The question the court is facing is whether you can copyright an idea, a conjecture
The judge thought of an idea to solve his/her dilemma. Using that idea it was clear that ideas and conjectures can be copyrighted. Unfortunately, that idea had been copyrighted and the judge could not use it.
I think the concept copyright of an idea for a book is as ridiculous(if not more).
From the aricle "looking like a small, circular patch of light with a bluish-white hue and an almost star-like center".
No tail:( !! Probably pointing away form us. I personally prefer comets with long tails, they look nice:) This will just look like some nebula. Anyway, thats not gonna dissuade me from trying to spot it (aagh will have to wake up before sunrise).
Hinduism is against it (but Buddhism supports it, unfortunately many lump the two together so some people incorrectly say Hinduism supports it)
Thats plain BS. I am neither a Buddhist nor a Hindu but have read a liitle bit (by that I mean a lot:) ) on religions and neither Hinduism nor Buddhism says anything about organ donations. I have some friends who happen to be devout Hindus and I know that at least two of them are on the eye donor list. So either substantiate you claim (by pointing out where Buddhism supports organ donorship and some eveidence on Hinduism opposing it).
Talk to the bank manager, let him know that you whole heartedly support security audits. Then ridicule him for trusting Fortify, a closed source tool, for sucah an important audit. Enlighten him about the possible conspiraces involving Fortify, Nigerian Scammers, Dick Cheny ,... you get the idea. Then offer to audit the Fortify source code for free. Start a new company in China (they dont have freedom of speech, but neither do have strong copyright protection) and start selling Fortify+ (or FortifyLight depending on your marketing strategy). You will be a multi millionaire soon. Dont stop, claim that the original Fortify stole your source code and sue them (dont care if its obviously untrue, remember SCO ?). And then finally when you have a few billion dollar in you bank account GPL the code under GPL 3 and post the news on slashdot.
"It integrates MS Exchange/Outlook, MS Messenger and MS Phone in an amazing way."
Thats sadly true, I dont think it interoperates with any other products. (maybe it does, with Lotus notes or smthng else, but I dont know)
And no, I don't want voice mail in my email. People store too much crap in it already. Neither do I, so I set it to just email me just the missed call reminders, which turned out to be quite useful.
Yep, right up to the time where I skip a meeting because I'm waiting for an important phone call -- and my phone just never rings because I forgot to cancel the appointment in Outlook
Well, if you dont like it switch off the feature, or let it set your phone to a visual ring or low ring. Or forward the call to the IM client. My point was, its much more than an IM client, it does a lot of things seamlessly (and almost always, exactly like I would want it to)
The office communicator is one of the few products that I really like. I used a beta for ~3 months and (provided you have the infrastructure in place) it kicks ass. It integrates email, IM and phone in an amazing way (by email I mean Outlook , no you cant use pine:( ). Eg. If the outlook calendar shows that I have a meeting in my office , it will set the IM status to ('Busy, in a meeting') and switch off the phone ringer (and email me any voice messages). Then when I see a missed call, I just click on that person and select call, which switches on the phone speaker and dials out the number. Impressive , eh ?
or maybe they will come back as a worm in the next life This sounds like somthing taken straight out of Dune's Orange catholic (or something similar, I'm not sure)church scriptures:)
For example, is a piece of software that "phones home" for ANY reason considered spyware? Is this an oblique reference to the latest version of ITunes ? (or the Firfox+GoogleToolbar combo which phones home upon sucessful installation?)
1. Optimizing the FreeBSD IP and TCP Stack (if you are using it as a server)
2. Sound subsystem improvements (if you like to listen to songs once a while on your server , use it as a dedicated server cum audio only media center )
There arent too many other significant changes (except maybe the IPv6 , but who uses that )
As they say , prevention is the best cure. Repartition the HD (if you are paranoid abt rootkits) and use linux or make sure you dont install random stuff if u choose Windows (and stay away from IE)
If you have a local university with a reputed CS department, thats the way to go. Post a message on the school linux mailing list or something, get a couple of good junior (or senior) students as interns for a year , ask for references from their profs and its a win win situation. If by next year you expand the company then get a full time person otherwise just get new students. That way you can get a well qualified and competant person who is ready to work part time and doesnt expect a hefty salary.
Remember that kid in Singapore that got caned in the '90s for spitting on the street?
No. I do remeber the the kid that got caned for vandalizing cars (frightfully expensive in Singapore) and stealing road signs (just plain dangerous). Now I dont support caning or other corporal punishments , but wanted to get the facts straight. I been to Singapore a couple of times and spitting in Singapore is illegal , but noone is going to cane u for that (u just have to pay up 500$ which I think is fair enough).
Well, long time ago, slashdot did not have the option of auto adding the domain name for a link. So it WAS very easy to accidently click like the gp claims
. The interface is very bad, with paid and free videos mixed together. While free videos can be viewed in Flash on any platform, their paid DRM'ed videos require a Windows program, and the page tells you the available formats only after you purchase it.
The interface isnt bad, its just simple (which is good in my books). There are links which let you view only the free/paid content or both. The search works pretty well. You could call the interface minimalitic but what else did you expect from Google ? The DRM (working on Win only) is something they should work on (or lets hope eliminate all together:) )
Google is already working on a massive and global computing grid. Eventually, says Mr Saffo, "they're trying to build the machine that will pass the Turing test"
So they they can eventually use the machine to make bots that talk with the AOL messenger users (remember Google is commited to 'integrate' better with AIM users). eg.
(Turing bot) Want a free AOL CD / DVD/ BlyRay DVD ?
(AIM user noob) No, Thanks
(Turing bot) Want a free AOL CD / DVD/ BlyRay DVD ?
(AIM user noob) I said no
(Turing bot) I guess you really want that CD , its been dispatched to you, enjoy!
Netflix should offer something like 'get a used DVD of your choice' as the settlement. I'll love that, no crappy upgrades which automatically charge the credit card if I forget to cancel.
Its highly unlikely that they will release a product by 1 Feb (a a resonable price , say $500). The price of high res OLED displays (required for each key!) is simple too expensive even now. Maybe we will see that in 2007. Notice that their site does not have a clear release date (which it would to hype up the launch).
Linux and BSD and MacOS and Solaris and all the other non-Windows based customers probably represent a single-digit percentage of their visitors. Say 10%.
Detetcting a mirror image versus an exact clone is very very easy. Notice (or assume) that the robot has green leds on the right and red leds on the left. The mirror image will have the opposite. So as long as it is asymmetical (even slightly) its very trivial to differntiate between a mirror image and a clone.

The solution is simple; stay up until sunrise!
:) (I actually do that whenver I have an obscenely early flight)
Thats exactly what I'll do this Friday

* Closed source is proven to be far more secure in the real world than source that has been picked through by numerous people.
:) lighten up.
OK, this is flamebait,
Well the gp wasnt flamebait but funny
Better idea. Ruin Fortify.

Whew, another success story for the books.

Re:It's a HOAX!
I thought it was supposed to be funny (with the stereo system and all:) ) Maybe I have a weird sense of humor.

Optimus keyboard may have a real release date
Its highly unlikely that they will release a product by 1 Feb (a a resonable price , say $500). The price of high res OLED displays (required for each key!) is simple too expensive even now. The problem is that it is illega to use libdvdcss in many countries.

Isnt 10 like 2 single digits
So you got one of those OS X toasters too !!
