Spectrum? Bandwidth? Everyone seems to be forgetting the real limiting factor with cell phones... Battery life. All these fanciful ideas on what a cell phone can do or go about doing it will take power. Without a giant leap in in battery technology, you are just wishing in a jar. The amount of energy needed to support all these wonderful ideas has to be portable and last longer than two days between charges before anything can be added to current cell phone technology. How long has the electric car been waiting for battery technology to get up to a point that a car can travel 40 miles on a single charge? We need a breakthrough in battery technology before we need a breakthrough in cell phone technology.
Back in the 80's we had a list of passwords for different places. The FBI computer system had 2 levels of passwords, the first was rocky and the second was bullwinkle. Gotta love these tough two level password systems...
I have said it before. Verizon has wonderful phone service. But heaven help you if you ever have to deal with their customer service people. They are rude, assinine, and don't give a rat's behind what your problem is. The customer is always wrong and unimportant is their company motto. Of course this is just from my personal experience with them.
It varies from state to state. In Georgia, a person is required to have some form of ID on them at all times (hardly ever enforced however). In Ohio you do not have to produce your drivers license even when pulled over as long as you know your DL number or social security number. These are two states that I know of personally, so as you see it varies.
Many years ago, when I worked in movie theaters as a teen ager... The individual movie theater hs the projectionist splice in all the trailers and concession teases when they put the movie together. The film distributers send out trailers and recommendations for what film to put them on, but whoever is splicing the film has the final decision as to what gets added. As a side note, the film arrives in the theater on reels in cans and is spliced together into one long continuous film onto a "platter". There aren't really film or projector changes anymore. They might have to change lenses at the start of the actual movie since the trailers may be in a different aspect ratio but it is all one piece of film.
My thoughts exactly! Probably not so much beta testing as actual usage of the final version. You know how the military won't reveal what they have until they have something better. I bet the newest version will cause blackouts in whole cities not just open your garage door.

Who are you using for DSL? I live in F'burg also and have gone round and round with Verixon over getting DSL ( I won't go into it again, previously vented on/.). Currently I am stuck with Adelphia cable but want out.
My younger daughter (13yo) found some of my old AD&D books and has started an interest in it. She carries the monster guide with her and uses it as an inspiration for drawing. I guess the new generation will continue where we old timers left off. Happy B-day D&D!
While it is true that tubes do wear out, anyone with serious experience in music can tell you that tubes have a richer fuller sound. Would I give up my modern transisterized equipment? NO. However to get warm full sound that will be able to knock your socks off (and shatter a few windows) you should really consider tubes.
Yeah she is old school thinking. She turned 61 this year and can barely handle email let alone a proprietary system that doesn't look anything like the old forms. Computers and technology scare the bejesus out of her.
My mother (an RN) was recently complaining about the hospital she works in going to using computers in place of paper to do all the patient reports. She had a fit when I told her the local hospitals are using laptops and scanners in every room and medicines are kept lockedup until the nurse scans the patient ID. After the computer verifies the patient it then unlocks the proper drawer so the nurse can get the proper medicine. Now this comes along and she will end up in a nut house for sure.
What they feel they should have taken in versus what they did is irrelevant. We lost 9 billion dollars... no you made 1 billion dollars, just because you wanted to make more doesn't mean you would have. It is the same for every corporation, they set a projected profit and if they don't reach it, they say they lost money. Never mind that they put 1 billion dollars in the bank free and clear.
So I take it the US military is going to remove all Coke vending machines? I mean if you shake the machine because it ripped you off and it accidentally activates one of these cans...
I agree whole heartedly about Adelphia! But Verizon lies, cheats and steals too. Their internet lookup for DSL availability said it was available for my phone number. After 5 postponements pushing my start date back, they finally cancelled my order with no explanation or anything. When I called to find out why, they tell me it isn't available. After talking to a dozen different people and departments, some of them promising to call me back with a reason (never did) all I could get was I was to far from their central hub. No explanation as to why the internet service said it was available. So now I am stuck with Adelphia and their outrageous rates and increases.

Just remember that 74% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
Add Virginia and Georgia.

Just relax. The world is ending in December 2012 anyway. So why get all excited over a little extra CO2 for a few years.
but a router is not a computer, it is an access device to the ISP
He just has bigger marbles and isn't afraid to show them.
Now then when they do come back on line, thet will get slashdotted by everyone trying to see what's going on.
Slashdot Slashdotted by Slashdot.... ooooohhhh the horror!
OLD news! I know its a slow news day, but stories about this have been around for years. Come on guys at least don't put it on the front page, please.
