so all those fedora core , mandrake and other linux iso's are illegal?
Please learn to read. I never said that.
just because dipwads think sharing commercial non-shareable software is fun does not mean that everyone is.
My point was (for those not paying attention) that the vast majority of files being shared on suprNova (both by number of trackers, and number of downloaders) are illegal pirated files (pirated software, bootleg movies, etc.)
Ah, but you're forgetting the case where 2600.com (or something like that) was forced to remove links to DeCSS from their website, with the justification that they assist pirates.
Now, given that suprnova links directly to obviously illegal files (and not just programs that can be used illegally)..
Personally, that caused me to watch TBS less than I would if they just started at the regular times. If I want to know "What's on at 9:00?", I look at the 9:00 listings, that's it.
Pirates will be able do download their illegal wares much faster, without the inconvenience of web mirrors going offline by pesky interference by law enforcement officials.
Let's just be clear: BitTorrent is legal, and can be very useful but the trackers on suprnova.org pretty much all link to ILLEGAL pirated files.
XORP's first version was released in July, and heavier-duty versions are due in coming years. While it's hardly the first effort to make routing software in an open-source format, it may be the most promising, due to $3 million in funding from high-powered backers such as Intel, Microsoft (MSFT ), and the National Science Foundation.
I would have cooperated with the FBI. Most likely, the person they're going after has done something evil (I'd bet my money they're investigating a spammer..)... And who uses wget to download something from a website, anyway?
2 points: 1) I erred in my original post. I was posting under the assumption that the article (as with many on/. ) was simply a knock at XP's security. Surely, I thought, if they were going to do that the least they could do would be to install the latest patches. It turns out, on further review of the website, that the guy is simply against spyware..
2) VPN works perfectly fine for me. I just needed to tell the XP firewall to allow the connections (automatic, just clicked "allow")
Note that the latest version of Internet Explorer, as patched by Windows XP Service Pack 2, is not vulnerable to the installations shown in my video and discussed above.
Service pack 2 installations not vulnerable. Nothing to see here. If you don't apply the proper patches to your software, expect exploits... although personally, I prefer Firefox over IE:->
The book opens with two chapters that more or less cover why we need design patterns at all. Did you know getters/setters are bad? Did you know that subclassing is dangerous? If you said No to either question, you need this book and these two chapters in particular will get you up to speed on good OO practices.
Can someone explain why accessor and mutator methods (I assume this is what he means by "getters/setters") are bad?
My (implied) intention was to say "copyrighted music without explicit permission from the copyright owner" instead of "music" in all instances. That would be too long and annoying to write out.
What a nutjob!

He claims to be an attorney, but thinks that anything short of burning a song on a CD and giving that CD to someone else is NOT illegal: MacNET: I don't understand. Here you are downloading pirated music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, yet you won't burn a song to CD for me. Why?
Doug: Because, like I said, it's illegal. I don't distribute the music, I only download it.
Nevermind that a) downloading music is illegal, in the US at least b) downloading music from eDonkey or BitTorrent IS distributing, and he freely admits to using such tools.
And to top it all off, he claims to be saving Western culture by pirating music! LOL!
This guy is asking to be sued. I think it's pretty likely within a few months, he'll be in court.
Amazing, though, that the ISPs haven't cut off his account..
Then again.. since when has Bush let an international treaty step in the way of his goals?
Why, if Bush went according to all of the treaties the US has signed, they'd never have gone into Iraq (UN), be reducing greenhouse gas emissions (Kyoto), not even think of developing missile defense (ABM treaty), would allow softwood lumber from Canada duty free (NAFTA)...
That's not to say all of the security problems in software are the "fault" of C++ (if you're careful, you can use it securely), but the runtime checks that C++ neglects in favour of execution efficiency certainly play a large part. I would expect C/C++ (in it's current form) dies off as the dominant language of software development within the next 5-10 years because the additional execution efficency will become less and less significant with hardware improvements.
All that ruling covers is downloading and placing music in a shared folder (not explictly uploading). (Note: MUSIC only.. because we pay a levy for personal copying of music).
It is still illegal to distribute (ie. upload) copyright works. Given that by opening a torrent you are explictly uploading (you aren't able to download if you don't upload, in most cases), the passive, "shared folder" defense doesn't seem to hold.
Even if he didn't write Sobig, he's a spammer, and a scumbag.. and that's justification enough to hit him over the head with a big (think Acme-sized) mallot) in my book.
The patent itself seems legitimate enough (there's actually technical detail, there.. and I'm not certain how much was known or "obvious" about 3D graphics in the late '80s).. but waiting 16 years to file suit is simply ridiculous.
Isn't there some provision that says the patent holder must try to minimize damages? Or am I thinking of something else (trademark?)
like combine and decode (ie. multi-part messages),
yEnc encoding,
etc.
That's about all this is.
Mark my word, it ain't gonna happen.

Sounds a little odd to me..
I love it!
Until law enforcement starts cracking down on products advertised through spam, then this is the only way to fight the battle on this front.
I say, bring it on!

He must get quite a few offers from nice businessmen in Nigeria who need help getting their money out of the country.
Bill helps them out..
Profit!
Repeat millions of times over.. and ca-ching!

Gee.. good idea! Exclude 90%+ of the world from even attempting to win this prize. Yeah, that'll make it more likely that this will succeed.

Seems like the joint's gone downhill ever since Perens left.
Since when?

Zig heil! The censors (err.. "moderators") are out today!
Explain how this post is flamebait? C'mon.. I dare ya.

I voted for Kodos.
I for one welcome our new err.. old oppressive overlord!
..
He was the strongerest of the two candidates, and deserving of victory..
God help us.
