Nevermind that, but anyone who actually could do it would not do so (for any reward value) because of this condition: You also must publicly disclose in a reproducible manner the method(s) used to win the challenge.
Umm.. if anyone can actually do this, the IP involved is probably quite valuable (either financially or for national security). So.. yeah. Not going to happen..
And yeah, you definitely can be fired for it. By all means, talk to your boss and outline your concerns.. but if push comes to shove, and your boss demands that you do it, and you outright refuse, you may very well be looking for a new job.
Ideally, MS should get out of this ridiculous business of charging insanely inflated prices for storage and just open it up to use 2.5" hdd's like Sony has (not that I'm a Sony fan - but in this case, they're clearly superior).
I don't see digital purchases of movies/games/etc. for the 360 really taking off when people are limited to 20GB..
Seriously. Because a lot of times "homebrew" is merely a code word for "illegally copied games" (oh, wait.. let's call them "backups", yeah.. that sounds much better).
If it allows you to write your own software for the Wii (is there an SDK publicly available?).. well, then we're talking and this is something to get excited about.
Doesn't seem to me to be a good use of time and developer resources to *remove* functionality from Ubuntu just to satisfy "free software" zealots, for whom any piece of proprietary software (no matter how well it works) is the spawn of satan, their kryptonite (insert other metaphors)..
Hey, I guess if devs have time on their hands.. but I'd suggest fixing some of the serious issues with 8.0.4 of Ubuntu, proper, ought to be a higher priority..
"It's fun to change all the settings, break the system, then have to go to recovery mode to repair it." That's not how I'd define fun.. no, it's really more of a different word.. what would that be? A PAIN IN THE ASS.
Maybe this is why I've never really been into Linux..
The value prospect of HD-DVD right now is compelling. Picked up a 360 add-on for $49 - which comes with King Kong and five free* (admittedly, quite limited selection) HD-DVDs. * + $10 shipping
Then picked up a bunch selling at deepdiscount.com for $10. Then picked up Planet Earth for $35 (damn Canadian shipping costs - would have been $25 if I lived in the US!).
In all, I've spent maybe $250. That's not enough to even buy a Blu-Ray player.. but it was enough to get me HD player, plus a whole bunch (20)+ of movies..
Worst case scenerio.. in a few years, I have to rip all of these movies to BD. But for now, I feel like I've made out pretty well..
Gee.. ROCKSTAR is doing this? The same Rockstar that has borrowed from numerous sources for their games (Cluckin' Bell, LIPS FM, etc. just off the top of my head.. ) and of course, the obvious parody of Jack Thompson..
Rockstar should be the LAST ONES bitching about people doing parodies..
This proves it.
(mod note: mod this as "funny" if anything. I know some people get confused with witty statements..)
It'd be neat if (ordinary) people could send messages to the astronauts on the station..

You also have to pay for shipping back and forth, though.

IANAA (not an American :->) and IANAL, so I don't know what this concept is.
I've been burned by scratched DVD+Rs too many times. I'd be interested if there were a way to do this kind of thing in Windows..
Sandisk SSD drives are poorly made and perform poorly (much worse than others..). This is just Sandisk trying to shift the blame elsewhere..
I've received *SPAM* voicemail messages before (is there a term for that already? Maybe I should invent one..).
Bloody bastards making me waste my precious wireless minutes to hock their shitty wares.. I would seriously kill the fucker responsible..

eBay may have had an argument when Google Checkout first came out. But it's been available for two fucking years now.. what more does eBay want?

Isn't the Internet designed to route around blockages/outages (which, really, are more or less the same thing from the network pov..)?
Am I missing something?

The MS article is factually accurate - copyright law does not protect ideas expressed in works. Mr. Geist even updated the posting to reflect this.
More like 10 million pirates.
So.. what's the problem here?
I was not affected by this issue, but I'm impressed by the explanation that really answered the question of "how the fuck could this happen" well..
as a software developer, I can't say I wouldn't make the same mistake in the same circumstances..
Reminds me of a presentation I saw online:

Exactly how many copies of Windows N has Microsoft sold?
Yeah, that's why this is a bad idea, as well..
Paddling the school canoe? You bet that's a paddlin' :->
