I own all 3 last gen systems. Xbox, PS2, and GC. The Xbox was the last one I bought. I bought the PS2 on launch day, and played one PS1 game in it. I don't know that I buy that backwards compatiblity stuff. It is nice, but I own a next-gen console, I want next gen titles. My plan, at the moment, is to pick up a 360, and then a Wii. Eventually, I will probably get a PS3.
It seems that most games are going to be multi-platform. I think owning one, will not be as big of a deal... unless you like Nintendo stuff. First party Nintendo products are generally top-notch.
The SNES fell to the side, compared to the Genesis, for a while... then Sega really screwed up with the 32x, and some of their other add-ons. There wasn't like a 4 to 1 difference, between the SNES and the Genisis. Not to mention, the N64 had a few really bad technical issues... like a 32 meg card, and the fact that the titles cost $10 more than a CD. Nintendo 64 had several big blunders. The blunders that the PS3 have had, I don't consider as major... except maybe price, but I still think that consumers will still buy it in VERY high numbers, despite price.
Nope, because I am actually going after monthly data, that has been this way, since the Xbox launched. There were a lot of good arguments brought up. But, the facts are, the PS2 soundly kicked the Xbox's butt.

People want Playstations. That is it. Look at the sales number difference between the Ps2, and the Xbox. The Xbox is superior to the PS2 in every way, but it still sells FAR less than the PS2. People buy brands, and I think that is far more true today, than it was in the past. The PS3 could still be screwed up, but I don't ever want to underestimate the stupidity of the average consumer.
Holy crap! I forgot the runes! Yea, those were a big piece, too. I remember playing a mod, that had a ton of runes in it. Rune of wierdness was awesome. IT would shift your view, and made it very difficult to play.:)
Jeeze, I have to agree with this! Beyond Good and Evil, Battle Zone, Heretic 2, Tribes... all great games, hailed with much critcal acclaim, and faild miserablly. I hear Psychonauts and Sacrafice are the same. (I did not play those 2). A good review, in NO way means good sales. A bad review, in no means bad sales.
A lower than expected or higher than expected review from a major game site, can generate hundreds of posts on Evil Avatar, or Gamespy, or bluesnews. I think that the need for reviews are not as great as they used to be, before the internet. I am sure that a lot of people get an idea of what a game is about, in previews. The secret to reading reviews, is to find a reviewer that likes the same games you do.:-)
One of the problems where I work, is not cables that are not properly built, but cables that degrade over time. For the first 6 months, all the cables were fine. After 6 months to a year, they started having problems. Lo and behold, the cables would just quit working. When studying for the A+ (Needed to finally get it for a job that just cared about that cert), I was surprised when I read a piece saying that if you mix the metals of the connectors (gold to nickle, I believe) they start corroding, and you start seeing problems about 6months down the road.
So, I like the EA - Burnout series. the billboards have ads on them. It is done in good taste, and really ads(HA!) to the game... Anyhow, I also have Swat 4, where they have downloadable content. There was something REALLY bizzare about walking around a RAVE, with posters advertising William Shatner on the History channel!!! And, not like 1 or two posters, we are talking about a ton, spread all around the building, and something like 4 spots on 2 short wall segments. That is advertising screwed up. The BIGGEST problem, is this was all added as a patch... and I already had bought the frigging game. I don't mind ads if they add to ambience. I find hammer-head cola, or a generic "cola" vending machine much worse than a coke or pepsi machine in a game. If I have billboards, I want to see advertisements. Especially if they are not spammed. I DON'T want to see nearly every wall having posters in a game, unless I am getting a GOOD discount on that title.
I don't think this is nearly the same. A closer representation, would be Pepsi memory, or Coke Memory. My daughter LOVES the Dora character. She has more interest in anything with Dora on it... So, HECK YEA, I would spend the $2 more a Dora version.
Largely responsible? I think they were explicitly responsible for it! I remember back in the day, you had Deathmatch, Deathmatch where you played with the physics setting, Deathmatch on custom maps. Then, later, there was this threewave CTF thingy. Awesome levels, they added the now classic "grappling hook", and a new generation of gaming was born.
I have seen the pics before, and agree. She looks good... but it's not her. The real her, on the show, is far more sexy, than those photo shoots trying to make her look sexy.
We did an adventure where we were on a ship, so everything wsa close together. My "area affect" spell affects up to 5 creatures, and no 2 can be more than 15' apart. I was, from a combat perspective, VERY powerful. We then went to a more open area... and against undead... and I was kind of lame, though, I DID come through, at a key moment. That is where mages/psions work well. I think the main reason that I like psionics, is that they are a LOT more like I think a "mage" should be.
That is something to be thankful of, not lament. I am thankful that Gygax started Chainmail, and then D&D... but I have seen his later works. He is just not my type of writer. I am REALLY happy to see where the 3.5 editors took D&D.
Complete Psionic wasn't that bad... it wasn't great, either. I DO like the new core class in the back. Our group doesn't have a true mage type, so I took that one in. You don't get a LOT of powers to use per day... but you can use the top few you REALLY need that day.:-)
I am QUITE tired of the anti-psionic crap that goes on. Psionics, the new version, is very well thought out. In the right encounters, they are VERY powerful. They are VERY flexible. BUT, that all comes with a price of just a few powers per level (psion class) or all the powers like a wizard, but you can only use a few of those, each day... though, you can use them multiple times.
It is simple to understand. MMORPGs can not come CLOSE to capturing the feel of a table of your friends, playing a PnP game. I play MMORPGs, and PnP. I understand both. PnP has so much more depth. So much more friendship. Being married, with kids (and most of my RPG buddies are, as well) we only play every-other week, but we all look forward to it.
The closest thing, that I have seen to this, is Neverwinter Nights... and even it is sorely lacking.
I have spent that much, for less FPS increases, myself.
After reading both articles, I am really interested in this product. I am REALLY looking forward to more real-world numbers. I did find it interesting, that the guy doing the review, still seemed skeptical, and suggested watching for more reviews. Though, now, we have a physics card and a "Killer NIC" card... which do you buy first? New CPU?
Yea, and all games coming out today, will run in software renderers. Even if it is not really plausable today... tomorrow, there may be enough penetration, to make it like Video cards. Where you have to have a high-end one, to play video games.
In all honesty, friends have had my copy of Firefly for more time, than it has spent at my house. Firefly has legs, they just havenot really been given the opportunity to stretch.
I agree with this. SciFi has put FF in a few nice time slots, and supported it. Unlike Fox. I am not happy with Sci Fi cancelling SG1, though, I admit, I understand it. I am still not happy that they canceled Farscape a season early. But, they could really restore my confidence, if they brough FF back. Though, with the agreement with Fox... it may be many years before we see Firefly on TV again. I liked the movie, but in all honesty, I really liked the show better. I would much rather see 20+ 1 hr episodes a year, than 1 2-3 hour movie every-other year.:-) Though, a movie is better than nothing.

I DID see an increase in frame rate, with my Xfi, after upgrading from onboard. Of course, the sound QUALITY went up exponentially, as well.
I have spent that much, for less FPS increases, myself.

Yea, my wife and I were not happy about that, either. *sigh*
In all honesty, friends have had my copy of Firefly for more time, than it has spent at my house. Firefly has legs, they just havenot really been given the opportunity to stretch.
You forgot: Who in the hell is Book. He has a LOT of insider knowlege. There is another season, there.
:)
You also forgot, Mal and Inara. Kind of like d, above.
I know several people that have not watched Firefly. Most are planning on watching it, but have not, yet.

THAT is it. Thanks. :-) I was thinking it was Half-Life that picked it up, but I was not sure.
