Now if IBM could jump on the Blu-Ray bandwagon we'd be set!! We (the OSS croud, linux personally) would see a lot more support with HP, Apple plus IBM's support...
I'm a Canadian too, and while I may love this country, I know better than to trust (or I should say "have confidence in") the legal system. It isn't that different from the US legal system when it comes to court procedure/rulings, and I would know based on my current employment. That aside, hopefully we'll see some repair work done to restore the ability to publish freely - on the web or elsewhere - but who's to say the media is better than the legal system in terms of trustworthiness? (queue creepy music while I put on my tinfoil hat...)
That's what my band does [aspires to do]. Considering artists make about 5% (if they're lucky) of each CD sale - most goes to the label - and most of the ticket sales goes right to the band, which would you rather? There aren't too many artists complaining about the rampant music downloading (except maybe the ones who are too old to get it, or the ones who are so huge they'll sell a retarded number of cd's before anyone's heard the crap anyway, ie Metallica). There are a few newer artists who have online-only albums (didn't one win a grammy recently?). That's why I suggested to my band that we offer the songs free on our website and charge a minor fee for tickets to see us live. No fees going to exec types and their limos...
Pretty much. If Iraq did have WMDs the US never would have put their public in jepardy by going over there - North Korea, on the other hand, presents a real threat, plus there isn't much to be gained by making them submit anyway, so we won't see the US of A showing up there any time soon...
It's a good demonstration to the US on why to avoid the socialist trap:->. Canada's economy is in a mess:->
HA! HAHA! You mean no one told you about how our economy is doing WAY better than yours! Besides - WTF does politics have to with economy (unless the politics are dictating taking over other countries' economies... but that is for another "ani-american political ideals" post). Americans are great - their political policies make them akin to the socially inept guy at parties that no one wants to talk to.
While I agree with your statement of the US having a superior economy (thanks to 10x the population, Hollywood, Disneyworld, and endless war) I disagree that they "protect us". That's a load of crap. I have friends and family in the military who would not only find that ignorant statement funny, but a little offensive.
You people are all screwy. AMD makes fistfulls of dough. Otherwise they would've quit the biz. PS - I'm not saying this just because I have an AMD FX-51, I also have a P3 733 and love it. It's lasted forever, and worked flawlessly the whole time. No bias here, just simple business sense.
I don't believe the license is the issue here. GPL basically means share, share, share. If it were simply a matter of "can we...?", then the answer is yes. So, to look at the ethics, let's put it this way: They are altering an entire code base which was handed to them, so if they don't like the idea of giving back to the hand that fed them, they should look into being bankers rather than developers. Some posts above make a good point about perhaps the fork was forked because ideas were being ignored, but I have trouble believing their "vision" was a matter of 20 or so lines of different GUI code. IMO, you are more than welcome to anything they code, and vice versa. Everyone should grow up, shake the capitalist view of computer programming when dealing in the open source world, and learn to improve their software by monitoring similar projects for useful ideas. (My only exception is that, of course, if the only reason a project gets forked is to make minor changes and try to get to version 1 first, maybe those efforts would be better spent contributing to the original project rather than a childish race.)
Exactly. People don't go installing software on their TiVo's weekly, or surfing the net with IE, or opening e-mail attachments with malicious code designed for that OS...etc. It's almost outside the realm of comparables.
I've found that having more space makes me more likely to download stuff than pause and think about whether or not I want it - as well as keep it all stored as one big digital mess. I used to spend some time keeping it all organized, whereas now it's ONE HUGE LUMP.
I always wondered if this would work! The truth is, I just assumed that spam/spammers wouldn't look at replies or even the returned mail from daemons. Why would they care? It seems more like a spam-and-run op to me, but if the shoe fits... (and you know what happens when you make an assumption! you make an ass outta you, and Umption!)
but didn't we already know this? Open source geeks have been my heroes for years, and now that I am one I know that I feel better about my open source contributions than I do about a lot of other things I do! (I'm not exactly my own hero, but I am way cooler than all those "maybe I can start my own company with this cool office suite I'm programming for DOS!" losers)
Nope. (Actually it's Minas Tirith, not Thirit...) Saruman lived at Orthanc, the tower at Isengard. Check out this list of towers for a better understanding.
Your assessment of the "ooze-eyes" condition sounds about right - I was coming it to post about all those of us who will go ahead and try to marathon it, only to be wasted by the excessive radiation and junk food... ugh! the thought is putrid but I can't stop myself from planning it!
Makes sense. Let's also keep in mind that a good lie takes into account more variables, like proposed "witnesses" to the pretend event, why they wouldn't be able to testify on your account, where your best friend was at the time (so he wouldn't know!) so he can't be asked to validate the story, extenuating circumstances leading up to the cataclysm of false occurances, etc, etc. I've told lies where I'd covered every possible angle so my Mom couldn't find out otherwise.
Even Fuel-cell cars and buses have been out for a while. (I've heard of about 3 fuel-cell buses running in Vancouver).
Obvious oil company agenda aside, I believe the lack of success in fuel-cell powered transportation is due largly to there being no truly safe way to carry the hydrogen around with you. You're basically driving a bomb that's touchier than current IC cars with gas tanks (not to mention an empty gas tank is more explosive than a full one, whereas in the hydrogen's case, BOOOM!)
I did read somewhere that "they" are making titanium casing for hydrogen storage, but can it be enough? Gives new meaning to the term "car-bomb"...
Mind you, in third edition rules a higher armor class is better. I find it strange that most (if not all) video games based on AD&D rules use the second ed, not third...
Anyone else remember Simon, the (highly addictive)electronic game where you have to repeat the beeping light tone sequences? Fun, great for toddlers to get into memory games and build... ya know, character I guess. I loved it, and not only can you find it on Ebay but they apparently still sell it (albeit smaller now, and with a transparent plastic body to jive it up for the 90's...)
It was Sony's technology!

Everyone wins except the useless music labels.

I'd rather download the theater rip than put up with this invasion...

Didn't laptops already get a name change... to notebooks?
You mean like Bush winning again? HAZAA!

Partying used to be such an adventure.
Care to explain the strange gritty substance?
Also, who's to say your fabricated goddess would be alive? (eeeeww!)

I'd rather people voted like nerds rather than voting like sheep...
What's so wrong about voting like a nerd? Doesn't "Nerd" stand for "Noteworthy Engineer/Researcher/Developer" ?
This movie is going to suck. But I still can't wait for some reason!
