Isn't anyone on the right concerned about e-voting and what it could mean for election integrity? Is it just that the left is more concious of bad elections because of the 2000 elections? Or are conservatives just automatically pro-corporate? I would think that anyone who calls themselves 'conservative' would be against meddling with the voting process without good reason...

Do you think writing, producing, or directing a film gives someone the copyright? They do if you paid for the movie yourself, or others gave you money for the film with no strings attached, but generally that is not the case. The only major filmmaker who owns his own work's copyright is Lucas. Even he doesn't own it directly, IIRC. For liability reasons, even small independent filmmakers work through a production company, and they own the copyrights. The grandparent poster is incorrect in saying the Weinsteins own the film - Miramax does.

From Moore's own site: © WESTSIDE PRODUCTIONS, LLC 2004 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

The trailers don't say the copyright, but they do say "A DOG EAT DOG FILMS PRODUCTION".

To the other poster who said that Lions Gate Films says it's ok to download, keep in mind that while LGF is the worldwide distributor, other companies have distribution in certain countries, and they might be pissed that Moore is saying "go download it".

Interesting suggestion, though sad that you'd have to do this. I suggest, however, that you get 'speed humps' instead. I know the name is a bit... funny, but they're basically like speed bumps, just wider and more gently sloped. They don't jar the car when you're going at slow speed, just when you go fast. Ordinary speed bumps make the car bounce at any speed, and would be annoying for residents as well, I imagine.

I sincerely doubt now there is a single "legal" human inside the US, everyone is guilty of something now, and it will keep getting worse.

You're probobly right. Here's an example of a perfectly normal person falling foul of a obscure 19-th century law: Police dispatcher fired for living with boyfriend (other sources here and here).

Apparently in North Carolina, there is a law against unmarried people "co-habitating", and the woman's employer(a conservative sheriff) decided all his employees needed to follow the letter of the law. According to WECT TV, "In late May she was called into her supervisor's office and told if she didn't marry her boyfriend or stop living with him, she would be fired. It's called cohabitation, which is illegal in North Carolina, thought is a law that is rarely enforced."

If something this common and accepted is illegal, and it only came to light because some redneck sheriff decided to enforce it out of sheer fundamentalist fervor, how many other laws are there on the books that you're breaking, right now? Remember that guy who was arrested for cussing in front of kids in Minnesota or someplace? Or the "miscegnation" laws prohibiting mixed-race couples? There are some odd laws out there, and while some are amusing, it's really horrifing to think that someone could look hard enough and find some law you're breaking without even knowing it.

Recently, with the war and all, I've taken more of an interest in military affairs. Lo and behold, the military publishes a lot of magazines and periodicals internally, and many of them are available free online! I like them because they don't have the macho posturing of rags like Soldier of Fortune and other right-wing civillian magazines, and read like professionals writing for other professionals on how to do their job better. Think Wired vs. Linux Journal.

    List of DoD magazines
Soldiers - Official army magazine, with full PDF archive.
Airman - Official air force magazine
    Marine - Official USMC magazine
Approach - Navael aviaton safety magazine
Ground Warrior - Marine training safety magazine
Infantry magazine - Army infantry magazine, article archive at findarticles.com
    Parameters - The U.S. War College's periodical

Soldiers, Airman, and Marine are sort of PR-related publications, so they aren't as interesting. Approach, Ground Warrior and Infantry are written as advice and information sources for their respective professions, so they have more technical detail. I like how they give a view of day-to-day operations in the military, especially training mishaps and other mistakes you don't hear about often. Parameters is a more scholarly magazine that gives a view into what the high-level officers are thinking and planning right now, plus some military history.

They're your tax dollars at work, may as well read them. Better to be an informed citizen than an entertained consumer, especially with the war in Iraq going on.
