I tried Slackware not long ago when my interest for linux grew. That was 8.1. I wanted to try it because everybody telling me their experience with slackware sounded "funny" such as
"Oh u compile and u compile! It never ends!"
"Slackware is a hard distro to learn and installing softwares won't be as easy as you think"
"Slackware makes you work like in the Russia Regime. No fun, all work!"

Those reasons were good enough to make me try Slackware since I was reading the opposite from the distributions which many people tried (and still do. mdk, rh, suse). I did not want to start with a distribution which made it easy. Making it too easy for the user sometimes avoids them from learning something that they should know.

Slackware isn't hard to learn though. It's just about you finding the proper documentation and ready to learn using 4-5 xterms (or more?). Slackware is straight forward which doesn't do anything weird cause it's rock solid and it only provides you with useful software in the cd's. I've been using slack ever since and still today.

    Patrick, great job as always!

This is nothing but the pure truth. It all depends of the person's needs. I remember when I lost my cdkey for red alert 2. I emailed westwood and they simply asked for a picture taken of your game your box and your receipt to at least prove that you own it. By doing so, they shipped me a new, closed box, copy of Red Alert 2. I found that it would of been nice if other companies also cared about their customers.

Companies such as EAGames are too traumatized to even care at that group of customers who actually make LEGAL backups. The media which is in your hands does not have a lifespan, so I assume it should last a lifetime. Well why must companies be against the fact that some of us just want to protect our media which we payed for? So we can buy other copies to fill their deep pockets?

Sure the software can break copy protections but technically, anything in life can break any kind of law. For example, I can take my hammer which is used to bash nails and use it as a doorknob fucking device and technically that would be wrong. It's all in the person's mind. EAGames, when they see a software such as XCopy, they think immediatly that everybody using it will make illegal backups so they have to make sure we, the users, have no way to make backups which *can* be redistributed illegally.

If a company and/or development team offers their program on linux and windows and that both ports are mature, then I'l use the linux port for the simple reason that linux is more reliable. A simple example could be like the following:

I'm writing whatever program in Netbeans. Then for some unknown reason, the startbar freezes and it crashes/reloads itself followed by some other weird explorer freeze which causes me to reload. These are rare on my windows xp machine but it did happend a few times and sometimes it couldn't of been at the worst of time. Therefore, I'l do whatever serious work I can on linux since I know it won't act bizzarely.

Other than realibility of linux, if I can use something in a shorter laps of time and know it will work just as good on linux, then i'l run that on windows. This is why I guess I'm not a zealot, accepting both O/S'es (debian sarge and windows xp) to co-exist on my machine.

Obviously there will always be an alternative way to get a cd copied and RIAA must really dig hard to find a way to do such a thing (and I doubt they will). There are also those other burning tools which claim that they can help make perfect images (Alcohol 110% which works almost perfectly). How would RIAA stop companies who just want people to make backups no matter what? Sometimes cd protections are FAR TOO ANNOYING. For example (maybe a bit off topic but same kind of frustration towards these protectionn)

I hate putting my BF1942 cd everytime (turn and turn babyyyyyyyy) so I wanted to mount an image to make the process go faster. Result? Every program I try ends up freezing/crashing.
