I just installed Open Office and uninstalled it 3 hours later and reinstall MS Office 2000. If this is the way Sun and O/S community is trying to replace MS Office, they have a loooong way to go. MS Office 2000 is F-15A on steriods. Openoffice is a bit like the Messerschmitt Bf 109.
Print media may not be "hip" with latest information, but the views matter. I subscribe to print editions of TIME and Economist purely for the joy of reading the views. The way in which it is presented also matters, not just the bland headline stating "Lohan arrested for DUI". I guess that's why FOX news is popular than ABC or PBS. Secondly, a paper magazine allows me to lie down on couch or bed and read at lesuire. Thirdly, a paper magazine has readers letters, opinion, etc., all concise in 48-pages. Magazines may not provide latest information. But they do present an in-depth analysis absent in news.google.com
Actually you are right. I find beer more satisfying, and filling, than a mere coke (pepsi is for those with diabetes). But then schools can't sell beer. ! Wait they can sell the non-alcoholic variety.
Google may morph slowly into a privacy eating gorilla and then after a single public-relations fiasco (it still has a lot of enemies), it may turn more mellow like IBM or Microsoft. But die ??? Nope. Cringley says rejected ideas consortium inc., would kill google. I agree some ideas may have been good, but rejected. But overwhelmingly, good ideas do get done, like Microsoft Office. MS Office is THE fastest office package ever, because it so damn easy to use (after 2000, no real changes i agree). Excel was being used in real battle support during the Iraq war (initial days). iPod vs. other MP3?? I aint think so. iPod has a 85% market share. The rest ALL brands are combined as a generic products MP3. So i can buy a Rio, HP, Zune, and all are MP3.... What matters is Brand name... Google is fast becoming a verb, and once u become so generic, it is hard to remove your name from people's memory. U have a cash cow, if u know where to milk. Lets hope google keeps its focus on finding relevant information, and leave this office, etc., business to the experts.
If i were Bill Gates, i would say this to jack: "See ya in court. I have busted a multi-state lawsuit, defied the second most powerful economic power, i have more money than u have lived and live (counted in minutes) and i have the best defense lawyers in the country."
Its not a David vs Goliath fight at all.
Its a fight between a Minotaur (Jack)and Achilles (MSFT).
Iam rooting for MSFT. Halo is a GREAT game, and if this uneducated, double-digit-IQ mor0n thinks he can take down the single-largest-game of XBox 360, he is sadly, sadly, going to go down burning in flames.
Considering the aussies refused flights at night-time even during 2000 olympics, am surprised they agreed to this monstrous fuckin security.
I hope aussies turn out in large numbers at the airport to welcome this moron and then show their bare, brown asses to him when his motorcade passes by.
Yup. It will phone home using your precious 1,000 anytime minutes so fast u would get slapped with a $478.89 telephone bill next month from Cingular.
Of course, MSFT will initially deny they are responsible. Ballmer will even throw a chair at press reporters to prove his point.
1 year later and after making Cingular several million dollars richer, the AG's for NY, MA, CT and NH states would file a suit against MSFT for malpractices.
After one more year, MSFT will settle for $14.1 million. The lawyers would get the lion's share of the money, the state the remaining, and you and me would get a coupon worth $15 to be redeemed against Halo 4.
There is NO 2 year degree course in India. There is a 3-year bachelor's degree course and a 2-year masters degree. Apart from that there is a 4-year engineering degree.
I read a tale somewhere: A lion was terrorizing all the animals in the forest. It caught a mouse, shook him read bad and asked him: "Who's the king?" The fearful mouse answered: "You my lord". It continued to catch and shake deer, swans, foxes, etc., And then it met an elephant. With the usual dumb swagger (imagine Bush in this), it went up to the elephant, slapped him, and demanded who's the king? In answer, the elephant caught the Lion, threw him up and down for a few times, and then bored, threw him away 50 feet angrily. What did the Lion do? After the fall, it woke up, shook the dust, and told the elephant (same tone Bush uses to veto bills): "Hmmph. just because you don't know the answer does not mean you get angry."
Similarly, just because the private agenices are kicking NGIA's ass does not NGIA cries like a child and goes to mommy for protection.
If NGIA is a man, let it duel with the private agencies.
But then none of Bush's agencies, FCC, FTC, NGIA, CIA, FBI have the backbone for a straight discussion or fight.
And we still claim we are an open democracy and celebrate July 4 ! What an irony !
