"Goddamn them all, I was told we sail the seas for american gold"? All things considered might be true, what's more valuable than information if you have the tools to use it/btw, that's one of my favorite songs
Policies like stardocks gain customers too, I saw that post a while back and it's what convinced me to actually go *buy* the game my friends were raving about instead of just borrowing a copy or downloading it. I support companies that dont treat their customer base like crap, and I'll happily buy a game if it's priced well and doesnt make me jump through hoops to get it (which is why I own a few ambrosia games and such too).
well, you've got to admit, that'd be an interesting sport... Vampire Gymnastics: the balance beam is surrounded by stakes... come to think of it, the stakes would probably make it more interesting either way, talk about bad blood from losers though...:-p
On the other hand though, how long do you really think it would before there were mirrors of the "movers and shakers" in the third world as they thrive? There's *always* inequality, the evils you rant against are not simple products of the western world, bear that in mind.
One of my great uncles has been significantly involved in that 30years in child leukemia (Edwin Forman). He and his fellow researchers, knowing what they've done, is probably a large part of why I do research in biology right now, the headway that can be made when people do the research is astounding.
While you're right, to people reading this, on the MP just make sure you use ram with proper heatsinks (like from otherworld), otherwise you're gonna bet instability and parity errors. (I have an 8-core mac pro, just replaced a quad).
I'm in NYC, dropped latency rather impressively from 96ms to 36ms, dropped hops from 16 to 13, all depends on where you live and what networks your traffic is going over
I do wonder what would keep insurance companies from simply playing population odds instead of individual odds. Base the rates on geographic and demographic statistics on a large scale, play the odds that way. Everyone's premiums would prolly go up, but the insurance companies wouldnt be out of business...
I (and many other people) have said it before. "Beta" has become a different meaning than it should (this partially, but not entirely, google's fault). Many people these days expect a beta to be fully functioning and just needing polishing and last-minute bug fixes - i.e. what *should* be called a release candidate. It's why in a lot of stuff I work on now I keep calling things alpha well into what should be called the beta stage, it keeps people from expecting an RC. I wish I didnt have to, but perception of the word "beta" has changed.
From what I can glean from the article flag fen did take the precaution of storing the documents properly, but that the fire was too much. It seems there *were* backups, but by bad luck the storage place of the backups was compromised at just the wrong time, and the backups had been moved "home" before a new place had been found. Problematic? Sure. But the article doesn't mention *why* they didn't have another place, so I'm left to wonder about budget and such. I can give them the benefit of the doubt, and you won't, and we can argue about it all day and neither of us would be closer to the truth on that score, so... moving on...
It doesn't seem clear btw, from the article, that the documents on *seahenge* were among those destroyed, it specifically mentions the documents on the primary preservation work done in-situ at flag fen only.
The issue of whether the locals were making an informed decision in wanting to keep the "henge" where it was seems to be a bit in question, as in the attitude of "it survived so long, itll keep surviving" without any real understanding of the forces at work. While I'll admit EH does seem to be a bit heavy-handed, they are charged, as far as I can tell, with protecting *England's* heritage, not the feelings of the specific locals that happen to live near the site and want the tourism dollars.
I don't have the book you cite, so I don't know how the excavation was done in terms of documentation and marking, but I'll take the time to look it up in nature later in the uni library when I head out to get some of my own research done tonight.
Lastly, I picked the first couple hits that were legit I got off google, I wasn't doing a research project so I didn't exactly scour with an absolute fine-tooth comb, hence the asking for links.
We remember Seahenge, where the site was destroyed and then the notes kept secret (so when a fire destroyed the warehouse they were in, the data was lost forever)
Links? All I can find is that English Heritage moved the site, under controversy (mostly, it seems, by modern "druids" who have no connection to whatever religion or culture built the site, and no idea of it's original purpose), to be preserved instead of allowing the sea to destroy it. It was studied, and the findings were published in Nature. It's going to be open to the public, preservation work now done, this month in Lynn Museum, near the original site.
So, do you have any proof to this or any other claim, or are you just trolling?
I have one, and a number of old model ms, it doesnt have the same feel unfortunately. Still a nice keyboard, and it definitely gets used, but I so much prefer the 20-year old keyboards. Next time I need a new KB for another machine I'll spend the time to find another M.
::sigh:: Why can't we have politicians like the West Wing's in real life? Can we get the WW writers or something to collectively run for office? That'd be awesome:_p (only half kidding here, hell, give me democrat like sheen's char or a republican like alda's and I'd vote for 'em)
Myabe Nintendo's not going for that market. MS and Sony have huge reasons to want to be the center of your media hub. Nintendo is happily raking in money being the company you buy the reasonably cheap, hella fun game system you drag over to your friends house to get drunk and play Brawl. As long as Nintendo keeps making fun, awesome game systems they don't need to worry about competing for the heart of the living room, they just want your gaming. The market seems to be backing up their bet on that, and they've been around *alot* longer than their competitors, they are very very good at placing their bets in the gaming arena, I damn well wouldn't so easily dismiss Nintendo

Just to nitpick, the jewish bible refers to more than just the 5 books of the torah, it refers to the tanakh which also includes Nevi'im and Ketuvim.
