    well ok 100 sounds too much :)

    what I meant is that he takes lots of hits to his head directly or indirectly ... from falls from hits, from kicks ...

    he also goes rafting, and rides speedbikes ....

    so he has hard impacts/hits on his head and tha's why he is afraid to do the surgery that weakens the eye against phisycal abuse

    one thing to keep in mind :I heard it from a friend:

    supposedly it weakens some parts of your eye (dunno exaclty which) and if your head receives big hits (eg you do motocross, martial arts or just get beaten up frequently) there is a chance that your eye just pops out and pours out ...

    a friend who is a kempo teacher told me that, it worths a research...

    i think it also depends how bad your eye is .. he is almost blind without glasses/lens but he won't go with the operation since he gets kicked in the head 100 times a week ...

    While the typical windows user likes his crap preinstalled, most linux users order their machines without os (or actually put their servers/machines together from parts)

    -and then just download the favourite distro, or RE-use a purchased distro CD set again...

    I would never buy a linux preinstalled machine, but every laptop I bought came with windows preinstalled (even that I tried to get a discount and offered to wipe the OS in front of the sales person and hand ALL bundled windows software back to where it came from ....

    Actually in hungary there is a law, that prohibits selling a machine without an OS (they say it is to cut off piracy I say it is to make people buy their windows ) on the other hand now stores preinstall free dos (floppy in, format c: /u /s) so people can have a legal choice of "no os"

    the funny thing is that I saw most of the kids -who I went to punk concerts wit-h at raves and even d&b events .....

    yeah sheeps suck ... on the other hand you have to be a sheep for some time until you find yourself ....

    I was into everything before I kind of settled with electronic music (listening for 10 years now)

    I still love aggressive guitar music ... from DK to pistols, from sublime to blink 182 ....

    Good music is good music ... damn I even listen to classical sometimes .... I just cannot stand Opera ... -not the browser-

    I am not a revenge personality - definetely not.

    But I would donate a little of my otherwise sucky bandwidth for the good purpose to DDOS any server/provider that hosts kiddie porn.

    I am fine with porn, gambling, pharmacies, adult dating.... damn i even accept (pee-poo-sex sites if someone needs them), but KIDDIE Pr0n should be off the net!

    would someone sue me for DDOS-ing a site like this? Governments/law enforcement should thank people who take sites off like them ...

    Or hold cracking contests on these sites ! I am sure some governments would even donate a grand prize if you take off sites like that (especially if you manage to steal some data that leads to the owners/anyone related)

    Ahm did I forget to say ACID (such as early Paul Oakenfold - Brain to MIDI) ... that is electronica but waaay under-ground for regular techno fans ..

    And what if I am a Linux user, and a surfer/offroader/beach-bum ? There comes Sublime, and popular skate Rock ... yes tha poll is a joke.... I like british people but they have a very different taste in music even compared to the rest of europe ....

    I do not know, I might live in the stone ages, but for me IRC is still the standard IM.
    What we would need is just an authenticated IRC, so you could have your screen name left alone.

    NO one implemented channels the way IRC did, and that is the most kick-ass feature of all IM messaging .

    Videoconference? flashy html messages? animated smileys? sending pictures right into my face ?
    I mean people ! seriously, send an URL, do not waste bandwidth , talk text ...

    ahm yes I use AIM too, and use less IRC, but it is all because of my technically disabled business partners who cannot type /server irc.blablabla.com /msg dindi

    in new clients you do not even have to type (just the message)

    you have encryption, dcc chat, whatever you want ...

    ahm even better: YOU can set up your IRC server in the workplace (even for remote workers over an encrypted tunnel)

    than no BIG BROTHA is reading your "hey we have to do some cosmetics on our tax report" company messages ...

    I am amazed how many companies are IM-ing sensitive information unencrypted over MSN/AOL/YAHOO ... including passwords and stuff ...

    Not because they are bad or anything, but every configuration tool has it's limits, and usually if you have control over a server you WANT CONTORL over a server, otherwise you run windows and just clickaround .. (pcanywhere or some other horror no-dialup bw sucking monster.)

    Anyway, so you install the newest apache, or ipfw, or ipchains or iptables, and you just realise that there is no option for that tiny special bit of config input that you need in webmin or whatever else you try....

    so you (ME always) end up ssh-ing and just vi /usr/local/etc/ or mcedit -ing it

    on the other hand I would say webmin is pretty decent .... and not really a config tool, but APT is your friend on a remote server where there are no handy CD-s (I would mention BSD ports system to, even better than APT (DO NOT FLAME ME FOR THAT - I love apt too))

    I wish more people were using them so the prices would go down a bit ...

