Basically if you get your bill and notice there is a change to ANY part of the contract or service agreement(Such as trying to force you to a different plan or changing procedures for billing) This is a change to the original contract you signed with the carrier. Look for your provider to bury changes to Terms of Service with your bill. Quite often providers modify their service plans, much of the time the modification is a benefit. It doesn't matter, this voids the previous contract. Read the small print on those inserts included with your bill, it will spell out that you have 30 days (may vary on where you live) to cancel your contract with no charge simply because they changed the contract.
Pay attention to how it tells you to cancel because sometimes that's very important. But remember if you pay that bill before this, most time it is look at as if you agree to the new changes and henceforth the new contract.
Even if its electronic billing does it matter, if you choose to cancel after a change before you pay your bill(paying your bill will automatically accept new terms)they cannot charge you for it. And yes all changes are to be either mailed to you with your bill or sent with your electronic bill. This is why automatic payments are stupid, you automatically accept all term changes.
Do you realize on average about 1 every 2 months there are changes to multiple things such as the privacy policy, contract and a number of other things that, if you don't agree with the changes, you can terminate your service without paying the fee. People don't pay attention to their bill so they don't realize when these things happen. Same thing for credit cards. They are basically changing the contract, which if you do not agree to the new contract, you don't have to live with it, and they can't make you pay for it.
All he should have to do is go before the judge/jury and present one sentance and be cleared:

They didn't screw anyone over..It is your choice to upgrade or downgrade you plan away from the Unlimited data plan. They are not forcing you to upgrade to a different phone. I am keeping my Iphone 3g/Unlimited plan until i am ready to move off the plan.. Then I will make the choice whether to stick with ATT or not at that time.. They didn't say you will have this option forever..And guess what when you contract expires, you will still be on the unlimited plan until you consciously choose to move to a different plan.
You do realize this isn't just because of the IPAD but also for all those users that will want the brand new Iphone 4G that will be announced last week. There is a reason they did it effective prior to June 7th(Iphone 4G announcement), because to get discount you will need to sign up for a new contract and with that they will move you to the new data plans, instead of being grandfathered in. That is unless you pay full price for the phone without a contract..
Oh what an insightful and witty comeback..Something i expect everyday from you Slashdot trolls. What you would like to speak more to people outside of your 450 "daytime" minutes, free night and weekend, free mobile to mobile? So here's my question..how many points in your rollover minute? Because with a family plan with 1400 minutes and 5 people calling I have an excess every month.. If you really need to talk more I suggest upping your talk plan. don't like it..Wait for privacy or contact rules to change then cancel your contract without a fee. Then you can go complain against Verizon or Sprint or one of the other carriers...OH WAIT, you just want to be a troll. enjoy being under that bridge and scaring all the little kids..
"Private corporations deciding for themselves what people should and should not view on the Internet?"
Wow you guys really are that gullible to see the logical explanation behind it, and not see multiple service providers we doing it because and attack..These providers aren't choosing what to and what not to show, they are protecting from attacks. Maybe someone should ship you off to the Communist People's Republic of China so you can really get a view of no rights.
"So, you prefer the mercury to be dispersed through the smoke stack of a coal fired power plant so that it will get into the atmosphere and then into the drinking water? This is what happens when you use a low efficiency bulb... Over the lifetime of the bulb the mercury emissions caused by the power usage are much higher than the amount of mercury that's (safely contained) in a CFL bulb."
Did you factor into that amount the energy usage for the CFL as well (While it may be lower there is still gonna be some mercury), What if i run my whole home on solar energy? Are you now assuming that people who run CFL's don't use coal energy.
We all talk about everyone recycling this things, but when I went to Home Depot, there was a total a three in the recycling bin, and after asking the manager, that box had not been emptied for 3 weeks..Recycling is only good when people do it. If there was not a refund for recycling aluminum cans, a whole lot less would get recycled..most people only do it when it benefits them.
Actually one click is to pause, 2 clicks is to forward to next track and 3 clicks is to back one song..and to get out of pause, just click it and it will resume
"Because in this economy there are plenty of folks out there that just ain't got it to spare, and you shouldn't have to shell out money simply to close an attack vector that shouldn't be there to begin with. They also make sure to bury the free version on their site so trying to find it is like trying to hit a needle in a haystack."
#1: It is only 50 for the paid version and you can continue to use the free trial through the whole year.
#2: Its not just closing out attack vectors, it is an all around cleanup of your pc, including dumping temp files, fixing reg errors, and also ways to optimize your PC, and a way better defragger the Windows provides.
#3: Bury it on their website, that's funny. Its right on the front page!
"And as for the other poster as for the website being a risk: You have never used Freeware World Team? Really? If you have to work with Windows it is the best site for free tools bar none. It easily beats Major Geeks and CNet thanks to the excellent search engine built in. With those other sites you have to know what you are looking for, but with FWT all you have to do is type in what you need a tool to do and they find you a free app that does it. And I have been using them for many years and there is no spyware, adware, malware, or viruses there. Just an easy to use website that helps you get the job done. Try it and I bet you'll like it."
Never said it was a risk, just that when speaking of a product, and with as many malware/spyware laden sites out there, some people would like a direct site. I know plenty of fix everything sites out there that takes a program like this, and will add on things such as Weatherbug and other nasty programs along with it. Primary site is always best, also because you get the free trial of their latest product, not one that's 2 years old.
Why not link to the Actual product website.. URL:http://www.tune-up.com/download/tu2009/ with the free new demo of Tune-Up Utilities 2009. This is a great tool to use, as i have used it for the last several years for many customers (Auto running the 1-click task while they are asleep) and have had only rare cases where more drastic measures need to be taken. That and they will usually give you a decent discount on the next years releases after you purchase their it (for example $15.00 dollars off 2009 version if you buy 2008's)
Not sure what BJ's s bust Costco is a membership store, just like Sam's club. In the contract that you sign when you get a membership, you waive away that right and you must follow their instructions or they will revoke you membership
Yeah i figured it was more anti windows/pro Linux fud posted here as usual. As long as they build the proprietary touchscreen interface for that system, i don't see any problems

Because in CA which is where the law you pointed out, Pedestrians cannot walk along highways or freeways unless otherwise stated.
But the shark just wanted to taste the rainbow!
If you don't know the difference between a data plan and a voice plan , then yes you are a freaking idiot
