Who said we can't? A corporation is a trust run by its board for its investors. Put the board in prison or its Chairman. That's what India and Russia do.
?? Debian as in Ubuntu? Pray, tell me where can i find this "defragmentation" tool in my Ubuntu AM64 distro? Because the damn swap file takes so much time to create each time that iam sick.
Exactly. Banks maintain a record of convicted and bankrupt individuals and do not hire them. Hell, if someone were to float a company and he's convicted of fraud or a felony, and he goes to bank to secure a loan for his company, he's refused! Even though legally both of them are separate individuals! Banks do maintain a central registry of such convicted felons. Why can't we, citizens, maintain an open source registry of convicted corporations so that we actively prevent them from setting up shop in our town or village?
Well, military is still 1st, but under Obama, NASA comes 2nd. He has made no secret of his plans to bring back the glory days to NASA. I hope it starts with a manned mission to Moon once again and then an ion-engine-driven trip to Mars. I learned a lot about Astronomy (my first and true love) from NASA. It will be a sad day when its budget is cut to make room for abstinence programs. But then, hey, Bush's IQ was single digit and he was a drunkard. What can you expect from him?
Am NOT denigrating NASA in any way. I had a relative working there. And i love astronomy a lot. I still remember the big grin on my face when i first saw the tiny rover on Mars, and java.sun.com crowing about how NASA chose its technology instead of Windows. I wanted to be an astronomer and at age of 15 when most boys where playing cricket or tennis, i was devouring books on Quasars and Pulsars. NASA's budget has been gradually reduced, while expectations of it has increased. Problem is that the bean counters have made it difficult to do any innovation while lawsuits have made it impossible for NASA to innovate.
It ought to be chaper than NASA (not just because NASA is a Government body): 1) These guys talk about multi-gear load lifting. Traditional rockets (like NASA Saturn V and even space shutle rockets) have been like one-gear cars. You have a great amount of power, but you waste a lot after you lift it up. These guys plan on a 4-speed car kinda thing. 2) Prices of raw materials and solid fuel are pretty much low. You don't need the special slush mix you used to earlier. 3) Advanced technology enables you to shave off a lot of unnecessary overheads and over-engineering..
Wow! You guys arereally fanatics i think. I had just questioned Obama's poll promises and his current strategy, and i get flamed... All right, he's the next best thing since sliced bread. OK? Happy now? Sheesh..
...but nothing ever "happens" under Obama? I mean, Obama "tried" to undo executive power grab, but now supports the same in Court. Obama "tried" to stop further bailouts, but now argues for the same. Obama "tried" out to stop DEA in states where drugs are legal, but fails... I mean, Obama is the perfect Manchurian Candidate. Isn't he? (and NO, am NOT a supporter of Rush. But I prefer Ron Paul over Obama anyday, and i prefer anybody over Bush.)
UK and India share the commonwealth policies: Child abuse, terrorism, murder extraditions. USA and India share the UN rules: --ditto--. Beyond that nothing much. Add to that the Election Commission is as fiercely independent as possible and competition pretty hot amongst politicians.
Net Neutrality is already a law since 2001 here (not many indians know this), and local providers who attempted to subvert it were quickly shut down by Telecom Ministry. However the maximum bandwidth is about 2Mbps anywhere for individual connections. 8Mbps is available for business connections. The remaining ISPs are wiser now. But the ISPs rally don't care what you do with it. Once you pay them about $112 per month for unlimited, they leave you alone.
The Central Banker whips errant banks into shape quickly (15 days maximum time to respond). I have used the facility to complain about 4 banks regarding personal loans, credit cards and fraud. All the time, when the local branch of Indian Fed "enquired" to the errant bank, they responded positively and either waived the excess charges or refunded deducted money or in one case sent me the original note of someone else's mortgage! Yeah, the Fed here is hard task master. Its officers are recruited from inside and from colleges. And the Governer is answerable to the Government every six months. It has a huge independence, and considers every bank to be a criminal unless the bank proves otherwise. Which means if you complain to the Fed about a particular bank's practices, you get default judgement many a time unless the bank manages to convince the Fed otherwise with proof acceptable to you(which means you get judgement).
