Hey I'm guilty as charged for time wasted here. (although more of it should be used proof-reading;-))
I thought your humour was good, much the same image came to mind. Certainly no offence was taken for the novel correction. It's one of Favourite songs. It comes to mind anytime there is discussion of record companies. Been itching for and chance to use it as a quote.
I see the error of my ways oh noble coyote. Given that it is probably quickier to google the lyrics to cut and pasta, than to try and remember them correct spelling and all.

Yes true fans don't ripe off the band. Which is why true fans support CDBaby, iTunes, and the little independant Record store so the next gen of Artists can be free of the crude we know today.
Some Day down the track we will have the market driven by the culture not a culture driven by marketing like we have now.
That day will come, the record compaines will disappear. The fans don't need them anymore, the artists don't need them anymore.
The only ones left are the techinical support people but i'm sure they will learn how to break free soon enough.
So do you think Steve and the iPod team read this. It sounds like the business plan to iTunes, iPod and the music store. right down to the line about only artists who's ablums are mostly a couple of singles and filler would be affraid of per track sales.
Sure Apple (computer) can't a music label, really they are just acting as a content delivery agent.
I'm sure they are not the only ones who read this at some stage and just got it.
Remember this is an experiment involving Video player in a Music player.
It's a music player first, and a popular one involving a thing called a scroll wheel. If the experiment proves successful and a market develops for more content and more demand for player that's more video less music, then you will see your full screen Video iPod, maybe a bigger screen still, say postcard sized so they can squeeze a battery better then 2 hours into it.
Say 6 months at the earliest, any longer than 12 months an the chance of happening start to look slim.
After all looked what happened with that experiment they called iPod.
I love how people like to make it a war.it's not really The world is a big place why can't we all just get along.
Beta vs VHS. Yes beta lost the home video market (the war), but the product found a market in Professional video handling.
Mac vs. Windows. Yes Mac is a minor player (lost the war) but as a product has found a market and is making viable profit.
Linux vs Windows. Yes is Linux is slow to break the back of Monoploy if it can at all (the war is on going), but has found a few niches marking viable profit.
I'm sure there are many more. Other CAD vs. AutoCAD. yes other CAD (insert Vectorworks/Solidworks/ArchiCad/Microstation/....) maybe a minor player but is making viable profit increasing user base and has cornered a market segment.
Creative Zen vs iPod. Yes Zen has been religated to minor player but have they managed to capture a market to make a viable profit? Most reports say no.
Does Van Eck Phreaking really work? or is just a cool sounding idea that Sci-Fi writer love to play with?
You wouldn't have worry about resolution, after all it's just a matter of timing. The coils of the antena might make a pretty cool looking wall hanging behind the TV.
Monoculture=Bad That's not to say having Sub-cultures is bad. Having small groups of Consistent culture in an enviroment of diverse cultures isn't going to offer a greater threat level. Indeed it maybe useful, allowing the sub-cultures to develop strong Imune systems, as they will be tried and tested, and will develop in ways that may make them incompable with threats from other sub-cultures.
So relating that to a computer perspective. Apple build Mac's and control the hardware and OS, then build in other defenses like firewall, and constant threat assement and patching. This seems alot like the building of strong imune system and while they remain a strong sub-culture and not overrun all to become a mono-culture, then this seems more like a "good thing"tm.
Wireless Syncing does have some advantages over a wired version.
Yes you need power to charge the battery but with many people using iPods in rooms other than the one with computer, while connected to a set of powered speakers, the power issue is covered anywhere in the house. The missing link in these situations updating the information, not just songs which change as you buy new music, things like Podcasts, contact info, calender events, are changing often.
Being able to sync without direct connection to the computer would be really useful. Maybe the new universal dock hinted at by the nano will have a Firewire over IP option including a wireless option. I'm sure Third parties making speakers for the pod would love to pick up on such an option.
As a designer i'd call it a design tool, ok not the best design tool but good enough that i can play with option then hand something I'm happy with to the programmer in format that he finds useful.
The same with interface builder.
Which seems to be what Microsoft is aiming at with the tools they are talking about.
Compatible Enviroments for Designer and Developers.
Maybe They Took "Redmond start your photocopiers"
just a little too seriously.
But Apple doesn't have to... Well not directly anyway, after all they have other people build their machines for them now. Indeed their current manufacturing partners have probably discussed such things with Apple in the past.
Meaning they can place their order for twice as many as current sales, and have someone else on board to sell the excess as generic Windows Boxs. That way better volumn discounts all round for them, fewer supply issues and faster refresh rates can be had, as they can maintain a much higher supply chain.
"Batteries..., my iPod has a battery i plug in...." Lets face it find a way to include the fuel line as part of a USB or Firewire cable and the vast majority of mp3 player users would still be as clueless to what's inside the white box as they are today.
How about one as part of an aircraft carrier group, after once you get the holstile region and everything hits the fan.
THe group is flying mission arround the clock, but has a maxiumun number it can carry at a given time. That must mean a lot of spare space to turn arround planes if you had them.
Load up the blimp with supplies and spares fighters that could land it at near by airfield. fighter could fly in to carrier for mission staging. Fly back to airfield if it gets to crowded.
Considering the advancement it technology for weather monitoring. I'm sure the guys flying these will have alot more information at their fingertips.
It's not like the wieght of carrying their own weather radar would be such an issue when you can carry 500 ton, and well laptop with Sat connection isn't adding much here either, hey even carry a spare. After all 7 days flighting is going to get pretty boring lots of time to see if you show up on Google Earth.
I'm not convinced that the phone with music player will kill independent flash music players, for the simple reason.
You use flash music player in places you don't want a phone, i.e. the gym, jogging, reading a book on sunny day in the park and other solitary endeavorers. Places where radio and telephones are not wanted, the sorts of places we go to get away from such distractions.
Convergence is only going to work where you have compatibility uses. Phone/ Candid Camera combo is a good one, for the reason both are about opportunity when out-n-about, about recording and sharing Information.
Where you have that capatibility then yes size is king, from that point you are dealing with the choice of carrying bulk vs. function.
Where not as strongly capatible then you can leave one at home or in the bag and reduce bulk when not needed to be at hand.
What you need is a solar beach umbrella. That way you can orientate it the right way, which means that it also produces the biggest shadow as well. Keeping the laptop itself cool and power efficient.
Maybe make out of that nano-tube sheeting,as an aerial to a WiMax system in to it as well.
The fabric could be open weave like the black woollen tents popular with nomadic peoples of the world, as the fabric traps the heat and uses it to create a pleasant air movement.
Power, shade and communications all in one easily portable accessory.
I doudt not. Once you go looking for it it's consummer information not adversiting.
As every body whos worked in a pub knows from responsible service training it not illegal to gamble or drink, it's just illegal to promote gambling ot drinking.
Yo've list of religions is missing Catholism, after all the Vatican has dismissed "intelligent design" as being poor religion and bad science.

The thought for the moment as i read your reply.
"Wasting time is an important part of living."
Then Apple then just rebrands them as Automator Actions or Core Image Plug-ins.

Just don't get me started on the Cola Wars.
Considering Shakespear was writing Political Satire of his day, written so the masses could laugh at the bumbling of the leaders of the day.
If alive today it's more likely that he'd be writing for shows like South Park or The Simpsons than pro-wrestling.

I think they started them much earlier than that.
With the C/PM clone thing.
1982ish they just changed them to have Apple material on the glass.
