I wanted to install my favorite niche physics package. I couldn't even figure out how to set the files to 777 through the GUI, I had to 'sudo chmod' them.
Oh and no 'su'? really? I mean 'sudo bash' isn't that hard but jeez I don't know if this is more secure, but it sure is harder to use. I think I'll install centos before going back to fedora.
Anyways, I fully suspect this guy's "solution" will be something like "We just used Flash and embedded it into these application 'runtime' thingablobs and then it was simply a matter of loading up the platform agnostic swf file." "Wait, what about the source code?" "Here's the source to the Reversi game. ahahaha did you seriously think we'd open source a runtime that'd put half of us out of a job???"
On the page he says it's Flash, so I don't see the huge importance or excitability of this.
What I get from the article is that he's (or they; it took a whole team) wrote a reversi game that adjusts itself to any screen size.
I am totally disappointed and unimpressed by this going on the title.
Except that it's not true. Companies will claim it's piracy hurting their sales or any other reason. Passive action doesn't work. Complaints to the company, the BBB and other instances, and class action lawsuits is what changes company policies.
That's java applets. Their integration with browsers is as poor as it was ten years ago.
But java applets are a tiny speckle of all things java, and not really representative of java as a whole.
They obviously don't have that right. The real fun is in watching him get shot without being involved. (Now if it only were real shots....) Cause frankly, who wants to identify with Bruce?
Maybe what you feel is the feedback of the gun instead, every time Bruce is shot.
It's not just about the market - it's also about the risks.
If they stay in China, sooner or later the Chinese government will gain full access to their servers (either by hacking or by confiscation), and with it all the information they want. Plus the search algorithms.
There is no DLC for movies, books or music. Imagine having the ability to buy additional scenes to the film. Or a better camera angle. I'd be pretty outraged. Similarly for a book - buying extra character dialogs or an additional page or two of adventure.
Personally, when I buy a game, and there is still tons of DLC, I don't feel like I bought the whole game. And games are already way too expensive in my opinion.
I tried Ubuntu, But I just can't.

You can still "sudo su -" if you really want it.
some /.ers correctly classified this as flashvertisment
Indeed.
Have you tried SimuTrans instead? I found it very challenging even on single player mode.

No, because the girls from Seventeen are all 18+.

"I would definitely fire anyone who specifies Oracle in my organisation."
Since you can't even spell organization, I doubt you're in a position to fire anyone at all... (grin)
It's correct spelling in British English.
Bad programmers are the problem..
Gullible management is the problem IMHO.
Isn't afternoon relative? Won't teenagers just stay up an hour later until eventually they have the same problems with 10 am as they do with 9 am now?

Agreed. China just wants to control everything because they rule by totalitarianism.
Fix'd.
The name of the game in american farming is efficiency. Reducing prices is the overall goal.
Here in Holland at least 90% of cattle are fed grasses, not corn. And we're at least 20 times more densely populated than America.
Your best bet are MUDs. Graphically, I wouldn't say they quite reach 3D levels, but you have far greater freedom and a really cool userbase.
Why not switch to IPv4.2?
i.e.: 9999.9999.9999.9999 instead of 9999.9999.9999.9999.9999.9999 or 255.255.255.255.
We'd have 9996000599960001 addresses, or 2327375 times as many as we do now, and the current addresses would still be valid and usable.
Once I installed Ubuntu some text we're randomly either really, really small and some we're huge.
I can see how the random text bug affects even your slashdot posts. That should definitely get fixed!
I did mean beer! stop nitpicking!
A growing number of textbooks come with online extras available only to those who buy the book new.
You are right. I should have made a clearer definition of DLC to only mean non-free DLC.
Free DLC is a good thing in my view.
"Many" is relative I think.

It makes me feel like a cow.
It can be deadly and still be successful, just so long as it's not very fast (e.g. HIV).
Except when they don't, like floppies, CDs, DVDs, BluRays, HDDs, dial-ups speeds, networks or any of the many other places where they don't.
How do they not "work" in powers of 2?
I think they're talking about Handegg (tm)
Why resort to namecalling? You had a perfectly good intelligent post otherwise.
Not to be a pain, but can you give the code to your example?
I understand your explanation, but having the code makes it easier for me to put a side by side comparison.
