I make it a strong personal policy to completely disbeleive anything with Laura Didio's name associated with it. She's long been a special friend of Grocklaw
The problem is that such inventiveness and scholarly pursuits largely stopped/stagnated as Muslim countries and culture turned inward.
And what lessons should the west learn from this I wonder?
Perhaps , having given the world so much in the past, what they give now is a lesson in what happens when you let religious fundamentalists make political decisions. South Dacota anyone?
Unless it's your new foreign employer. I got a job in Italy with all removal expenses paid for by my new Italian empoyer. It only lasted a couple of years before I returned to the UK but was a major formative experience.
Sometimes, and at least once in every life, you should completely uproot yourself and move on. Better still if you can go to a different country. If you can get your employer to pay for it then that's even better still.
And yes I do have some ties to the old home town. Every now and again I go back and visit my father (mom died a few years back) and I'm glad I got to really see some more of this world. Vacations aren't enough. You have to go out there and live.
Those of my advanced years will remember, shortly after the introduction of stereo, the introduction of quad surround sound. Yes folks, buy two more speakers to play records (no CDs back then) that weren't available. It tanked. When the costs exceed the benefits/availability these things don't work.
And now they want me to persuade my wife that we need two more speakers in the living room. It's a non runner.
In late 2001, I sent a mail to all of my family members telling them that I would only help them with their PC if they were running Windows XP, so my grandmother ran out and bought an XP machine.
So M$ even forces close family to upgrade! Win2K wasn't that out of date in late 2001.
That doesn't detract one iota from my point. Sweden has two major auto manufacturers, whomever they're owned by. If Swedish law insists on no fossil fuels then Saab/Volvo will be able to respond. It's not as if it's Latvia, for example, which would hve difficulties.
The Swedish automobile industry must be much larger and more advanced than I had ever dreamed, to pull this off.
Well Saab and Volvo aren't exactly minnows. Saab in particular has a long standing reputation for original thingking - remember the three cylinder two stroke?. Volvo are one of the biggest truck manufacturers in Europe.
It may be harsh but employees working on military networks should be aware that no unauthorised software should be loaded in any form because you just don't know what payload it may carry. This is a good illustration to employees who think that 'security doesn't realy matter, anyway all I was doing was playing my latest CD'
Apart from mentioning the magic/. buzzword 'Google' - from TFA
Websites from FBI.gov, CNN.com, Time.com, Ebay, Yahoo, Apple computer, Microsoft, Zdnet, Wired, and Newsbytes have all had one form or another of XSS bugs.
so Google getting one is not exactly a major ocurrence. TFA also mentions
The author would like to commend the Google Security Team for their=20
cooperation and communication regarding this vulnerability.
So we can expect the hole to be repaired real soon now (and probaly quicker than our friends from Seattle!)
OK I don't travel on many other lines so I haven't really got a right to compare. I'll accept your comment that they're way ahead of all the other operators in my area. I just wish that train travel in the North West wasn't so bad. My family live in the South East and I've spent far, far too much time on the M6/M1
It wasn't Network Rail (or whatever) that simply removed the carrage with my prebooked seat one Sunday. Suddenly there's two or three carrage worth of travelers looking for seats. As I had a small child in tow plus a large suitcase this was not funny. If I prebook a seat I expect it to exist. And if you think this is exceptional ask anyone who lives in the North West or Glasgow. My sister, a regular rail traveller, uses all the UK rail networks and says that she has to add one hour 'Virgin time' whenever she visits the NW.
We appologise for the delay in landing. This was caused by engineering works. Please be advised that this suttle will no longer be arriving in New Mexico but will be re-routed via Siberia. Suitable bus transport will be provided (eventually)
The price of a new Gillette Mach III razor is only slightly more than the cost of the razor blades enclosed - but they want you to keep buying Gillette blades.
Practically any cheap ink-jet printer - they get you with the cartridges.
Free mobile phone - just sign this contract.
As someone else said - 'Here - have this smack/coke/crack for free'
Er... maybe I did. Friday afternoon post pub finger trouble!

Does anyone else notice that those with extreme reacist views never have the moral courage to put their names to them.

AOL have several good reasons to introduce the 'E-mail' tax and very few not to. The reasons for are
- Increased profits
- The can say to 'mom and pop' users, their biggest user base, that they're trying to do something about spam.
- Increased profits
The reasons against are- They might piss off some people they don't care about
- Er....
I don't see this as the most difficult decision they're going to make.when they start shooting at (or spying on) you.
Looks to me as if the Times has gotten under a few peoples skin - and not just Maureen O'Dowd for so accurately satarising Bush.

Do you work for Virgin's PR dept or something?

Thanks for this. I live and learn. I'd mod you 'informative' if I had the points.