    Also it would be nice to have a dat drive in every household so you could walk around with a disposable data storage device ..... I just hate dragging a HDD around .... also for *NIX users it is just a nice thing to TAR straight onto the tape.......

    I think they are not popular since you have to work a bit more with that sequential access thing ... nut just drop into a dir and run stuff ...

    tapes rule .... but $600+ for a 12gig drive ... hmmm .... that is prices for me .... and 1200+ for a 36 GIG drive ....

    I am actually experimenting now on myself with a myostatin blocker. It is commercially available from
    Cytodyne Technologies (same company who sells Xenadrine an Ephedra based (lately in the US ephedra free fat burner))

    Anyway, the product is called Myo-Blast CSP^3.
    Anyone interested might consider Juiced Protein from Pinnacle (pretty OK taste compared to other protein shakes)

    Why ? Why not. I am not a Gym freak, but I do st 45-60 minutes weight training +
    40-60 minutes cardio /day (good to rent an office with Gym use included ;) )

    While I am against steroids I happily take an algae based product or bioengineered protein
    as a little experiment - at the end probably they makes less harm than a bigmac :>

    ahm + I am a vegetarian who does lotsa sports so extra protein is welcome ....

    for those who might wonder: myostatin is responsible for skeletal muscle! Your tongue, and your heart muscle won't grow bigger than it is if you block that enzyme (I hope it really)

    My father in law just borrowed my bag, and he went thru the US (only transit).

    When he arrived he noticed something not right about the luggage. He opened the bag, and he found a note stating that the bag was forced open (my locks look like shit on my samsonite suitcase) due to new US regulations.

    WHAT PRIVACY ? Now the US has the right to look into my underwear even if I do not go to the US ?
    This is ridiculous, forget about your privacy if you live there. I just cancelled my trip to the US, I just do not want to deal with shit like that, I better go to south america now, I feel safer, and no-one goes thru my private things in my baggage (or at least I have the right to be present) ....

    Probably I am not alone with that, but I feel kinda spaced out every time I stand up from my 6-8 hours of screen-staring sessions and sit in a car ....

    I can feel it even more when I ride my (motor)bike after using the computer for a long time ....

    I think people need something "to not stare at" after a long drive .... maybe free massages ... swimming pools ?

    While My friends are very open to all new web stuff, I noticed, that no one accepted my orkut invitation from hotmail...

    Actually someone told, they never got my invitation.

    Anyone knows if hotmail is blocking ourkut too ?
    Due to privacy issues I am not willing to open anything with MSN/HOtMAIL/M$, and none of my friends are using that spamhole service anymore ..

    Redirect ALL mails for the account to somewhere
    *@domain.tld -> your other account

    every time you register, you put the domain in the email : eg
    slashdot.org@domain.tld
    and TADAAAA .. you know who spammed you ...

    I work with pharmacies, debt management, sometimes casinos ... so SPAM and privacy is a concern of mine ..... anyway I always know who's ass to kick when SPAM arrives

    not that i want to advise you set up 200 proxies and poll slashdot every 2 seconds, but if you are a slashdot head you might want let's say 2-3 machines with wget:) or just nphproxy or tinyproxy ..

    or you can always access http://slashdot.org/palm/ that is lightweight .. (It works nice on a pda and does not have refresh restrictions)

    I am sure if you actually subscribe to slashdot they would cancel the RSS hourly limit RIGHT ? RIIIGGHHTTT?? :)

    Out of sync ? LATE ?

    People! Your aggregator might be out of sync, not the website RSS feed.
    If you update the sources every 5 minutes it is still better than reloading the whole site every 5 minutes (and some sites have update time policies eg every 10 mins)
    The feed most likely comes from the same db and as so it is not outdated.

    Useful ? well if you use a PDA over a GPRS link, it is really cool to have just headlines that consume a few bytes, instead of loading 20 websites with all the ads and gfx (could be megabytes)

    I think it is a cool thing, and even if you do not have a decent aggregator you can sed and grep and awk it to assemble a desired format ...

    just my 1cent opinion :)

    Probably everyone knows that Win*
    -likes to crash,
    -loves to host virueses and parasites
    -as fexible as a rusty metalpipe
    -costs shitload of money (you HAVE to buy it with certain hardware eg my IPAQ, or my Toshiba laptop)
    -insecure ...
    etc etc etc ..
    -I just hate BILL for putting OS/2 outta business!!

