    Let's word that another way. If you're renting your house then can the warrant be served to the owner to seize all the contents in your house? What rights do you have over your contents. Aaah, but that would be treating IP (copyright in this case) as property, and the government doesn't have to do that. Only commoners do.

    It makes perfect sense if you want to migrate away from Gmail. I had a great reliable service that I was using before I used Gmail. I used gmail for a heavy-duty e-mail service, I was getting lots of e-mails (not spam) daily. That is no longer the case, therefore I no longer want Gmail but haven't been able to move my e-mails to Thunderbird. Now I can.

    What is to prevent the state of California from entering into reciprocal tax agreements with foreign governments to exchange the data?

    Nothing, but what if they tax based on where the web-server is located (e.g. if I as an Australian living in Australia locate my web-server in India and my customers get out of any Australian VOIP taxes) then they won't be able to engage in an agreement with EVERY single country that the web-server could be hosted on.

    culture wich forms the the way people speak and act. Do you really believe movies don't do that? Common culture gives people common ground for communication.

    Funnily enough my grandfather didn't watch many movies for quite a few years (he is partly deaf) and he was able to communicate with people fine. That might not be what you mean, but if it isn't I have no idea what your trying to get at.
