    Admittedly my facebook page is just a holder so that people can get in touch with me if needed... but it's useful even just for that.

    And an email address wouldn't do that? The only time it wouldn't is if the other person didn't know your email address, and really, I'd prefer strangers couldn't work out my email address from personal data. And vice versa, come to think of it.

    Actually, IM is legitimately different than email, which has no presence notification, and certainly isn't instant in pretty much any implementation I've seen.

    Gmail comes closest - it does have a presence indicator (since it's integrated with googlechat) and it's close to instant.

    Most college admissions offices print out the electronic application, and then go by that.

    And then scan the printout into an image, and paste the image into an Excel spreadsheet. (yes, I've seen this)

    Or there's the people that submit webcammed movies of bug reports that run for 30min+

    I've been happier as the customer of the handset vendor (NexusOne) than the customer of carrier phones (usually HTC Windows via Telstra) You certainly get software updates in a more timely fashion.

    The model for cell phones in the US is VASTLY different than the rest of the world.

    Ok, let me re-ask the question, "would you guys in the USA prefer the model the rest of the world uses?"

    Because, if you asked the question "would the rest of the world prefer the USA model?" I suspect the answer would be a resounding "NO"

    Given that you answer Yes, what are you doing about it?

    No, it's not unreasonable. They turned down doing an interview by video camera, because if the questioning should warrant an arrest, there would no way to arrest him over video conferencing. This is entirely reasonable.

    If the questioning should warrant an arrest, they can issue a warrant at that time. The immediate gratification of cuffing him instantly is not entirely reasonable.
