    I think you're missing the point. The point is that export manufacturing is extremely effective at creating large numbers of jobs for the poor. This is why China's manufacturing-based growth is having a much wider impact on its society than India's service-based growth.

    I think it's a reasonable thing to expect in a service-oriented business like an airport or a coffee shop. The customer will of course pay for it indirectly via other expenses, but it seems petty for business to try to make wifi access into a direct profit source. In many cases the expenses for the business owner will be minimal, so it's wrong for them to try to charge exhorbitant rates for something of minor expense if that's not their central business.

    Charging for wireless access is like charging a customer for a glass of water - it's a petty attempt to extort money from the customer for something that incurs little expense to the establishment. In the end, it will cost the business much more in loss of good will then it will gain in revenue.

    FreeMarket is another open source prediction market that was recently released. It's written in PHP and uses MySQL (because you can do anything with php and mysql). It's geared towards somewhat smaller markets.

    Interest in prediction markets usually increases in years after major elections (elections are the killer app for prediction markets). There is a good directory of prediction market software (free and otherwise) here.

    "Zombies" implies that lycos was using some sort of underhanded means of taking control of the users PC or mac, which doesn't seem accurate to me as the software seems to be 100% transparent. I personally welcome this as I think we need all the innovative thinking in the battle vs spam that we can get.

    Although the cynic in me wonders if this is just a viral marketing scam for lycos to generate a nice shiny blue aura ala google.

    We think it would be extremely anti-consumer for Apple to stop the music by intentionally breaking compatibility with Harmony. In the event that they do, we have a comprehensive plan in place, but it's not appropriate for me to go into details now.

    Who wants to bet that the comprehensive plan involves selling songs for 25 cents a pop until they go out of business...

    No, while they are water resistant, so they:re okay in the rain, but they are certainly not waterproof. You would have a bunch of broken segways. It might even be dangerous.

    Since the surface of the sun is about 5800K on a good day, I doubt the G5s could possibly get that hot, fans or no fans.

    I use capslock all the time for running in FPS games. It's pretty useful in all sorts of games for things that you have to toggle on and off, like the wings-stay-on/wings-fall-off switch in flight simulators, I'd imagine.