Courts have become increasingly aggressive in dealing with cops violating rules and impose mandatory imprisonments and fines on them. (of course some elected officials shouted against this practice and threatened laws, but backed down when the court threatened them with contempt of court).
The local FOIA is like a bible to these guys. File a request and you can be guaranteed of information within 7 days. hell some even invite you to their office, share coffee with you, and send you with information. A couple of officials thought they were above FOIA, and the courts swiftly imprisoned them. Shook the esablishment so much that now they bend backwards to be open even without an FOIA. I was able to change the property tax evaluations, electricity information and charges just by talking to the commissioner about FOIA.
I hate it when the lawmakers make laws and then turn around, bare their brown bottoms to the public and state the laws don't apply to the lawmakers. Why doesn't the Supreme Court intervene and strike down these laws? After all even a 3rd world country like India has struck down PATRIOT acts, passes laws that prevent Police from making unannounced arrests, and convicts politicians.
don't just sit around and moan on slashdot. Become active, educate, make this an issue.
No. Did NOT just sit ariund and moan. In the country am presently, in, the Indian Government already has repealed the US-equivalent of PATRIOT Act and has no intention of bringing it back. Secondly, the parliment has passed a law that outlaws arrests by cops without due warning. Meaning, they can't just barge into my house, drag me away screaming with a no-knock warrant. They gotta serve me with a written paper detailing charged against me, wait for 15 days and if meanwhile the court doesn't stop, they can arrest me. Yes, the usual local neocons (lawyers) protested this saying it will help criminals escape. But the local protests supporting the law were a LOT HUGE overwhelming the neocons. As a result all political parties have started supporting it, since they risk losing their seats otherwise. Third, the Supreme Court has strongly supported the law and says it balances the rights and has said that even though the law will let a few criminals escape, it will allow many innocents avoid being arrested in first place. Talk about grassroots democracy!
As a first step, the cops should target one of their own for secret investigation. Will they do it? How would Peter Costello or Nathan Rees react if they were targeted for such an investigation? Why don't the politicians confiscate the super annuation of corrupt politicians? What prevents them passing such a law? And last of all, why are politicians around the world so intent on destroying the last shred of privacy of the Common man under the guise of terrorism? First USA (thanks Bush), UK, Australia, Germany and lastly even Canada. Why?
Hmmm... you are pretty young and a Bright Green at the gills. But anyway let me try to explain in a way even you can understand: Imagine driving one Model-T. Slow, clunky, takes a lot of effort to start, drives in fits, no power steering, and comes only in one color. Now, imagine harnessing about a dozen of them together and driving them. Will they be able to outrun a '58 Corvette? Will they be as comfortable as a Rolls Royce? Will they run as fast as a Ferrari on Steriods? Those dozen Model-T's represent Windows on a Mainframe. Got it?
Ah... the NHS: the envy of the world and the only stick with which to beat US. FYI, NHS was not created by Brown or even Blair. Hell it was created long back before these jokers grew out of their diapers. Signing the UN convention of rights of the child? That's like a cow's opinion: doesn't count. Creationism in UK? Look Here and and Here and and Here. Until you UK weenies come out strongly against the fascist policies of the UK government and roll back these changes OR elect a dynamic leader who does it, you guys ARE living under a modern Mussolini.
UK is a fascist dictatorship. But instead of one Mussolini, it is governed by elected MPs and thousands of unelected bureaucrats. Plus, those Neville chamberlains (citizens of UK) are perfectly content to be under such a benevolent dictatorship! Hell, next they will invite the Government to put up a webcam inside their bedrooms so that the Government can "monitor" their "activities" for safety purposes. Please don't compare US and UK. They both may speak English, but we have Obama. And they have Brown-:))
If your traditional landline is busy because you are listening to $6/min porn AND you want to dial 911 because you ate too much viagra, then you can't sue Comcast/Verizon because of your stupidity.

...yet stations such as WXLM-FM still carry the Rush Limbaugh freak show for FREE!...
Oh... sorry then.
I thought it was mass to orbit. Because the article kept saying it was a precusor to a low-earth orbit satellite.
No.
It takes close to 456,521 kilograms force to lift a weight of 7,000 Kg (Stage 1 Rocket).
Wow!
