Thats because google do things differently. They release stuff as beta and constantly improve it. That similar to the OSS way - release early and often. MS are used to competing with other proprietary software (there are exceptions, notably Netscape) companies and their mantra is pretty much take your time and release it when its ready, then slowly release fixes when necessary. MS can beat this proprietary attitude with money and manpower. Against the release often and early crowd, they are screwed.

People still donate money (campaign contributions) to politicians? Don't they realise that a large part of the tax they pay every day goes towards the bulging wallets and fat bank accounts that are political salaries?

Voting doesn't mean anything when all the voting options lead to the same end result - far right or a bit left of far right (or the left and slightly right thereof if thats what they have convinced you they are today). Modern politics is just a media circus. Important issues always get sidelined to mudslinging.

Basically, either you are a highly bribed politician or you're no one and you opinion is of no consequence. Public consensus hasn't been involved in the process for a very long time.

Its not exactly going to be a 100% mortgage. MS make money - a lot of it - from OEM OS sales and Office. Financial institutions will be falling all over themselves to get a grasp of that empire.

Google make a hell of a lot of money from ads, and this is what this buy-out is about in the end, competing for some of googles ad money. Financial institutions love money, so how exactly can they lose here?
