    One does not exclude the other. You can use a hammer to drive in a nail or you can use a nailgun.

    And sometimes I use a a mechanical device to get to places. Sure, if the sole purpose is to not to learn to walk, then using a motorized weelchair is a bad idea. If it is because somebody does not have the ability to learn how to walk then it is a blessing.

    Indeed people who use things exclusively won't be able to learn the skill of the feel for numbers, just like people who drive cars exclusively never learned how to ride a horse.

    And theat is your problem right there. Computers should work how I want it. I should not work how computers want it.

    Obviously not everybody wants to work the same way and that is why there are different desktops. KDE for one and GNOME for another. I prefer XFCE and Windowmaker. Yet somebody else will want to use something else.

    So if they see there is a market, why kill off something that was liked by many? Why do the thing that people dislike from Apple and Microsoft and force people to adapt the way they work?
    Sure, you could say that the source is available and that you could still use it. That is like saying there are girls out there and all you have to do is talk to them to get a relationship.

    Easy for some, unpossible for others.

    What you will see is the same shows all over again. Some subtitled, some spoken in another language.
    OK, some might be with different people as they only sold the format.

    If you haven't turned the TV on in five years, how can you know the shows aren't worth watching?

    I watch shows from all over the world that will most likely never be shown in my country. Guess how that is possible.

    Unfortunately it won't piss off enough people. You perhaps can't fool all the people all the time, but you only need to fool enough of them.

    The abuse of power has not reached its peak yet. Not even close. It is going to get much worse. This also means when people are fed up with it, the American Revolution will look like a tea party.

    I think in 25 to 50 years. This is what history has thought me.

    Reminds me of the case in Belgium where in the morning providers where blocking thepiratebay.org and in the afternoon all traffic was directed to http://depiraatbaai.be/ which is basically the same site.
    And done in such a nice way that people don't even had to do anything.

    They keep using the word Intellectual, but I don't think it means what they think it means.

    Why bother indeed. When I look at my mailfolders, I try to think on my personal mail when the last time was that I actually searched for something older then one year,

    Mails that I keep are orders I placed and passwords that I requested. All the rest I delete after one year.

    I already do a lot of deleting after reading already. e.g. most mailing lists will be deleted almost immediately. Things I keep are bug reports I filed, till they are closed.

    This is something I do in real life as well. If I have not used something in a year and there is no emotional value, I will trow it away. Even though it is technically possible to keep everything, I see no reason to do so.

    In Belgium you can still buy phones that are not locked in and you did not buy from a carrier. You have stores that sell insurance on your phone, so a stolen phone does not mean an extra sale.

    Still they do not use it very often for various reasons. It costs money to put a phone on the list and with the lifetime of a phone model it is not interesting enough. Also it is trivial to change the IMEI number.

    If I were a criminal in Australia, I would start an IMEI change chop. People assume your phones are not stolen as it is unpossible to use the phone. Let them make a phonecall with their sim card and they will know it works.

    TFA might do that but TFS is supposed to be written by editors.
    Editing these things should be one of their tasks, but that is work and they rather copy and paste and be done with it.

    Your piracy is only ultimately 'costing' the overall economy anything if you then reduce your working hours and take a pay cut that exactly offsets the money you would otherwise have spent on music.

    And even this is only true in part.
    If 10 people take a 10% cut in working hours, it would mean that a 10th person who has no job will be able to get one now. In Europe this would mean a reduction in unemployment benefits. That money would become available to the state or could mean reduced taxes. That makes everybody better off.

    The same could be said for food.

    They use it themselves.
    Although on other sources the 'a patchy' server was the origin and when it was pointed out that it sounded like 'Apache' they used that and Apache now denies that to be true.

    He might have been impressed by the coding. But that does not mean it was what they were looking for. Sometimes they also look at somebody who will fit in the team as well. Or who isn't that extremely good.

    Being overqualified might not land you the job, because they are afraid you leave as soon as you have a better opportunity.
    Sometimes it is just a 'feeling' whether they choose you or somebody else.

    A job interview is basically a sales pitch. They are buying. If you have no peoples skill, train to do it. Ask people to interview you. The pitch starts with the CV/ It does not end with the signing of the contract, although you can relax a bit then.

    What do you want them to think about you. What questions do you have. One standard questions will be what your positive points are and what your negative ones are.
    Know what your positive points are beside the obvious one tha you are able to program. Know also what your negatives ones are and let them know that you are aware of them and how you deal with them. Use examples.

    Ask others what your negative ones are.

    And remember, most of the time you will be first talking to somebody from HR who have absolutely no idea what a PC is. Not even if they work for an IT company.

    Last but not least, don't be disappointed if they don't hire you. For whatever reason you were not a good match.

    But when you're still providing us with Windows XP in 2011, you are doing it wrong.

    There you go doing the job of IT. I personaly do not care if I would still be running Windows 3.1. If it meets the requirements I have set to do my job, I am fine with it.
    It is not my job to tell them how they should work. The important thing is that they should also not tell ME how to do mine.

    There once was a great photographer who went to eat at a famous restaurateur. After a great dinner the chef came to the photographer and said : "I have seen your pictures, you must have a great camera."
    The photographer said : "Wow, this was the best meal I ever had, you must have a great kitchen."

    Taking pictures is not about the camera.

    If anything, I would go with the most simpelest of camera's. No zoom or other things to mess around with. It will force you to look at the subject and imagine what goes where.

    Once you are able to do that, you will know what kind of camera will be best for you.
