Heh, it's funny that you mention hype, because I heard about this from a friend, who heard about it from a friend, then saw other people watching the google video, etc. Basically, I've heard a lot of people really excited about this game, why? Because they've seen the video that makes it look like the coolest game ever. Might we be wrong? Perhaps, but this is still one of the first games in a while that makes me want to spend money, and that's all that really matters for a successful game.
Oh, and as far as multiplayer support, it might happen one day, but there are problems. If you watch the video to the end you'll see that you can eventually destroy planets... all it would take in a multiplayer is one jerk with that sort of advancement to ruin a whole lot of people's long work.
Don't worry, I have faith that Evolution, in all His glory, will touch the hearts of these foolish religious people and make them change their ways.
Now that that's out of my system...
Seriously people, this is getting rediculous. One thing you might want to think about is the idea that you "believe in Evolution." Evolution is not a religion or a diety, but a scientific theory; more specifically one that does not address the origin of life, merely the origin of species.
The next thing I'd like you to wrap your mind around is that it doesn't harm you if people believe in Creationism of Intelligent Design. Just because a large percentage of the people believe in some ID derivative does not mean they are trying to force it on anyone. If I ask you about your beliefs and you tell me, should I pissed off that you believe them? That wouldn't really be fair, seeing as how I asked...
In case you're wondering I don't think that ID should be taught in science classes, because its not a science.
Now, can we all just move on and let people believe what they want?
Once you have physical access to the PC you can compromise it.
And? Any company with computers should have bunkers 6 miles below ground that require finger prints, retinal scans, and vocal recognition systems that are checked, double checked, and triple checked at 4 different checkpoints before having to use 7 seperate physical keys, and two different 25-number combinations to access there office, where 128 character passwords are strictly enforced.
If someone owns something which is both desirable & dangerous (ie handguns, swimming pools, etc) they are required by either laws or insurance premiums to secure it.
This is why hot chicks walking down the street late at night in skimpy outfits are often ticketed.
I feel like when a new child is born someone should be standing there saying "anything you say or do can and will be used against you whenever possible" or something similar.
Yay! From now on call me l33t m4st3r robin hood, as I gallavant across a torrent of movies that I won't pay to see because Hollywood has already made enough money on them.
I'm just gonna assume anyone spending a good bit of money on data secure enough to be physically destroyed if compromised isn't gonna be the kind of person to make an "oops."
Just maybe.
Time fits together kinda like a jigsaw puzzle, anything that you go back in time to do has already happened....or something like that.
I wish I had the exact quote.
To be blunt, what the heck is wrong with you people? I mean seriously, whats wrong with playing video games? What's so mature about looking disdainfully down at your peers for enjoying things that you think are beneath you? In fact, what do you do for fun?
I mean, seriously, what do you do for fun? Also, how many people do you know who are 27 that can afford a house? Do you think you have a steady job that will last as long as the mortgage payments on a house that's worth living in for the amount of time to pay it off?
It sounds to me that maybe you just need to chill the out, you know? Play a little halo, maybe consider the fact that you're probably not the beacon of maturity you are insinuating that you are, and step off your damn maturity soapbox.
Clearly unethical? Like stem cell research is clearly unethical? Or more like homosexuality is clearly unethical?
There are people who would tell you eating pork is clearly unethical. You say the grandparent poster is splitting hairs, I say you're being too general.
While I'll agree with you that most people overreact to this sort of thing, and the kids *may* have been trying to help secure the network, how would they know it was insecure if they didn't try to hack it? Was it there job/business to hack the network without permission to see if it could be done?
It's true that if I thought my bank wasn't securing my money well enough, I might want to check it out, but I'm pretty sure sitting down one day, doing some random fund transfering, then transfering it back would make quite a few people unhappy.
It's not that they don't want us to know they are working together, they just don't want us to overhear them talking about cute boys while they're doing it.
While I respect your findings, I must offer my dissent. You must realize that the moment Windows includes every single "extra" you point out, there will be an outcry of "monopoly!" heard round the world. Last time I installed windows, it came with a browser, email, and IM btw...
I suppose what you might have meant to say is that Linux gives you choices of these extras, and were installed through various packages off the cd, which there were probably several of due to the added bulk of all the software you could ever need.
What sort of work do you do that requires IM btw? It seems to me that it might take 2 hours tops to install xp, an office suite, browser, e-mail, etc. , unless you count the updates, which you didn't mention (if you did I would understand more where you're coming from, updating sucks!).
A modern Linux distro practically installs and configures itself, comes with boatloads of software, and does not require an advanced degree to sit down and start using for everyday (non-development) purposes.
Umn... that really depends on the distro. Having friends who are gentoo advocates, I can promise you that some distro's aren't the kind of thing you can just download and install and run. On the other hand, mandrake^H^H^Hiva is about as basic as they come.
Overall, yes, some linux installs are easier than windows installs, assuming you like the bundled software. But then again, I happen to have Windows XP Install ISO that has been updated to SP2, which would GREATLY cut back on the install time.
250 G of what?
Seriously, if you're working with anything that takes up space like that, you should probably go out and just buy an extra hard drive, they aren't unreasonably expensive. How much do you think an external 6" DVD burner is gonna cost you in comparison to an extra 300G HD?
God, if they paid $100K+ a lecture think of the people could have instructing. Wow, imagine if teachers had 7 figure signing bonuses like professional atheletes.
Just imagine the flocks of "well motivated" people getting their degrees just so they can help the wee ones.
While I whole-heartedly agree that teachers deserve to get paid more, I think its way too easy to say "Oh, all we have to do is up the teacher salary and public education will hit a record high."
Currently being enrolled at a university, I have began to see the worth of comments. Unfortunately, good "commenting style" isn't really ever put into practice. To be specific, I'm currently in a class (Software Practium) which basically requires teams to do large volumes of work in short amounts of time. Comments aren't really mentioned... at all. Why? The time crunch. Having spent 14+ hours in a lab on several consecutive days just to bearly finish one phase of one project, I can tell you there isn't always time for comments in certain situations. Granted, I have looked at some things my teammates have done and just wondered "What the fuck..."
Its hard to show someone the effect of returning to code 5 moths later when classes only last about 3.
When's the last time you saw a human drive a car in all conditions? Or drive a car well in the same daily condition?
You must not live in an area with heavy traffic.
I was just thinking about how 25 I am while reading this comment. Also, who want's to be an adult?

Anything less can be comprimised.

Noone... ever.
I mean, sorry for your losses...
I'm just gonna assume anyone spending a good bit of money on data secure enough to be physically destroyed if compromised isn't gonna be the kind of person to make an "oops." Just maybe.
I dunno, I was thinking just the opposite. Sure, linux has the gonads, but windows has monads.
Home Theater with Decent Bandwidth: Film comes out here long before it's available at the Theater. Theater: Film comes out several weeks late.

Ok, so I'm not defending or condemning the Patriot Act here, but isn't that a little extreme?
How giving up your freedom to LIVE (an effect of rampant terrorism) to keep the ability to, whatever this bill would prevent, any different?
Hmn... so racehorses do have to pee really bad. Thanks for clearing that up.
