Marcel Gagne has included a Knoppix CD with his book, Moving to Linux: Kiss the
Blue Screen of Death Goodbye!
Marcel Gagne has fun bashing the past of Microsoft. Now I'm not saying Windows is stable but 2K/XP rarely gives anything remotely close to a BSOD and knowing how many are using XP over 9X, can't see how that statement is relevant.
Is this where we will see Anakin's son grow up, being an eye surgeon.
Luke: Ok just stay calm and
Obi-Wan: Luke. Use the force
Luke: Are you sure? cause
Obi-Wan: Just just use the force
Luke: ok fine
*woooin.... DZZZZZZZZZZZZZ* ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *thru the eye*
Luke: Are you happy?
Obi-Wan: I've never been happy
Then obi decides to get on a board and fight luke's father on lava while surfin?!
The idea of meeting aliens within 20 years is absurd. So many things can happend within twenty-years to change what may or may not be a precised prediction. For example, lets say a meteor slams into the alien's space ship due to USA's laser defense system which they had fun to use shooting at meteors and breaking them into smaller pieces.
Getting a monkey to become president with a cigar and rollerskates.
We have to start using the habbits of the middle age. When theres a thief, lets cut his hand and he will never retry. Well him, lets cut his computer mouse, his keyboard and his index fingers.
as long as it doesn't affect linux I guess I don't care much about the security fixes although it's nice to see these tweaks being made.
Just wondering, IF linux was more used than windows, would AMD and Intel make those fixes of MS's windows xp even though it's less popular than another O/S?
First thing I noticed which was different was when the setup detected my ntfs partition/dev/hda1 and added it automatically to/etc/fstab to mount at startup. I thought this was a nice feature especially for the newcommers who always need this feature when dualbooting and not knowing much about linux.
Overall, the difference is updated packages with the obvious replacement of xfree to xorg which was a great move by Pat. (like he's done any wrong move! pfft).
Slack 10 is a great solid distro which I reccomend also for people with slow connections cause it comes with source packages like the source of 2.6.7 kernel.
IMO, the best distro to learn the basics in & out of linux.
as always from ID Software, a true gaming company who are well organized. Their games are always top notch bringing the greatest engines ever to be licensed. Quake 1 engine was revolutionnary. Same goes for Quake 3(no shit. been used for so many games) and now Doom 3! You can predict another 10 years for Duke Nukem Forever when 3dRealms will switch engines yet again:o
This was predicted cause of QuakeCon's D3 tournament and I heard it will in same time have a linux client installer similar to Epic Game's strategy with UT 2003/2004.
Anybody could confirm this or it's just rumors flying around?
Just an opinion on the V5 Windows Update. Yes it does detect invalid products (my friends = owned). Does this mean Microsoft are getting more serious since they haven't done this before? I mean, if they could of stopped more users from using a product illegally, why not do it before cause from what I heard, rumors say crackers found a way to bypass this.
Is this a sign that Hl2 will take more time by giving a taste of their "Source Engine" (confusing name) to put the final touch on HL2?
I wouldn't be too surprised if there's some sort of feedback tool which asks the user why a certain crash occured and send in the report to valve. Actually I'd love to see that cause that would show they are even more serious about their game which may or may not be as fun and "big" as HL1.
We shall see in time why exactly they're taking this move but I don't like the fact of having to buy CS:CZ to get a license for CS:Source since HL2 comes with CS: Source (that's what the valve guy said in the trailer of ~35mb showing de_aztec).
Anybody have thoughts similar to mine, or am I just too suspicious?