The famed Allies were being pummelled in Africa by Rommel in 1942. >>surreptitiously sending massive amounts of military supplies I beg your pardon, but sending one ship every month loaded with 4000 tonnes of war supplies does not exactly count as massive, especially when that much was being used by USSR troops in a day.
>>but they wouldn't have stood a chance if the other Allies weren't there I do not wish to belittle the allied contribution, but in 1944 (by Normandy time), the USSR forces were rolling towards Moscow on their own and were capable of defeating Wehrmacht by themselves as acknowledged by Eisenhower himself.
El Alamein, the much-praised British victory in north Africa, was a mere pub brawl compared with the battles of Stalingrad.
USSR had broken the wehrmacht's steel backbone before US stepped in. And USSR had to send in every man, child because their homeland was invaded and occupied, you mor*n ! If US homeland had been "entered into", am damn sure we would through all the Geneva conventions to wind and send in 5-10 yrs old... (heck even before that, we have started Gitmo, etc) So stop piggy backing on the high horse and do not even compare the casualities USSR faced with that of self-inflicted wounds like Vietnam and Iraq (now).
No you joker. The parent meant spanish. Anyways, English is being outlawed in India slowly, and the famed education is being replaced by politicians... There are two ways to accomplish things: 1) Do them yourself. 2) Challenge your politicians to dare do it.
Wise presidents have always known that space exploration is just a money sink hole that returns little useful results for the amount of expense.
Wiser presidents have known illegal wars are a much more waste of money, and in addition to costing more than 20 moonshots, they also take the lives of thousands of young people.
It's basically a welfare program for unemployable aerospace scientists and technicians
So is the illegal war a welfare program for lockheed, KBR, etc? Seriously are u a conservative? Are u card-carrying republican?
Will that mean i can use my a billing address in India and buy music? Does DRM-free mean iam free to buy music from US iTunes store even if am residing in Australia or worse Iceland?
Until that happens, all this DRM-free crap is just marketing.
>>Google has to keep growing to justify their P/E ratio of 47 and keep their stockholders happy
Google has no such duty. The stockholders are preferred stock. They can either wait for the dividend or dump it. No other option/rights to they have, except to be paid before commonstock holders when google is wound up. Google was smart and forward thinking. 5 years from now when its shareholders clamor for board change due to bad losses, google's board can show the finger to them as they can't even sue to get results.
The fact that you can buy a gun in VA does NOT mean you can go around firing at will. Get your as$ correct first. The ruling only states that IF i have bought a DVD (first or second sale), i can watch the contents of it WITHOUT needing the DVD in the same place where i watch. Meaning i can rip DS9 , and watch it on my iBook in a flight between LAX and NYC. I don;t need the DVD to be present in-flight. What the ruling does NOT mean is distributing it delibrately to others to induce them to watch without having bought the license to that content in first place. It is moro*s like you who are responsible for Hatch submitting the INDUCE Act in first place.
If i were a shareholder, i would expect google to finetune the division and make it a sort of privileged customer banking.
Lets see how google reacts. Following are the options available: 1. If it wants to not become another faceless-souless corporation, it will shut down the division. This will make it lose money, thus inviting probable lawsuits from shareholders. Since the shareholders are not common stock, their suit will not have merit and is likely to be dismissed. 2. It continues with the division, albeit secretly, much like as in "Liar's Poker" profits will increase but customers will migrate...Shareholders will be happy next one year, in long run google will suffer. 3. Third choice would be to publicize the division's secrets at the same time prevent such things from happening. This will throw the search-engine optimization into a tizzy, as their dark deeds come to light. It will also make them think google will buy them out if they find more ways to debunk the search engine. Long term effect will be good for google. Short term: None.

Good suggestion. A slight change: 1. Have legal iTunes downloads of songs and movies. 2. Convert them to Audio CD/DVD legally. 3. Rip those audio CDs and store them as specified above. 4. Provide enough tantalising teasers to RIAA to pounce on you. 5. Let them drag it to court. 6. In front of the judge, prove that you own licenses to those content 7. Prove you were just storing them safely and not with an intent to share. 8. Watch and judge fume at RIAA's stupidity. 9. ! Profit !

Do you know the level of support IBM can throw in if you are the admin of an AIX for a $40 billion bank?

Yup. I agree. "Undercover Economist" is far for informative and interesting, although written from a London persective.
