    How do you teach users to deal with bugs? They can be doing everything right, and suddenly get "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". And if they ask me how to fix it, well, how the hell should I know?

    Black holes couldn't exist because an event horizon would take an infinite amount of time to form. This is because of time dilation. As a mass comes together and starts to collapse, the time gets slower and slower in the local vicinity of the mass, and it never reaches the point of no return because it would take an infinite amount of time. You'll have some sort of frozen star that acts kinda like a black hole, but there would be no event horizon or singularity, unless you look at the asymptotic case of infinite time. (Actually the whole thing would evaporate before it got that far anyway.)

    An argument against the above is here. It's far better than my argument, but it just seems too crazy for an object to traverse the infinite future and come back to the present by falling into a black hole. There'd be two copies of the object in existance.

    When you signed that contract that said anything you worked on is theirs, that means that you cannot bring GPLed sources in and use them in your work. The company you work for is in the understanding that the work you do is transferrable to them. Obviously, their rights over your work cannot supersede the GPL since you don't have the right to submit GPLed property as your own work. You messed up.

    And that's the problem with software patents. It's so easy to independently stumble upon the same algorithm.

    Most of the patents really should fall under the 'too obvious' category because it's been thought of many times before and it will continue to be independently thought of.

    Hardly any of the ideas are truly new, and its just a grab-fest for companies that can afford to file as many patents as they can.

    Funny, I find Excel very useless for moderate amounts of data (say, 80000 points). Excel is more fitted for making status reports than doing any real work.
