A workstation is more than the OS that is loaded on it. Just replace Windows with Linux and you have a box that pretty much doesn't do anything, Just like if you loaded Windows on a new workstation.
It is the applications that you use on the OS where most of what you do takes place.

Even after a long time of searching and trying various applications you are still nowhere close to where you were before you made that jump. You use the right tool for the job. I have a primary workstation with Win7, it has hundreds of applications I use daily for my own business, personal use, and interacting with others. It is backed up via 3 different backup solutions to ensure I don't lose my info and is the central location for most of my info.
If you look at my servers, you won't find a winbox among them. All of them are either Linux (debian), AIX a smattering of Solaris and I still have some FreeBSD boxes for specific tasks. I don't use them for a workstation, most of them are non-gui based setup, command line.
To protect user's systems from malware attacks, ASUS motherboards implement the Microsoft Secure Boot feature by default. This feature performs a legal loader check to boot into the OS. As Windows 7 does not support Secure Boot (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824987.aspx), with the update of KB3133977, the system might detect inconsistent OS loader keys, resulting in boot failure.
Apparenltly the Secure Boot feature to protect from malware by ASUS didn't work.
If an app is built for just that phone then you have a point, but they aren't. They are built for many phones, different versions of Android and as such there is a constant update process to fix issues with the app working on one thing or the next. What phone are you using that makes it so you can barely use it when it is getting an update? Perhaps you have too many apps?
- Items listed as having Prime often do not arrive for 5-6 business days. This is typical for larger items. It annoys me that Amazon lists tham as prime (to me this means item will arrive 2-3 business days), and their practice of having fine print about extra handling time for some prime items is abrasive. Just don't list it as Prime if it won't be shipped for 3-4 days!

Seriously? Non-savvy consumers get what they get when they don't research what they are buying before hitting the buy button. There are always trade offs to things you buy and where you buy them. For the most part Amazon is convenience of getting the item fast without having to go out and deal with the crowds, heat etc, but are not always the best price... Costco doesn't always have the best deals either and Walmart... many times doesn't have the quality items to even start with.

I have. I never do updates until the following weekend when I have time to deal with an issue. I also keep my workstation online for days on end with work which I can pick up remotely where ever I happen to be. A reboot is not a desired option in the middle of a work week when I have no time to deal with a mess up.
It's okay for radio to play it but not stream it? Stupid and ignorant. I already have everything he has done. for a long time. I will listen to it how I want to listen to it when I want to listen to it. On my phone, tablet, radio, 8-track tape, via my cat... he sounds good by the way...
Nothing more annoying than having a business domain which has hidden their contacts behind a privacy by proxy which never gets responded to to deal with a technical issue related to their domain (email for example).
I find it really ironic that Google, a company so used to being the new hotness upstart company, is so willfully ignoring usage patterns of a significant minority comprising "the youth" and people on the wrong side of the internet divide, and much of the third world, and anyone without a data plan outside of wifi range.

As for ignoring the wrong side of the Internet device and much of the third world, that isn't their business, they are an Internet business and almost everything they do is based on that. If you don't have access to the Internet, most of their stuff doesn't work.
As for a calendar entry, unless it is brand new, you will have sync'd the calendar entry and unless you CHOSE to silence the scheduled time alert, you will still get alerted even if you have no WiFi or Internet access. There are also a lot more options to dealing with a calendar entry than a simple SMS message. You can control how soon you get notified, repeat notifications, options on how to get notifications etc..
SMS, is just text message you can stop unless you want to black list the number and you can't choose when or how much time in advance you want that notification.
As for your kid's french tutor, sounds like they need someone to help them make a better process. A calendar entry for your kid's scheduled appointment, shouldn't include other peoples schedules in it.

StartSSL sucks. Renewing a cert they said I had to have a Level 2 Cert instead because I had a PayPal link on the site.
Switched everything over to NameCheap SSL PositiveSSL which cost money but don't play games, are very quick for approvals etc...

Just what you need more stuff to go wrong especially if you never plan on using it. A lean OS makes more sense than an over bloated one.
