This "NX" stuff to separate data and instructions is sort of like crossing current CPUs' Von Neumann architecture with a Harvard architecture type of chip, where the storage is actually separate from the executable code.
This system looks almost identical to the portage system in Gentoo, except without USE variables. Of course, I don't know that much about either system, but I don't see how this is any better (or even very much different) than the system that Gentoo has already developed.
Anyway, I've always disliked it when companies charged more money for the same technology, without the crippled-ness of the cheaper version. It seems somehow dishonest.
"Microsoft is continuing its commitment to open industry standards by adding EFI boot support to all versions of the Longhorn generation of Windows products," said Tony Pierce, Technical Evangelist of Microsoft's Windows Hardware Innovation Group. "Participation in the collaborative community effort around the Foundation code that Intel is announcing today will help systems manufacturers and firmware companies deliver new and exciting platform innovations to their customers."
I wonder if this is going to be like Microsoft's "support" for Java...
Actually, logarithmic functions do not have a limit or an asymtote. They keep increasing to infinity, but do so much more slowly than exponential functions.
Wait, Mars essentially airless? Mars has an atmosphere, even if it is pretty thin, of mostly CO2. We can't breathe this, of course, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.
Well, all software has security holes. Hackers/crackers are always going to find these holes, given enough time. Open source software lets these same hackers fix the security holes, rather than just emailing the company or reporting them publicly. Malicious crackers, of course, will take advantage of either. So, open source is probably WORSE (from a security standpoint) for small projects, but works exceptionally well for large, popular projects, since with that many eyes somebody's bound to see something and submit a patch.
Feel free to point out any errors in my argument, I'm new at this whole evangelizing business.;)
Seriously, hasn't MS learnt anything about the Internet yet? Why do they keep insisting to keep all of these ports open all the time? Why so many services running out of the box? Why can't people even close some of the listening ports?
Because they continue to make a whole lot of money without doing so. People will use windows whether it's secure or not, so why go to the effort to secure it?

And it's slashdotted already? Sheesh.

Imagine a beowulf cluster of these!
Ahh! Now I'm saying IT! Ahh! Now we're all saying IT!
I, for one, welcome our new Fresnel lens overlords!
...either SCO keeps quiet and the case is thrown out, or they point out the "infringing" parts of Linux, which get rewritten.
the applicationss they use We wants applicationss, my preciouss...
Then why aren't we being bombarded with this incredible brilliance right now?
And imagine what would happen when somebody found an exploit...
Apple's early version of OS X, called Rhapsody, actually ran on x86.
Just imagine a beowulf cluster of these things!
Mars and Luna are both essentially airless.

But what Zubrin wants is a permanent settlement, not just a human on Mars. There's a difference.

Why are these guys still allowed to stay in business?!
Unfortunately, you aren't the police.
Technically, all of slashdot is a "loser" topic. ;)
