    For diabetics who still have some pancreatic function, and aren't wholly dependent on pills, maybe the results found from this research could help them.

    I think you meant dependent on injections. The pills in question would be to either boost insulin sensitivity (Useful for type 1 (no pancreatic function) and 2 (insufficient pancreatic function)) or boost pancreatic function (only useful for type 2). Injections provide insulin directly (required in type 1, used in type 2 if other options are insufficient or can't be used for other reasons).

    None of the X-prize stuff put anyone into orbit, they put them into space. There's a difference. Spaceshipone is not LEO capable, spaceshiptwo won't be either, and neither will spaceshipthree. They pretty much just fly pretty fast (about mach 3) at very high altitude (100+ km). To actually achieve LEO, you need to go about 3 times higher and about 8 times faster.

    Going by the site, Masten doesn't even have the aim of going into orbit, they're focused solely on suborbital work, which is useful for some things, but it's not gonna take you to a space station.

    ARIN didn't have anything to do with it. Those blocks were assigned before the RIRs even existed.

    1. Because those addresses were handed out back when there were not any provisions for reclaiming them.

    2. They are allocated in smaller blocks. This is IANA assigning address blocks to the Regional Internet Registries, which then assign smaller blocks out to whoever.

    The problem with that is the the issuing of IP space back when a lot of those were handed out have no provisions for auditing, use accountability, or reclamation. That means you're looking at a long ugly legal battle, and even if you do win, you buy a little less than one month per /8 reclaimed.

    And after all the kicking, screaming, hair-pulling, knock-down drag-out legal battles to reclaim those blocks, you buy a grand total of about 18 months.

    It's not worth it.

    Vitamin D deficiency tends to cause calcium deficiency. The body can't properly absorb calcium without vitamin D.

    Just because the processing/storage hardware is in the watch doesn't mean the display and input device has to be.

    Though their concept device looks to have about as much screen real estate as any current touch smartphone.

    The whole point of an SSL cert is supposed to be that someone, before issuing it, did some good old-fashioned sanity checking against the application and said, "yes, this person really IS the owner of the domain BankofSeattle.com"

    How are you supposed to make that process "free?"

    A simplest method I can think of would be to authenticate ownership of the domain via the contact information (easiest would be email address) on the domain registration.

    Actually, if you are logged in and check the post anonymously box, it will silently remove any moderation on that story.

    The only way to post and moderate in a story is to completely log out to post.

    I wonder what effect this is going to have on the implementation of SVG animation, which is part of gecko 1.9.3, which was to be used in 3.7. Is it going to be slotted into 3.6 sometime or will it get pushed to 4?

    Buying power. They can get a lot more supplies per dollar than you can.

    For example, the local food bank here can purchase about $1.50 worth of food for every $1.00 of donations as they buy in bulk and can purchase further up the supply chain.

    Text requires ridiculously little bandwidth compared to voice traffic, so it can tolerate a lot more degradation of service.

    With the amount of bandwidth-time required for 3 seconds of GSM voice traffic, you could send an entire novel worth of text.

    Covering a large but sparsely built up area perfectly is a lot easier than covering a small, but heavily built up area perfectly. Big buildings of radio-unfriendly materials like steel and concrete make a mess of things, requiring many more cells in unusual configurations, whereas coverage in open air is completely consistent and you can just throw down towers in a simple grid.

    Turn off SSID broadcast on the router and tell the neighbor the WiFi is off. It may be slight nuisance since you will have to configure your WiFi clients manually instead of picking the network from a menu, but most of them will remember the network, so you only have to do it once.

    That will not have the effect you think it has. It still shows up fine for clients, it just shows as "other network", "unknown network" or similar.

    Last time I saw a game, rugby players wear helmets, pads, and mouthguards. They're a completely different type than football equipment (scrum cap and limited light padding on the neck and shoulders), but they are worn.

    AFAICT, SVG animation won't be in until Gecko 1.9.3, which should be in Firefox 3.7. Not sure if there is anything for this in the 3.7 pre-alpha.

    Melamine isn't to whiten, it's for tricking nutritional tests. It makes the milk appear to have more protein.
