I'm glad no harm came to the crew, but its good that an occurrence of this sort happened without injuring anyone.
Maybe now they will start to develop smarter technology to help prevent disasters such as this in space.
Logically speaking... wouldn't this just be similar to Microsoft, for example, building a computer and saying you can only use Windows Vista on this machine?
If I purchase a piece of equipment, it becomes mine. If I were to throw my iPhone in the trash, would anyone care? No. If I were to modify my purchased piece of equipment would anyone care? Apparently so... Just as when I purchase a computer I can load any operating system and use any internet service I choose, the same should go for an iPhone, which is another piece of equipment that I can purchase. If one were to hack to the phone, I can see where that would void any warranty, however, how can someone distinguish with laws what you can and cannot do with something you purchased and own? Similar to hacking an Xbox to run emulated software, I paid for it. I can hack it, or I can set it on fire, either way it's mine and I can do what I want with it.
Eventually our star, the sun, will exceed it's life and reach the fifth stage of it's aging process. Red Giant is the name, and I believe it was estimated that the sun would expand out to somewhere near Jupiter, hence, engulfing the Earth.
What are our plans for this?
Not to mention Earth is slowly spinning into the sun, so either way a race far down the timeline is doomed and I doubt we'll have a backup plan for that since as soon as the sun collapses we'll get sucked into a blackhole (and possible rip a dimension line sending us back to day one of Earth and the process starts all over, it could happen)
Either way, I hope for the best.
I'm not trying to be negative, especially towards China... However, I would never accept a security concept from any government that filters and censors their country's internet. Seems like an oxymoron to me.
Linux has been available for download for many years, as well as FreeBSD! Better yet, when Vista is finished they'll put a hefty price tag on it... Linux and BSD will still be free, to download.
Seems like a no-brainer to me.
However, there is no practical use. I'd never incorporate this in any electric devices in my house.
1. It's too fragile.
2. It's way too expensive.
3. It's easier to grab a pack of batteries from Wal-Mart.
4. I'd probably use the last two bandaids to make the device, then end up cutting myself.
Won't this be a losing battle? This will be a cat and mouse fight... I guess they better sue everyone who uses the internet then, last time I checked the internet didn't conform to patent laws... otherwise everytime I wanted to make a direct connection to lets say... my FTP server... I'm breakings grounds for a lawsuit.
What's next... will Microsoft try and patent the double-click? Oh, wait....
Everyone can speculate that such events would cause life to die. I always wondered if during impact the force wouldn't shift organisms and other forms of life around causing the creation of new life. Of course, I wouldn't want a chunk of rock, metal and ice landing in my backyard in hopes of creating new forms of life.
Oh sure... this makes sense... why not penalize the idiots who leave their networks unsecure? That's like leaving your car door open and the keys in the glove compartment but the guy who steals the car gets the book thrown at him and the courts pity the "poor guy" who's car was stolen because he's an IDIOT. US government is simply retarded sometimes.
... that you have a good text message plan, because personally I don't see the benefit on searching via my cell phone just to be charged $.10 for information. Especially since the text message has to be 160 characters or shorter. I'll get 100 replies and only 3 of them may be relevant costing me more than it would be to just drive to a public terminal. But hey... Who's keeping count?:)
But I am NOT a teacher. You took it wrong. I was a student. Watching my fellow students who would memorize the material but couldn't do any of it just made me sick. And to say "just because you have a certification doesn't mean you don't jack about real-world applications" is only backing up what I previously stated.;)
Just like most certification exams... Just because you can do it on paper, doesn't mean jack when it comes to "real-world" applications. Another student in my class passed his CCNA, but you should've seen him trying to configure the 2500. It was a joke!
Experience in the best teacher, I'd like to see more "hands on" testing.
We can clone secret t-rex weapons and release them on fueding countries to settle wars!...
Or we could just open a theme park, go visit, and get killed.
Just remember that he can't see you if you don't move.
ISPs should help their clients with securing their networks by selling routers or firewalls to their customers. That's like selling a gun to someone that doesn't know how to operate the safety trigger...
Just don't navigate this kernel into any icebergs.

Its nice to see the US fixing a nuclear facility instead of passing around stuxnet.
Today: Opening nano by talking to your computer. Tomorrow: Hiding in the mountains from terminators.
I suppose its better than a flying spaghetti monster...

Lets just hope they don't dig too deep and find an ancient temple infested with aliens.

The morning news believes there was terrorist activity involved and apparently Bush is getting in the middle of things... fantastic...
At least they didn't get planes flown into their skyscrapers. I think they are making too big of a deal about it.
