  1. More intelligent animals on Researchers Identify Gene Involved in Regeneration · · Score: 0

Wait, if you cut a worm in two, it grows into two seperate beings? I'm doubtful (although what I've read on the net does suggest it's accurate), but assuming it's true (I can't be bothered looking it up in a book), I wonder how that would work in a smarter animal, such a mouse or a dog. Would anything the creature had learned, remain? COULD such a gene ever be placed into a more complex animal? The possibilities (and ramifications) could be astounding.

I'd keep it as a "wish list" at one particular site (and did for a while), but it didn't keep all the data I wanted. Besides which, no single website I buy from has all the books I want.

MS can of course ship any extension to any standard they feel like, except where limited by contract, as in the case of how they buggered Java.

And then get accused of not following standards. They try to work through a standards body this time and everyone says "But Microsoft's extensions can never ever become a standard. Why? Well, simply because we don't like Microsoft."

Right. So anytime Microsoft looks to add to an open-standard (you know, the thing open standards are meant to enable) they shouldn't be allowed? Wow, talk about openness. It's open for everyone, except those we dislike.

Yes, Microsoft does have a habit of destroying standards by extending them. But they're going to do this regardless. They might as well work through a standards committee, and there isn't any indication that this will result in a proprietry product becoming part of the standard. Is there any reason other then "Cause Microsoft is evil" to not consider adding this extension to the standard?

See, funny old me, I buy knives because of their utility, and would do the same for a purse if I brought one, along with digital cameras. I also buy cars (well, one at the moment, but it looked strange) based on how well it can get me from A to B, and how much it is likely to cost me to run.

Having said that, I respect the people who review his content to have the right to say what they want to, in reviewing the content.

criticizing the guy for asking for amazon to play by its own rules.

I don't know what rules these are, or how well they're enforced (for example, is it okay to write a "review" when your the author with the express purpose of flaming everyone else? I don't know, but Anne Rice did it). I expect Amazon's rules to be enforced as well in this case, as they do without the threat of a lawuit. He should just do what Anne Rice does, and beat people who say bad stuff about him to a pulp both online and offline. I'd also like to go on record as saying that if Anne Rice ever comes to Australia, I love her Jesus book. However if she doesn't ever come here, I wouldn't use it to wipe my ass.
