The Wii will be the first to cross the PSP in ownership and that will happen Q1 2008. It is set to sell around 16 million console this calendar year, add the 3 million for the launch to year end and you are nearly at the PSPs total ownership.
I cannot see anything stop the Wii at the moment, Wii sports will rule the world. Nintendomination!!!
Exec: "Hey found this on Utube, man, kill it!!" Lawyer: "Sir, yes, Sir" {emails DMCA takedown} Lawyer: "WTF... !! Sir, they issued a counter takedown!" Exec: "What the hell is that?"
Lawyer: "I'm not sure it has never happened before, it must be a mistake, I'll just email the takedown notice again... Maybe I should look up this DMCA in one of those big books I have in my office"
If this is true "The Outlook-Exchange Transport Protocol supports personal information management features such as e-mail, calendar, contacts and task functionality in Office Outlook 2007, including shared calendars and scheduling capabilities. The protocol is available for licensing now, although Microsoft will continue to tinker with the specifications until June or so."
Microsoft will cease to have relevance one year from Now!!!
Maybe not exactly a year, but if there could be quality OSS products integrated with outlook/exchange then the windows stranglehold would be mortally weakened.
I wonder what these licensing conditions are, are the GPL compatible... hmmmmm
I have always liked gnome, it is simple and does what I want. It is a very clean experience. Gnome has been good enough for me since the 2 series started. It just works for me now and I do not think about it much.
Since ubuntu I believe the quality has gone up and I like how ubuntu's features all integrate well.
I do not understand why people who complain about gnome not being like KDE do not just use KDE. It is to everyones benefit that there are two DEs and both have different agendas, because it is unlikely that one DE would suit everyone.
"All I know is that Israel deserves the land, while the Palestinians do not."
"No, I'm afraid us mere mortals still have a right to hold opinions."
To know something sounds a lot more concrete than an opinion. Maybe if you thought that Israel deserves the land at least that implies that, as a mortal, you can be wrong.
There is no way, no matter how much you have read or experienced on the subject, you can KNOW for sure that Israel, as a whole deserves all that land.
I have a funny feeling that whole situation is a little more complicated than that. How do you measure all the pain and misery that has been caused by the conflict and say that one side is more deserving than the other.
Truth is that you cant and that a solution to this problem will probably only happen when everyone involved moves beyond the past. It will involve sacrifices from all involved and some sort of truth and reconciliation.
Supporting one side over the other is unlikely to help this situation and you can be sure there are as many Angels and Demons on both sides of the fence.
"How about: "Star Trek: The Crusher Adventures", in which Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton, of course, who is about the right age now) uses his Traveller powers to explore far reaches of the Universe."
Is it me or does this sound like a really good show!!
"Or so some people claim. The entire issue is so incredibly and mind-bogglingly convoluted that I've stopped caring. All I know is that Israel deserves the land, while the Palestinians do not."
Who made you God? I think He'd be the only person who could say that they deserve it.
Saying that it is pointless to debate this because people need to accept the reality on the ground right now.
Still I think the pre 1967 border should be re-enacted, policed by UN blue hats and the Israelis and Palestinians isolated from each other for a generation or two...
I get the feeling that there is a master plan behind all the moved Nintendo have been making for the past year or two.
Everything with the DS and Wii, the specific features they have, the marketing. They have made it clear that the want to bring non-gamers into the fold (blue ocean??).
This latest channel seems more than something random or just cool, I think they are making chess moves and soon their master plan will unfold, something great with be revelled and then checkmate!
"This is not a legal opinion (IANAL), but it IS a summary of legal advice was given to my wife (HR Manager) regarding employees of her company leaving."
Your from the US and your wife is a HR manager?? I though HR enquiries there went straight to Legal....
I am interested in how this will turn out, it is like a bad soap...
You can bet that it will be >650 here in Ireland, maybe even hitting the 700 mark. They mention 300,000 units for the UK, so maybe 10K for Ireland.
Still I know it will be sold out here in Ireland. Some of my friends will buy at launch, I cannot understand it and they are not rich. The only thing is that their GF's might nix it. That is a lot to spend on a console and most guys in the 20-30 bracket who have a better half will have a tough time convincing them.
Also will being the cheapest BD player around affect attach ratio? I wonder how many will buy it to just watch BD movies, of course Sony wont care, but 3RD parties might.
I cannot see many familys springing for one this Christmas either, it is 2-3 hundred too much. After the insane hard core have had their fill will sales just petter out?
"You can get ten times the graphics power, and you can make a prettier picture, but when somebody makes a new IO device that really changes the way that people interact with the game, that's going to have a larger benefit there.
"So I'm really pleased with what they're (Nintendo) doing with the Wii and with the DS-and they're doing innovative things,"
"But our current generation of game technology is not targeted at the Wii. Maybe that was a mistake on our part originally, but we have been looking strictly at the 360, PS3 and PC as what we want to simultaneously develop on. We probably aren't going to be able to hit the Wii with the same technology platform."
I think he is very interested in the Wii. Just the projects and engines they have are not a fit for the platform.
