You paranoid fucksticks... I think laser painting should be punished severely. As a pilot, it scares me that some asshat, whether with terrorist intent or just for fun, might blind me during approach, or anyone else for that matter. Many airports are near built-up areas, meaning a crash could create many civilian fatalities (like 9-11) not to mention everyone on board the airplane. Why on earth shouldn't this laser-painting fuckwit be put in jail? I mean, he had a *commercial* laser...

That has the added bonus of being able to be played over SSH from any Internet connection with Mindterm Java SSH client. Addiction galore, for the weak minded at least (I play it once every few days, but no more).
Well, that really should only concern you if you have users on your computer that you don't fully trust. Internet Explorer, on the other hand, is used by 90% of the population, and can be exploited by almost any website. Which is worse, I wonder?
Troll? How is this a troll? At worst, I would say it's a poor joke. Mind you, I laughed. So, to the mods of/., take the broomstick out of your rectum and laugh at funny jokes.
I like Free software. My main system in Linux, and I run Windows for games. However, I am not going to give myself an ulcer thinking about DRM and Trusted Computing and what it might mean. I can always keep the computers I have, which will run Linux, and if I must use Windows, I will be sad, but I will probably do it anyway. At some point in every industry, either the government or the industry itself has restricted it in some way. People get pissed about it at the time, but forget it and live with the status quo (think about driver licensing, and so forth). At this point, with the large spread of virally-infected boxen, trusted computing is looking like a promising solution for companies involved. Sure, it would be better to switch to linux, but most people would prefer their Windows to be virus-free and crippled than have to learn a new system. They won't care about pissing some software geeks off, as they have the gaming geeks already firmly on MS's side. So, if and when it happens, it happens. I, for one, will be sad for a moment, and then get over it.
A 20GB iPod is about the same price as this rumored computer... if the iPod went down to CAN$250 or so, I might buy one... but it's too expensive right now.
I mean, the guy could have caused the death of many people, caused any amount of destruction (if it crashed in a built up area), did it to a search helicopter who was looking for him, and did it all with a commercial grade laser. Either he's a sadist, terrorist, or complete moron. I think it's best that he be locked up, for stupidity if nothing else.
I'd say this would be more accurately put as Open Source != Linux. Linux is open source, but open source is not linux. It's like those stupid logic questions on IQ tests... it seems like the/. editors haven't passed.
I'll admit that I am intrigued. This problem does suffer the flaw that, if it is played like normal, the player doesn't really need to know what is said, and will therefore probably ignore it. I believe the whole point of immersion is to make the person *need* to know it, and to provide an environment in which they can do so. If they can make it work, I'll pay for it. I'm going to wait and see how this develops.
The only people who don't use google are those who haven't seen its full power. Take, for example, my father. He used any search engine, but usually MSN. Then one day he came to me, saying "What is this song called?" referring to a song he knew a few words to. I said calmly, "Go to google, and type the lyrics in quotation marks, and you will find the answer." It worked exactly the way I had said, and now he only uses google. And looks down at MSN.
I'm not surprised. I think it was Cirrus that made it mainstream by adding it as an option instead of an afterthought. Granted, the idea was fairly obvious after the parachute had become a proven technology.
The major developer of this technology, Cirrus, has been doing so for at least a year (unsure of dates), and there have been many successful deployments which have saved airframes and, possibly, lives. This isn't newsworthy at this point, although it might be interesting to those who haven't heard about it.
Fixed? You don't get the intent of my message. Trust me, it's far better for Wikipedia if stoned high school kids are not allowed to vandalize things on a random whim. Also, I seem to recall the person who banned the school had a username and location strikingly similar to your own. Congratulations, and keep up the good work!
Because Free software is like war... Okay, you people take it way too fucking far. To compare Free vs. Proprietary software to World War II is offensive. In one, we're dealing with people's lives and war crimes, in the other we're dealing with what people have on their computers. To compare the two is assinine.
I respect him, and he has done great things for Free Software, but the truth is that if people can't use their video card or wifi ethernet with linux or any other Free operating system, they just won't use it at all. I think it is more important that people accept *some* free software, than having to accept all or nothing.
but I find RMS a bit militantly Free. I mean, I don't like the idea of having to use binary drives (for nvidia graphics cards, for example), but I would still prefer to have binary drivers than no 3d support at all. I think RMS should take the stance "I support only Free software, but users should have the choice". The fact is that some companies will never open up their driver source code, so users shouldn't be punished for it.
but I like sex much, much more. But yeah, if you don't ever offer sex, then, yeah, he'll probably choose HL2 or Halo 2 over having a "conversation", if he knows he won't get anything of benefit at the end.
He says, for the whole thing to work, humans have to work together and help one another. Now, I like Wikipedia, and I think it works, but not because people are "helping" as much as they can. It works because there are lots of people with big egos that want to show off their knowledge, and moderators that aren't afraid to ban an entire subnet (any computers from the Calgary Board of Education, where I go to school, are prohibited for making changes; take two guesses why, the first one doesn't count). It still works, but the assumption that it is because people are "helpful" to each other is slightly flawed. I'm sure there are some, but as with most other facets of life, I imagine they are vastly overshadowed.

With filters, or what?
And the fact that you had a box to open, that's good. I have absolutely nothing against the people who buy Photoshop legally and use it over the GIMP. It is a better piece of software. $700 better? That's debatable, but still, I don't care. It's the people who pirate it and bitch about the GIMP that piss me off.

Very much like that, in fact. Whoops.

It's more an issue of compatibility with PSDs. I don't know why people use layer groups, but some people obviously do, so GIMP should support it.
