    You can try to switch the runlevel to a single-user or non-networking mode using 'init'
    And then you switch back to networking mode and all relevant services have probably been restarted.

    Someone once advised me to do 'dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1' and then run lilo to solve some problems i had with booting..
    He actually wasnt messing with me, but just not thinking very well and i just blindly did it.
    Now, i managed to salvage a scrap of paper on which i had written the partition sizes at installation..
    From this i reconstructed my partition-table with fdisk, ran lilo, and the system booted fine (and ran with that install for a year or so).

    Ah.. the memories of when these things actually worked out okay..

    Yes it did.
    I think that most people that are multi-tasking are doing a number of things quite shallowly.
    Reading news, playing some tunes, writing a reply on slashdot...
    I have no real clue, but i doubt there are many people who are able to do immersive tasks (coding, studying) simultaneously and properly.

    Good on Lycos for finally having the balls to stand up to these guys. The spammers have been stealing bandwidth off all of us for far too long now.

    I wonder how much bandwidth is used to illegaly download media/software as compared to spamming.