    For me:
    -I work for myself, eg I do not want downtime because of stupid forced upgrades and virus catastrophy

    -I love linux and I love X (no it is not a geek love or something, I just love how I can form everything to my working taste/speed, and disable unusual features, and enable (maybe even more unuseful) ones that i like ...

    -most of the time I work on remote terminals via SSH and though putty and alike are cool apps, it is just more clear to talk unix to unix (yeah, yeah stupid reason, but i just feel like this is the right thing)

    -linux is tha base for LAMP ant that's what my services/business is running on - though I recently moved everything to FreeBSD (due to redhat dropping poor customers on the server side and Debian not being an option at the mopment of the decision)

    ON my PDA: it just bugged me that i could not find a decent SSH client, a decent fetchmail app, a decent traceroute/mtr .. and I lacked a wget, bash etc etc etc ... to have with me all the time ....

    +I wanted to rotate the screen reliably, and have
    tabbed browsing on my pda for my morning sitting-on-the-toilet-reading-news coffeetime sessions ...

    On the other hand I wrote my diploma a few years ago on Using Linux as a software alternative in a production environment and out of the cca 150 pages I have a bunch talking about why you should in general avoid non open source and even more avoid non GPL stuff
    Sorry it is in hungarian btw ...

    naah ....
    what prevents you to install your apps with a different prefix if you think it is the good thing ? ./configure --prefix=/whatever/programname

    keeping the /usr or /usr/local does not make a sense maybe on a home linux box ...

    but when you have remote mounted filesystems, and you are organised enough to care about what belongs to the system and what is an application you installed and what belongs to the system ...

    making backups/reinstalls/upgrades is a lot better when you know what belongs to eg system, and what might be better just to reinstall and dump the backed up /usr/local/etc on it ...

    i just started working with BSD, and I see how organised it is compared to my previous experiences (mostly linux (deb/rh) and solaris) .. and while getting used to moslty edit stuff in /usr/local/etc/ broke my balls at the beginning, with a little bit of thinking now it absolutely makes sense to me .... (though i like system V rc stuff a lot better - but that's an other story)

    i use mc, non of the other shiny unusable stuff ...

    but don't you at the end always end-up typing something to move/tar/cp files ?

    My favourite example is when you try to copy a directory to a FAT filesystem (eg a cf card for my camera or PDA) and I end up typing
    cp -r because mc and others just freak out because they cannot set/preserve permissions on the FAT ?

    I ALWAYS end up typing things when solving even simple file copy stuff ..
    DAMN I am even typing that message right now :)

    on the other hand : I definetely do not drag&drop files

    while i agree with most i do not agree with the violence line -------

    The same is true of violence and violent media. Watch violent media, and you're more likely to be aggressive. If you do something like punch a pillow or whatnot when you're pissed off, you'll just get more pissed off (but maybe fell a little better).

    ----------- When i feel violent, or aggressive I hop on my bike (or on my wife's ATV), and go for an aggressive offroad ride .... or occasionally go out in the garden and shoot out 100 bb bullets at a tin can (good to have a repeater bb gun) Or load up some killing aggressive stuff into my playstation or xbox and kick/shoot/hit the crap out of some virtual enemy ... I also did martial arts before (judo) and all it did is calmed me down .. I just might been different with that, but i think it is possible to direct aggression in a way where it end up being harmless and makes it go away ...

    Now seriously people what is better ?

    Healthy people + the weirdos spanking the monkey occasionally (or everyday:) ) ... or the healthy people suffering with an expoding wiener + weirdos running around raping everyone in sight ....

    I think porn is healty (I am not talking about sado/sodomist/kiddie/raping stuff - just "normal" porn movies ), and wives and husbands should take a walk to the videorental booth/machine/whatever and play with a dildo or whatever fits instead of cheating on the SO or going after hookers ...

    it is the same as videogames, i do not think it creates bad stuff (more rape eg.), and i think lot's of people can releive their "dirty" fantasies instead of causing harm in real life .....

    all this antiporn crap bothers me, of course i do not want (my non existent) 5 year old kid to watch porn, but i find it ridiculous that the whole US is making a scandal of a TIT, while in europe you can see TITS all day on TV, all day at beaches, damn even public baths have a sun terrace when all the girls are topless ....

    i am not going to get into details since last time when i told people SHOULD IGNORE patents like this i got modded down like hell ...

    anyway, I have to tell it again, that whoever accepts and enforces patents like that is a MORON ...
    any application that uses a "whel like" patent should be reverse engineered, decompiled and rewritten open source with a distribution source that cannot be shut down by authorities that enforce/approve crap like that ...

    common knowledge methods, filesystems, and document formats should not be copyrighted and accepted copyright for ....