Personally I believe the GFX on the Wii are grand. I luv the controller and the who package is sweet.
Determining if Global Warming is man made or not is unlikely to be conclusive in own lifetime (due to geological time-scales).
So debating and researching, while important and should continue, is totally pointless regarding what we are going to do about it.
Temperatures are rising, there is a good chance that we are to blame. We need to act now or the consequences will be dire.
The sceptics need to get in line and we make the hard decisions, lowering pollutants is only going to have a good long term effect anyway.
But we may not be able to stop the increasingly extreme weather, we need to plan for sea rises, hi/lo temps, hurricanes, droughts and we need to do it now.
This is a worldwide problem, we have been possibly given a warning, even if it all turns out to be bunk there are loads of pluses to doing all the work anyway: cleaner environment, better worldwide disaster response, new clean techs, new markets for clean tech,....
I am sick of all the back and forth, take the finger out bush, everyone sit down, decide what we are going to do and get on with it. You can bitch and moan during and after, just do something NOW!!!!
The Wii will do very very well... But here in Ireland the console scene is rulled by the playstation heads.
All they play is the latest Tiger Woods and Fifa. So maybe a lot of them will not upgrade to the PS3, however the PS2 will still compete for a long time with the Wii.
The reason I care is because the second hand game market here is important. If I want to get a reasonably cheap/good game second hand is where I will get it and the stores only have a limited amount of space.
I hope the game stores push Wii and there are lots of the second hand games for it, because I do no have too many 50's in my wallet.
I think that you dont get it. It is about immersion. I bought it and initally thought it was cool. I am an old skool D&Der and ultima underworld player..
I enjoyed combat and the advancement was cool. The storyline and quests and amount of stuff to do was great.
However, after a bit of mucking around the problems with the world started to appear. Everybody knew everything. I would rob a horse in one town and everybody in the world knew about it. The guard followed me day and night for weeks until I eventually killed him and everyone knew.
The way the baddies were always powerful enough to be challenaging annoyed me, sometimes they should have been too powerful and other times I should have been able to wipe the floor with them.
How can a shop keeper 300 miles away from the house I nicked a cup know it was stolen????
No combat on horses was a dissapointment.
It ruined the game for me. I played it for maybe 10 hours and then left it.
I have to say I'm impressed with the DS. It is the first portable console I have ever gotten and I am playing metroid constantly.
I've always had a bit of a nintendo bias, but these days I'm nearly becoming a fanboy. Something has really changed at the company. They seem to be making all the right moves.
They must all be playing brain training all the time. Their brains are way younger than those Sony execs...
- I have GC and a load of games. - I dont have a snowballs chance of getting an Xbox or PS3 - It will be cheap. - It will be small and portable. - I care nothing for HD TV and the GFX in the Wii will be better than the GC. - It will have the ability to download old games from my childhood. - Nintendo have a good rep for producing the games and hardware that I am interested in. - It is something very different from the PC games which I also play.
Any of the above would make me inclined to buy it. So I have already decided. My brother likes the look of it and he wants one as he is not going to get an Xbox or PS3 any time soon. And when I showed some of the vids to my Mam she wanted one for the kids in the house.
So am I a sucker? Ive checked as many reports of user experiences with this as I can and the dev/software is only going to get better as they come to grips with the hardware.
Ur on the fence, fine!! But dont heckle me because I have already made my decision.
They put together something different, marketed it well, kept up interest, got developers interested, got public interested, created news news news...
There overall plan is very well thought out with lots of subtle nooks and crannies. I really hope it all works out and people buy these things in droves. This kind of think deserves results.
I'm buying three at or near launch. (one for me, me bro and me mam) And at least 6 to 8 games between the homes.
I remember an episode of law and order, I think, that the guy had a computer in the room and had built some power magnets into the door frame.
If the computer was taken from that room it was wiped. Not sure how feasible it is, but sounds pretty cool.
The article really losses veracity once it mentions these guys:
"...and an episode of Mythbusters that tested this theory..."

Someone needs to get the device key from the PS3!!!
Revoke that.
Checkmate Sony!!
We get better at things we do more often.

Fair enuff.
Here are my reasons for buying it:
- I have GC and a load of games.
- I dont have a snowballs chance of getting an Xbox or PS3
- It will be cheap.
- It will be small and portable.
- I care nothing for HD TV and the GFX in the Wii will be better than the GC.

Nintendo have done well this round.
They put together something different, marketed it well, kept up interest, got developers interested, got public interested, created news news news...

I'm getting a Wii. Nintendo have done a superb job this time round and I think that deserves my money.
Plus I haven't got an extra few hundred to spend for an xbox/ps3.
Here in Ireland it is all about the second hand games market. The GC did poorly here and the lack of second hand games showed.
This time around I think the Wii will capture 50%+ of the market and that means loads of second hand games.
I might get a ps3 in a few years, but only if they have some really really good games and their controller is decent. Dual shock sucks donkey balls.
Pablo.
