I was sorry to see Feingold go. He was also a good guy when it came to helping people with the USCIS (immigration). He certainly helped my wife and I with the lack of progress on our case.
Blocking texts just means they block it at he telco. I have blocked texts but I still will receive one from Verizon if I change my account password on their site. But I don't get charged for it. That also goes for the texts that they send your data usage info in, no charge for them.
So to answer your question, I am sure that you would still receive emergency broadcast system text messages. As one of the posters below mentioned it will probably be another mandatory fee on your bill though.:(
I've seen plenty of Japanese people walking around with drinks. Especially oocha bottles. This was in the Kansai region so perhaps its a regional thing?
Also, I have not been in a cheap electronics store yet. Most of the prices are far higher then in the US, if you can even get the item in the US that is. The variety is awesome though.:)
Firefox can get them. I had a user get hit with this about a month ago. Luckily I had gone over fake anti-virus with them during in-service so they knew what they were looking at. The called me because even if the quit Firefox the next time they ran it the fake av came up again. Clearing the cache and re-setting the home page was the fix.
Not looking to cause a flame war but the answer is a Mac. The security on it makes sense and most of this malware just won't run (because its for Windows), and the stuff that could can't run by itself. You actually would have to install it and enter your password for it to work.
As someone who has switched their parents to a mac I can tell you that its much easier to support as well. And they can call apple support and get helped through lots of issues.
For the trolls: *Please note, I have indicated that macs are good for this purpose, I didn't say that it was the be all end all better then anything else solution. Above all l am not suggesting that you stop using whatever you are using.
I disagree. And if you knew how to use ZENworks correctly you would find that its a great product. And for a school it comes at a great price (very much discounted) if you use the SLA. Also eDir is much friendlier to work with then AD and it far more compatible with other software that requires LDAP to function. AD's version of LDAP access required specially tweaked Kerberos configs since MS doesn't follow standards. I will agree thought that Netware is a bit long in the tooth but SLES 10 and OES 2 are good products and make for a good replacement. Now Novell just needs to get the last of their products moved over so that I no longer need a solitary Netware server for NSM (supposedly v. 3 will run on SLES), and a few others.
To go though customs and immigration perhaps? He was in a foreign country heading for another country. He had to go through customs and immigration so they knew he was leaving and could process that in their visitors database. To do that he needed to be in the public terminal I am sure, so there is a reason for the security. It might be different if he was merely flying to another airport within the same country.
According to the the US Consulate in Japan, the US does allow dual citizenship. Not sure if there are restrictions on country or not though. Japan by the way doesn't allow dual citizenship (of adults).
I work in a school and even though ALL of our staff insist they have to use Word none of them use any of its more advanced features. Honestly, wordpad or even notepad would accomplish everything they do on a daily basis. They come with windows anyway and you can open their files with pretty much any word processing software (especially true for notepad's plain text files).
This goes doubly for any business education teacher I have known, save one.:(
They are pricey but what you want are a couple of Polycom VSX 5000 or similar units. Maybe you can find some on ebay or something. They are nice because you don't need to be technical to run them and they come with an easy to use remote control. You can even control the other units camera direction and zoom. The quality of both the audio and video are very good but, and this goes for all of your solutions, depends on the reliability and quality of your internet connection. You just need a TV or Monitor and an Ethernet connection for the unit. If you can find a couple older models on ebay it will be your best solution.
I love the tissues, wish they did that here. Super handy.:)
I would love to know why we can't have vending machines that server both hot and cold beverages and will take a 10,000 yen (~$100) bill and give you back dollars instead of just coins.
The only problem with the Apple EFI (or maybe its a hardware vendor issue?) is that you have no ability to set hardware settings without booting into an OS first. This is an issue when working with RAID cards, NIC settings and PXE, other controller cards (SCSI, SATA, etc). Perhaps this will be addressed in UEFI though.
If this was in the US and was a public K-12 and you didn't at least filter Porn and Child Porn then you were in violation of CIPA. There would have been consequences including but not limited to loosing E-RATE funding, possibly federal and state funding, lawsuits, possibly having the state take over the school, etc. If this was a private school you would have lost some of your funding. Not sure if a proxy qualifies as a filter as, even though your logged which isn't a requirement, does not block those two mandatory categories.
The reasons for blocking other things are ad-ware/malware/spyware/viruses(virii?), cyber bullying, porn being posted on non-porn sites (forums, blogs, other social media), child predators, law suits because of over protective parents (or parents looking to make a quick buck off of the school), the list goes on and on.
I have to wonder how she handled it though. My dad had a hand gun and I remember him letting me shoot it when I was 9 or 10 and the thing what very heavy. I can't imagine a Wii controller is that heavy. That is the only hand gun I have ever held so I don't know if they are all that heavy but I would assume just about any hand gun would be heavier then a Wii controller. I agree with you that a three year old shouldn't have been playing shooting games anyway.
That sounds like a good idea for every politician who is pushing for more monitoring whether it be via camera, internet access logs, warrant-less wiretaps, etc.
Thanks for the tips and I am a member at TDI Club but I'm not real active yet. I read through the maintenance section but thats all I've had time for so far. We only got the car in October. So far we are loving it.
I work in IT as do many here. There are a number of reasons this could have happened that have nothing to do with incompetence of the IT department. As for training it can be difficult to find time and or money to train employees, and many don't pay attention anyway. I would hesitate to suggest firing a bunch of people without knowing the details first. If no one gave that person proper training then it really isn't their fault. If they were trained and ignored the training then it is. Was that person even in the IT dept? Maybe they were just a normal office worker and they have a simple way to upload requested documents (CMS type of system). Maybe the administration didn't want to spend the money on training or didn't have money for training. I'm not saying that no one should be held responsible, I'm just saying that you need to know the whole story before saying who should be fired, if anyone.
I've been thinking the same thing for a long time. FAT really does need to be replaced on removable media with something that is better (larger partition sizes, handles large files better, doesn't fragment). EXT2 or 3 would be good options. I can't believe that MacOS X doesn't have native EXT2/3 support though. And the drivers people have created for it are not the best, though I applaud the attempts.
The fuel mileage is too good. It needs to come down before the oil lobbyists will let it exist. We have a little VW Golf TDI (diesel) and it gets 42 MPG average (based on my own observations, more high way then city) and I'm not sure that I would ever want to buy another gas vehicle again. It is noisier but its a 2002 and I am sure they have been quieted down since then.

Sadly that doesn't stop people from throwing things in the rivers. :(
Everything from drink bottles/cans to TVs and couches. Its really quite sad. You will see this in the more rural areas outside of the cities.

So yes, it can still happen unfortunately.

Verizon has one too. They claim the GPS is for the 911 service routing.

You can also use something like DenyHosts. It seems to work pretty well for blocking ssh hacking attempts. :)
