next harvest season? And don't forget pulling all those weeds because herbicides are banned. I have done those jobs and I didn't find either one particularly interesting. Now churning through the field pulling a four row harvester with a 250 horsepower John Deere is fun and cruising along listening to Rush Limbaugh while guiding a 60 ft wide sprayer is pure joy.
I worked with a guy who as a recent high school graduate (mid seventy's) was recruited by the DoD to work on ballistic missile systems. He was a southern redneck hot rodder who looked like a Mafioso enforcer. After showing too much intuition about certain systems he was let go. The man was a mechanical genius and a wiz with a soldering station (he brought his own to work).
His family lived in and managed a small trailer park and he was not a stellar student, how did they find him? I was offered (but declined) a spot in the Navy's nuclear power school but I was already in the Navy and had taken many tests.
Sometimes the manufacture is trying to devolep a new drug with less side effects than those currently avalable. My wife participated in a study of an anti ADD drug. She didn't get any better so either it was ineffective or she was getting the placebo. For participating in the study she was given prescription to an already approved drug.
For her this drug is almost perfect. She can stick to her diet and has lost 50 lbs. She no longer spaces out, has more energy and can study for hours at a time, (she is preparing to enter nursing school). Maybe many people can't use this drug or the patent is expiring. My wife is 47 and until this trial no doctor would help her so we were helped anyway.
It is good for the oil and gas industry, and those who work in them. My nephew with his new EE degree just started with a pipeline company in San Antonio, $90000 a year with a housing allowance.
I grew up in a farming area in the 1950's. Before welfare blacks and poor whites picked the produce. They were the migrants, working South to North. After harvesting apples and potatoes in Maine and Vermont they went back to south Florida for the winter. After welfare they didn't need to do that so the growers who had depended on them made agreements with work crew leaders to bring in illegals.
If you want to control the economy and make people do right you should read up on the tactics employed by those who were successful at it. People like Lenin, Mao, Pol Pot. But unlike them, I'm sure you would be a benevolent dictator and everyone's lives (those who still had theirs) would be so much better.
After a few minutes thought I can see how our legislature freed us from the tyranny of the railroad barons and allowed free transportation of goods and people. One man with a truck can deliver a twenty ton load almost anywhere in the nation in less than a week. Imaging the logistics for shipping half a boxcar away from the main line.
Railroads have a place. In the nineteenth century towns and farms by necessity grew near the tracks but the our system of interstates and state highways has allowed the population to spread out and still have all our necessitates delivered to our door. Of course I have my own loading dock on my farm, I may be prejudice. Growing a perishable crop, no way could I depend on a monolithic rail system to safely delivery my produce. One call to a truck broker and I can have ten trucks in my lot at five AM willing to go anywhere in the county and guarantee safe delivery.
For myself I am building props for an event ninety miles away. I can rent a truck and delivery them myself in two hours. Hide in a subway if you want, I'll take the open road.
Many things are not economic if they are not subsidized in some way. Our country has it's own society. What helps one part of society helps us all (yes, socialism). My community helps me; libraries, law enforcement and open emergency rooms are just a few things provided my my community ( COMMUNISM !!!). My truckload of Omaha beef is subsidized by vegetarians who pay road taxes. Their load of tofu is subsidized by me, it equalized out.
Dude, I live in a 1500 sq ft mobile home in north Florida and before my last central AC died some months I used 3000kwhs. Now with small room units and extra insulation in my white painted roof I still use 1800. Best I do in the cool months is 1300. Five people in the house and some of them love long, hot showers.
How old are you? I assure you, My dad's new 1964 Ford Galaxy 500 was not a crap car. It cost $2500. I was in the Navy in the 1970's. A shipmate who had visited Japan told me Japanese made high end tape decks and stereo equipment cost more in Tokyo than in San Francisco. The Japanese people didn't mind because they wanted to make sure their countrymen's jobs were secure.
Let's say in 1970 the US had put a tariff on foreign cars. Imports already cost more the domestic cars but by making imports more expensive the moderatly well off would have bought from Detroit because a Ford or Dodge would have been more affordable. If you want to call increased sales a subsidy OK but all those $trillions sent to Japan and now Korea would have done a lot of good in UAW members pockets. Then we have most other American workers subsidized because of HB-1 visas limit the number of tech workers that are allowed in (imported).
Why do most people love cheap (or higher perceived quality) imported goods but balk at having the foreign workers themselves imported.
Actually, yes, during the severe electrical storm yesterday my lights only flickered a couple of times. All the tree trimming and lighting arrestors Florida Power and Light has installed since the 05 hurricanes has helped a lot. Even with these cost and the retiring of one of their nuclear plants my cost per kWh has only gone up a few percent to $.10. Improving service without raising cost does generate good will. Next time they need a rate increase they wont have much getting one.
You have to sure only citizens are eligible. Super sealed borders will be necessary because who wants to look at all those sad faced immigrants who aren't getting free stuff. Many jobs will only be fill by coercion, cleaning septic tanks is not very challenging, I do know that. Now putting them in an area with a high water table is very challenging. Digging the hole big enough and getting the tank dropped in before hole fills with water and the sides start collapsing is intense.
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means". I always thought a subsidy was money paid to people for something most taxpayers don't benefit from. Food is subsidized, you don't eat? Roads are subsidized, you don't use a car, ride a bus, or buy anything transported by truck?
Some things may not benefit you directly but if it helps your country it helps you. Socialism is great until you start paying taxes, then all the sudden you turn into a Libertarian.
Actually stopping climate change means going back to an 1800's lifestyle for 99% of the worlds population. The few who live that now desperately want out and the rest of aren't going back unless we have to.
Even people who sincerely believe their lifestyle is killing the planet only make token changes. Only a world wide authoritarian government with firing squads for those who resist has any chance of working. Better make a lot of pop corn, it's going to be quite a show.

Well, hopefully, allowing more H-1B workers will spur our schools into providing better educations for our children.

A bible scholar, on /. !
If you have a swarthy complexion and are youthful looking just hop a train in Mexico up to the border and walk in.

And no one remembers the episode of the Big Bang Theory where the guys did just that and let hackers control their lights and remote control cars?
