Not really. Marathon had no limitations on the number of weapons you could carry. (Similar to Doom/Quake/damn near any FPS) In Halo, shields recharge automatically if you don't take a hit for a certain time frame. In marathon they only recharged at specific console. Also grenades were attached to a specific weapon in Marathon, not thrown.
That said, Marathon set the bar for storytelling in a FPS.
Your points are valid. Eve has crappy PvE content, I'll be the first to agree to that. But no other game has the potential for complex player interaction Eve does.
That said, it can be difficult to find a corp that's doing something interesting sometimes. This is one of the pitfalls of a game that relies on players to make a brunt of the content. Find the right one however, and it's a totally different game.
Eve does what it does very well, which is to provide a complex 'sandbox' for the players to interact. If that's not what you're looking for, then you'll find the game to be very very dry.
Hate to break it to you, but you didn't get into it. Eve doesn't spoon-feed you content. I'm sorry if you expected that. Eve is VERY focused on player interaction, not PvE content. I highly encourage anyone new to Eve to find a corporation to work with. It completely changes the game.
The collection is only part of the quest to open the gates. Someone also has to get neutral rep with 'Brood of Nozdormu'. This makes a quest chain available to get an item needed to open the gates.
If noone has gotten the item yet, the gates won't open.
man hate to wake Eve fans up to reality, but Eve is a seriously "hardcore" game for the minority.
And this is a bad thing? Yeah, Eve will never have 5 million subs. So what? Why is a game considered a failure if it isn't #1 in subscriptions?
Eve caters to a niche population that is generally ignored by other MMO's. They have steadily growing subscription numbers even after 2+ years, critical acclaim, and are doing well enough financially to keep expanding. That's pretty damn decent for CCP's first attempt at a game. Quite a few games can't claim the same success.
There is a large contingent of MMO players who feel that the game doesn't start until max level. In WoW, this means everything Pre-Molten Core (40 man raid instance) is just filler before the real game.
And then they complain about lack of content.
Considering how Nintendo turns more profits than Sony, (Not Sony games division, Sony in it's entirety) well, lets just say that I sure wouldn't mind being 'bitch-slapped' like that.:)
When that starts to happen I start mentioning the dreaded 'OEM' and they suddenly start paying attention. (I used to work ISK tech support)
ME: Click on the START button
USER: I don't see it
ME: It should be in the bottom left of the screen, in the gray bar
USER: It's not there.
ME: Well then, it looks like you have some problems with the Operating System. I'm going to have to recommend you call your computer manufacturer.
USER: (Suddenly paying attention) Wait! I found it!
First rule of tech support: NEVER ask someone to tell you what they see on the screen, because they will. All of it. No matter how hard you try to stop them.
Sounds like we're on the same page here. I have no problem with people who want to solo in an MMO. I have a problem with those who expect EVERY game to have whatever element they want.
You see the same thing happen with FPS's. Look at how people complained about the weak multiplayer in Doom 3, a decidedly single player game. Then you see people complain about the single player in Battlefield 2, which is focused on multiplayer.

I wish Apple would make a service called halfTunes that sold songs at 50 or 25 or free for bands that are looking for exposure, not profits.
And why do you think bands are looking for exposure? Exposure means more customers. More customers means more profits.
There are some serious issues with the economy in Eve, but most of those are player-created and not game flaws. The only 'flaw' with the game is that it allows so much freedom, that the players can really bork things up.
My opinion is that you should find a game that fits your needs, instead of expecting all games to conform to those needs. (Not saying this to you specifically, just in general)
No one is making you play the game. Seriously, if you don't have the time to play an MMO, don't play an MMO. There's no reason to expect the Developers to change a game that OTHERS might enjoy just because you don't. If Guild Wars fills your needs better, play that.
Games should not appeal to everyone. It's okay for games to be different, and to appeal to different people. The variety is interesting.
I've been able to relocate my base of operations to Undercity because of the linked auction houses, and couldn't be happier with that fact. (Being able to use a mount inside Undercity is just icing on the cake)
And we all make mistakes. You just got my hopes up is all.;)

Yeah, I personally haven't gotten lucky either. My roommate got two blues in a row though. Bastard.

Wow, 5 days? And I thought our travel was a time sink... :P

You get better than greens. A guildie got a Krol Blade out of one of those damn boxes.

Yes/No questions are your best friend.
We're talking about a graphics card. What the hell else do you expect it to do?

Umm, raids are capped at 40. Still a lot of people, but there's no reason to exaggerate.

So when you have a career you enjoy, you are unable to write off business expenses?
In Soviet Russia, cliches recycle you.
