After you reach a certain level of anger towards something, your concern about getting in trouble lessens in comparison to your need to express that anger or frustration. As in, the anger building up in a person can become to much to deal with and has to be externalized in some way or another - sometimes that can be more important to a person than "staying out of trouble".
What I'm saying is, maybe he was too pissed off to really be all that worried about getting in trouble. Not to mention he probably didn't expect someone to report his icon to the school officials.;)
Dude, my friends and I drew pictures of people getting killed or the school getting blown up or whatever, all the time.. Before AND after the Columbine "massacre"... it's pretty trivial and also super common for kids who are extremely frustrated with the school system, sick of being bullied or pushed around, and/or have a crappy social life etc.
Frankly, what's the big deal? The teacher is probably annoying as hell. Some teachers are painfully condescending and patronizing. I know I had a really hard time dealing with that crap all throughout high school. It was even worse because I had parents that treated me very well, and treated me like a fellow human being while they raised me, so my first reaction to teachers' condescention was anger, because it felt like a direct insult to me.
Anyway, before you go calling this kid a dumbass or whatever, consider that not everyone handles things the same way you do.
I think he's more concerned about the company having a nice database of every single parking meter purchase with various relevant data logged that any employee of the company could potentially call up at any moment. Load up the caller ID data, do a reverse phone lookup on whitepages.com and get the person's address, etc. etc.
Not to mention there being some definite record in some company's database of where you were between 7pm and 9pm on Sunday night, or whatever... Hmm, how long before the police get all buddy-buddy with this company to conveniently obtain this data?
I'm sure the company could take it even further by having automated cameras aimed at each parking spot to take a snaphot of the vehicle (and potentially the owner) when the transaction is made.... I mean, implementing this completely "Big Brother" technology would be 100% trivial. You could do it with parts from your local Radio Shack or computer store...

I just posted basically the exact same thing on another forum. I still play Quake 1 LAN games at my place when we have family gatherings.. it's still such a freakin excellent game.. ! In fact it's basically a required piece of software for every machine I own. Always one of the first things that gets installed, regardless of platform...;) Yes, it is on my computer at work!;)
It's pretty funny to see that mentioned because just the other night I was thinking about the "while" function as I've never really thought of this before but I realized you could just put a "1" in the parentheses and it would return true indefinitely and you could get some pretty fun results, perfect for prank-related endeavours and so on. Then I thought, "oh, like all those texts from the 90s [that I didn't understand]"...;)
dude, Gigabyte has had some of the most overclockable motherboards for years. I remember overclocking my 133mhz pentium to run at 166 (I tried 200 but that was pushing it) and it ran stable, no problem..
"The thumbdrives were obtained unethically and you cannot hold OTHERS ethically responsible for any potential damage."
Sure you can.. whether the USB memory sticks were purchased, stolen or gifts from someone, the people who stashed the memory sticks are still fully liable for any laws broken. Consider that they placed the memory sticks there for the sole purpose of having the scripts run and transmit peoples' passwords/personal info etc. if, as was *fully expected*, people would grab the memory sticks and plug them into their PCs.
It's like the whole deal where if someone breaks into your house but they fall and get injured they can sue you - just because someone was breaking the law (stealing your stuff) doesn't make it okay for you to cause injury to him/her (whether intentional or not).
It would fucking rule if there was a huge school shooting where the culprit(s) played only America's Army at home, had posters of it everywhere, wore America's Army merchandise-clothing, listened to the music from the game, etc. etc.
Then again I don't know why I say that, because then the media would just automatically revert to the next scapegoat which would be that the culprit(s) had serious mental issues etc. and it had nothing to do with the fact that he/she/they played America's Army all day.
That would actually be a huge intellectual leap though, so maybe we really would get the satisfaction of all the people with the "place-blame-and-sweep-the-issue-under-the-rug" complex going insane and exploding spontaneously...

Develop a highly successful and highly violent game, and release it online for free.
I'd love to see the response to that. What are they going to do, make it illegal for websites to host games that would receive a rating of "Mature" in the USA?

This has been the achilles heel of Mac gaming for somewhere around 11 or 12 years now... if I had some miniscule amount of currency for every time I heard someone express the same sentiment, well, I'd be doing something a lot more interesting right now with all my vast amounts of money and the like.. !!;)
