  2. It works better than any past edition for me. on Some Early Adopters Stung By Ubuntu's Karmic Koala · · Score: 1

I have used the previous 3 versions of Ubuntu on my desktop, and this is by far the best. It looks better, the "included" proprietary graphics drivers have improved, and wireless finally works with included ath5k drivers only requiring commenting out a blacklist statement rather than some convoluted solution like I usually have to go through. Flash operates on par with Windows now performance and appearance-wise. It is also faster in general with a better boot time. I keep thinking that Linux is just now finally truly ready for even the average user's home desktop. The jump from 9.04 to 9.10 was totally worth it though it only worked on the second try when doing the upgrade via the update manager.

  3. I had the same issue on Decent DVD-Ripping Solution For Linux? · · Score: 1

Days ago I realized that the built-in apps couldn't rip a DVD. My solution: http://pcprob.blogspot.com/2009/04/rip-encrypted-dvds-under-linux-ubuntu.html is geared toward Ubuntu. After installing lsdvd and ddrescue (1 command) you can rip any DVD to an iso with just 2 commands. This solution rips to one file, preserves all audio tracks (no sync issues), preserves all subtitles, and it is lossless.

On February 13, 2008, scientists announced that, according to Cassini data, Titan hosts "hundreds of times more natural gas and other liquid hydrocarbons than all the known oil and natural gas reserves on Earth."[47]. United States President George W. Bush announced shortly thereafter that Titan has been found to possess weapons of mass destruction, and will promptly be invaded by the United States in order to save Titan's hydrocarbon lakes from tyranny and spread galactic democracy. I think this particular location needs to clean up their operation.

    1. This was an accident at a fuel processing plant, and not a nuclear power plant. The NRC wouldn't allow this kind of crap at a power plant.
    2. Liquid HEU is not what your average plant uses. A land-based commercial plant usually uses rods packed with cylindrical Uranium pellets.
    3. I think there is an ulterior motive with this article because the UK recently had a fuel processing plant shut down because they had extremely poor safety (like gallons of radioactive liquid dripping on the floor for that were noticed and not cleaned up).
    4. When they say going critical, that's nukespeak for fission. That would mean local radioactivity and lots of heat...end of story. I sure wouldn't work at that place.

I learned from my job in the nuclear biz that critical means that a reactor is in an operational state where it is running (aka fission is going down and energy is being produced). Too much Jack Bauer has scared you people. I am a Software Engineer who sits in a cube next to a Criticality Engineer, and his work is plain old reactor engineering. This whole incident is about a plant that accidentally came online. I am laughing my A** off right now.
