The SpaceX Iridium 4 Launch was a full thrust launch to get the Iridium satellites in the necessary orbit. When done the 1st stage would not have enough fuel to make a landing so they didn't attempt it. See the official mission overview:
Official mission overview SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket will deliver 10 satellites to low-Earth orbit for Iridium. SpaceX is targeting launch of Iridium-4 from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The instantaneous launch window is at 5:27 p.m. PST on Friday, December 22...
Falcon 9’s first stage for the Iridium-4 mission previously supported the Iridium-2 mission from SLC-4E in June 2017. SpaceX will not attempt to recover Falcon 9’s first stage after launch.
Seriously, has anyone bothered monitoring packets from an Echo or Google Home using their router or Wireshark? If these devices ARE uploading voice data when you're not actually using it then it's not difficult to figure out. I monitored mine at home for a month straight, and the only spikes in OUTBOUND traffic coincided with the precise times I asked Alexa for something.
As a person with mobility issues, I have 3 Echo Dots and now 2 Google Home Mini's. They control more than 12 switches and a number of other sensors throughout the house making my life much easier.
I too monitored the traffic from the echo dot when I first got it and like the @Guyle above, came to the same conclusion.
My cell phone captures much more information than these devices do.
Seriously... How is Tesla sending hundreds of its Powerwall battery systems Puerto Rico.. just a marketing ploy? Tesla started sending hundreds of its standalone power banks, and some have already arrived while more are en route.
A physical product that works well in the field.
The grid is down and it will take a long time get a lot the Puerto Rico areas back on a grid that currently doesn't exist now. The powerwall is recharged by solar.
What good is a cell phone when you need power now and can't even charge a cell phone. And you need power for other necessities more than a Cell phone where they tell you help is not available now.
There's a real estate agent in Florida who's been happily giving out my email address to clients, lawyers, banks etc for a decade now. I've had very personal information emailed to me, bank loan applications etc.
Actually just updated today as the newest firmware was release this week. 1.28.0000 -3.4-140 K26ARM USB AIO-64K, While there is an option (and has been) to turn on statistics, I have never had it turned on.
Soon when you download or reinstall something like Pinterest, you won't have to wonder what your password is if you've already installed Facebook. The supported app will prompt you to log in via the social network.
WRONG!
Why would I want to use Facebook as my security login. I don't use or trust them. Very poor security.
Actually, the first part I bought was an expansion interface. I had access to a model 1 at the store and access to floppy drives, but the expansion interfaces would fly out the door and having a floppy drive was of no use without one.
So I first bought an expansion interface so that I could keep it at the store, then when I could afford it, I bought the model one, a floppy drive and took it home.
It's a real issue because stores can buy Wi-Fi equipment that logs smartphones' MAC addresses, so that shoppers are recognized by their handheld when they next walk in, or walk into affiliate shop with the same creepy system present.
Hmmm, not an issue. I don't use WiFi when I am away from known secure locations. Not an issue.
Seriously, they know I bought one of the devices. Why do I need to take my time to package the thing and send it back. Just send me a replacement. The SN of the unit is registered and you have to provide that to get the replacement.
But they want me to print out a shipping label, package the old defective DO NOT USE one back.
Not being smug at all. I've had my medical (hospital) information, insurance (2 different insurance companies), 3 credit card companies hacked over the period of the last 2 years and each time, they always say the same thing. Security is our top priority, but then you find out it really wasn't. They were doing unsecure processes which is how they got hacked, had been warned about their practices etc...
I have no choice if I use these services (other than to not get medical, insurance and use a credit card), and no control over their lack of security.
In this case, it looks like the hack didn't actually pull any data, but how many times has the scope of the hack been under reported or not reported at all for a long time only to find out that really is not what happened.
FTC is getting them for false advertising, has nothing to do with the EULA. This is the federal government suing not the consumer.
The issue is they are saying their products are secure when they have many vulnerability outstanding that should be easy to fix and they have not. So they are not safe to use.
Other than it being announced after the Election, there doesn't seem to be anything political in the announcement.
Sales are down on vehicles made at those two plant and they are cutting the Third Shift at both plants. Nothing about moving production elsewhere or even discontinuing the two other shifts at both plants.
The added on Anonymously section to the/. article is where the politics are injected with a reference to Trump and his proposed tariffs on products made outside of the US by US mgs.. which this story is not about.
Most of my linux servers don't have users on them so no big deal. I'll just make note not to do what the causes the bug which I don't normally do anyway until it is patched.
Compared to the Solaris telnet bug years ago which gave anyone using it without an account remotely instant root access. That was a big deal.
This is just a bug that needs to be patched like how many other bugs that come out on a regular basis that you can pretty much only do if you are already on the box..
I get these all the time and I give them bad reviews every time.
Imagine going to the grocery store and buying a weeks worth of groceries and after a couple days vendors and mfg's whom you never had any contact with for the groceries you just bought start sending you email to see how the product was, if it worked and to give the (always) a 5 star rating.
I get enough email as it is, I don't need to be spammed by the companies of the products I buy.
If a product stands out, I normally leave a product review, if it is something cheap and common many times not. I give more positive reviews than negative ones since if there is something wrong with the product I will have already contact the "vendor" or Amazon about it anyway.
Everything is BREAKING NEWS even if it happened yesterday or the day before. Reporting on incidents before there are any real known facts, having EXPERTS come on and speculate on what MIGHT have happened or not without anything to really base an opinion on yet.
Not really news... entertainment for many, boring and shut off for me.
Was covered in the Q&A section of the presentation. The ships need to come back to earth in each case, so there would be lots of space for anyone to return if they wanted to.
Not odd at all. It was planned that way.

Now would be a great time to convert to something more energy efficient.
That is way out of scope of providing power.

Works better than stock firmware and dealt with vulnerabilities that the router had with stock firmware long before Netgear caught up.

The company's CEO announced on YouTube Saturday, adding that "Keeping our client's data secure has always been our top priority."
If your companies top priority is to keep data secure, they how/why did you get hacked. They always say that, but clearly that is not the Top Priority

Hmmm... my LG built Nexus 5X doesn't have a removable battery, uses a USB-C connector, no removable MicroSD card.
99% of them are robo calls... nobody on the other end. I just hang up, and block the number.
I use a carrier unlocked Nexus on my Verizon account... No bloat there, none allowed.
Looked at getting a Samsung S7 to replace my Samsung S6 when I was looking but the Verizon price was ridiculous and the Nexus was easier to deal with.