Who Wrote Linux?
·
· Score: 1
Mr. burns wrote linux when he had 1000 monkeys with 1000 typewriters at his disposal.
Burns: Here are a thousand monkeys working on a thousand typewriters. Soon they will write the greatest novel man has ever read!
*Monkey gives paper to burns and smokes*
Burns: It was the best of times. It was the blurst of times. What is this! *Monkey Scream* Ah shut up.
non profit organizations such as Open Source projects have a completely different philosophy compared to corporations such as M$. Not surprised yet? I bet! Yet people wonder why Microsoft pushes and tries to convince us that their applications are better than the competition which are obviously superior (firefox > IE. VLC > WMP, etc.).
Fact is, Linux users aren't spoiled. A lot of them are crying outloud "WHY WON'T IT COMPILE" or "DAMMIT HOW I CONFIGURE X". There's a price to pay for a good part of your installations under linux and unless you're using gentoo, debian, slack w/ swaret/slapt-get, you know that sometimes getting something to work is a pain in the ass (thus the reason to go with distributions which offer great package management). Spoiled? If they're so-called "linux l33ts", then yes. For the newcommers, it's the first weeks of mayhem until they figure out something that might be so simple.
On windows, you are forced to have IE. IE obviously sucks we know it but most use it. People don't even bother installing mozilla/firefox. What does this mean? Microsoft shouldn't be totally worried knowing the average windows user is a lazyass who won't do his research. I go around, se e what my friends n foes use on their pc. They all have IE and I hear them say "OMG IE FROZE. WHAT CRAP". Then I simply say "hey u could install firefox!" and they go "yeahyeah....".
As for linux users, sure we have a wide variety of products but sometimes we have to go thru documentations or forums to find the answers to some questions which may popup while wondering how to uninstall and install "X-Named" Program. Most of the time, we're ok and we manage to replace a program with another.
If anything, we HAVE to be spoiled the most possible. To have the wide variety of choices between a certain group of applications is nothing more than great!
does it run li.... no I don't feel like saying it.
Seriously though, you can imagine such technology to be used, like the great CowboyNeal said, to check out houses on fire and search for victims that need to be rescued without going thru the process of searching.
Or is the reality that CowboyNeal is impressed by this technology and will use this to rule the world!!
MS: You're gonna release the dogs or the bees or the dogs that bark and shoot bees at you? Go ahead! Do your worst!
Mozilla: My worst ey? Smithers, release the robotics richard simmons!
RRS: Come on Big boy! Shake that butter off those buns!
Basically, just to say that Microsoft didn't really care about their navigator and now this is what they have to go thru, the reality of what their browser is and what needs to be fixed if they want to be ahead of mozilla (if possible).
Rule #1: Soviet Russia does NOT hack you
Rule #2: Windows hackers are referred as "llamas", therefor, do it more!
Rule #3: DDoS attacks are also referred as "trainee's training"
Rule #4: Hacking an O/S which makes part of 1% of the market makes you an l33t3r h@x0r.
Rule #5: If you get caught, you blame it on the guy who doesn't speak english. Ah Zutroy.
So First, we had Napster comming back. Then they decided to give away free mp3 players for registered users IIRC and now partnership with one of the biggest retailers in north america? Yes They really don't like iTunes do they? heh. An Alliance with BestBuy will surely boost popularity among average joes but if they really want to hurt the iTunes Music Store, they have to offer something special to their customers.
What I'd like to see from these music stores is something unique in it's kind. Maybe some kind offer which says "Buy 65% of the songs of any album and get the album shipped for free!" Or I donno I can think of many other special offers but I guess that would make em lose that $1 which is so precious for them... damn capitalists
This will keep me occupied until that ghostware will come out.
As a hardcore doom fan who still plays doom 1/2 (plutonium pak and final = no fun. just repeating d2 stuff), I can't wait to get my hands on this game no matter what the gameplay is. ID Software has always been the company I've supported the most due to their quality fps games & engines. I own quake 3 since it came out in 99 and I still play it today. Now that was a game worth of buying!
With doom 3 finally comming out soon to the public, you can just imagine the other companies hopping on ID's leg for a license.
Steven Seagal. 'nuff said
I assume you have to add funky antenas/card but correct me if I'm wrong.
If that is wrong, then this can't fail:
Brian: Okay, insert rod support A into slot B.
Peter: That's what...
Brian: If you say "that's what she said" one more time, I am gonna pop you
He must be one pissed mofo to have scientists work on beans.

That should take about 20 years right?
We have to start using the habbits of the middle age. When theres a thief, lets cut his hand and he will never retry. Well him, lets cut his computer mouse, his keyboard and his index fingers.
That should be harder for him to try n steal.
ballz!

"Blame it on the one who can't speak English. Ah Zutroy how you've saved us all"

At the end of the game, instead of "Game Over", will we see "Endut! Hoch Hech!" ?
