Been about a year since I last tried mandrake. I'm quite interested to see how far they've come however I've been disappointed by it many times in the past... Beautiful interface but very poor support for my hardware. On the other hand all of the old school distros (Slackware, RedHat/Fedora) have paled in comparison to Knoppix
I find that many people are quite pessimistic when it comes to the feasibility of alternative fuels. Encouraging research such as this is good for the general public's morale, hopefully sooner than later American farmers, rather than terrorist states will power our vehicles.
Wonder if I can convince the boss to send me to Switzerland to attend a conference... On second thought i'll settle for a cup of coffee and a toblerone.
I think a simple legal disclaimer would have been more appropriate. As some of us find the OS stats intesting and useful for comparison against our own server stats...
Seems like the kind of flaw that Alcatel hopes to profit from...
Alcatel hopes security will get users to switch
Although as we all know if Alcatel was the market leader more people would be finding flaws in Alcatel products instead of Cisco...
Looks like many users who aren't very windows savvy are going to have to make the choice between security and usability...
I do think that this is partly MS's fault and partly that of co's who's apps shouldn't require an internet connection (especially on obscure ports) do.
I've never been a big fan of software firewalls but the flaw (imho) in windows firewall which allows it to be disabled by other applications should allow third party developers to release patches that will reenable the necessary ports...
Overall SP2 will do much more good than bad for the average user and minor "gliches" are definately worth the added security for many of the users I know are waiting for the public release.
with that kind of ambition we'll be sipping pina coladas on mars in no time at all...
who knows what distant planet we'll have colonized by the time our robots are as smart as crickets.
giving people the choice to add ads is pretty interesting... my first thought was "who would willingly expose themselves to extra advertising" but then i remembered some of the magazine junkies i know who buy the publication for the sole reason that they have a good advertiser list...
i know too many paranoid people (some with good reason) who will not run an app if the checksums do not match... this would throw that system for validating authenticity out the window... companies may embrace it but in the end users will vote with their feet (or mice)...
The word liability will freak out any small ISP enough to contact the "user" and give them a stern warning... I don't know if you'd have any luck with one of the big boys (AOL, Earthlink...)
Does this mean I can replace the paperclip that keeps giving me sass with an animation (derived from a video) of a man dressed up as a paperclip...
Who has more free time on their hands... Me or MS???
Now if they could only invent something so that when i'm using a cell the person on the other end of the call can actually hear me and not just static and noise...
You won't need a fancy device to find me... I'll have one finger in my ear and be screaming profanity throughout the duration of the call... You'll hear me from way more than 30 meters away!
"They are just happy that it's a PHP license and they can do whatever they want with it and can ship it with their commercial products,"
Yes we are... There are always the GPL extremists who believe everything under the sun should be GPL'd but PHP's license is pretty darn flexible... There are a good number of other companies who's license terms probably would be better for picking on.
i know in the states there's a big lobby of groups (think riaa) that would like to shut down some of the more popular p2p networks claiming they endanger children by spreading child porn...
but what does inflating (or blocking in the first place) the number of sites blocked on the www? sites will get new ip addresses and domains and reappear elsewhere as long as there are degenerates demanding it...
what bt hsould do is report the customers who access specific flagged sites and let the authorities investigate the customers intent (check their names against a known offenders list).
what if dsl2 ever gets off the ground in the u.s. and how about wi-max (802.16)... it would be nice to see some price deflation in the hi-speed access arena...
If little apps that rest in your systray that check for gmail every minute or so annoy them (if they aren't made by g)
Gmail Cracks Down on Third-Party Notifiers
I'm sure they will be less than pleased with an app that has the potential to waste enormous (and excessive) amounts of bandwidth and disk space...

BBC also has a story on this...
If the animated dog says my machine is secure who am I to argue with it...
The fact that SCO still exists and thinks that suing random companies that use Linux is a valid business model is mind-boggling.

Good read, the near future should bring some pretty amazing advances to Wi-Fi security (look forward to AES)

interesting read, if anybody is looking for more info nasa has a good writeup on scramjets...
NASA - What's a Scramjet?
It's always nice to see promining new technologies on the horizon that can drastically imporove peoples lives...
I just have one question though will you choose Visdose NT or Eyeballix as your primary OS

SP2 for Windows XP isn't as secure as Microsoft touts it to be you just blew my mind :)
ah the benefits of having lots of free time on your hands :)

the cloak of secrecy must now be refreshed with the blood of p2p users...
