I agree. It isn't sad that a person writes a follow up. It is sad that only one person is allowed to do so.

When I was young, an ongoing joke was the question 'Is fertility passed on by the parents." Now you could start asking that question. Also there is a trend of finding slimmer women more attractive. In the past this ment that those would be having more children.

However with the pill and other contraceptives, it looks as if the most attractive (in a biological way) females have LESS babies.

The result of this all will be that we have a lot of ugly kids. Perhaps the division becomes so great that we will separate as species and become two.

Everyone knows that news outlets are 95% of time totally correct. The other 5% of the time, its stuff I know about.

I once asked a internet magazine in Belgium why they would print all the wrong information. Their asnwer was that the people who knew the right answers would not read it and people who don't would not mind.
They also 'tested' speed to and from providers while they had only one single account they recieved for free from a provider.

Strangely enough that provider was always the fastest. What they did was just a ping to the providers website. Uncompetent!

The hardware tests they did were basicaly copy and paste from the press releases.

A newspaper I once contacted to pint out that the story they published was untrue was answerd by 'we can not release the source of our information'.

In all honesty that same newspaper interviewed me once. They re-read the interview, did the changes I requested and almost verbatim placed it in their newspaper. The trick with talking to journmalists is that you must know what you want to say and then say it as if you were talking to a 6 year old. Short centences. Not using the word 'no' also helps.

Just say what you want. I did not ignore the question, but looked at it not as something I needed to answer, but rather take the subject and comment on that subject.

If all these geeks are so smart, could they not figure that out themselves?

If you want to be accepted by another social group, you will need to 'fit in'. That means you will need to go take a haircut, shave and take a shower once in a while. Also buy some differnt clothes to wear once in a while. Analyze, if you will, what other people wear and why and just copy that.

Looking good does not mean you can't remember how to write perl.

Yes, I do think about what clothes I am wearing each day and what I want to bring across. During my work I wear something else then during my evenings out or to a Linux convention. To me it the clothes and such are just a tool to achieve what I want to achieve. Even my facial hair is influenced by what other people think and say. It is not importand to me, but apparently it is to others. As it is not importand to me, why should I care wether I shave, have a goatie or a long beard?

Actually, yes. Well-preserved printed books can and do last for centuries.

Well, there you have the reason why publishing houses are so against it. What clearly must happen is that the lifespan of books must be shorter AND extend the copyright on them much longer.

That way you and the people after you will have to buy a new version every time. Imagine that you are able to read a book in a few hundred years without buying the book. That would mean the writer would not get his share. This is all just for protecting the writers. Seriously.

Now you see that Shakespear does not get any money any more because he is not protected by copyright and as a result he has stopped writing. As a result of not having an income he DIED. Not having unlimited copyright kills people.

HR is not worthless, it is just that they should not do the shifting of the jobs. They think it is a service and an obligation to do this for the rest of the company.

    The ideal solution is:
    1) selection by the department. Get down to e.g. 10 people you want to see)
    2) First interview by the department and somebody from HR.

HR do have people (or should have people) who can ask better questions about personality and notice often better if that are any holes in their story. They do not know what kind of skills that person needs and won't know what kind of person you are looking for. No matter how often you explain it to them. Not their fold they can not look into your head.

It is as if you say that you like blondes and the one you marry is a brunette. Sometimes you see a combination of things that makes it overrule the things you said before and it would be a pitty if that one you would never meet, because somebody says "he does not like brunettes".

Same with the shifting by HR. You might find the ideal person in the pile that they trow away.

Sell this to HR as doing them a favour by taking some workload of their back without costing them money or budget.

People can change their interests and I rather have somebody who has experience in sales and then went into then somebody who only knows coding. The first might understand our customers need and how to react to it, the second might not.

As we generally ask several people to come to the job interview, they will both have an equal chance, but I will see to it that there is at least one that has a mixed working experience and (from memory) they have a higher chance of actually being hired.

But then we want to hire people who are also able to fit in the group and are able to communicate. We are not offended by people who just want to do their job and not communicate with anybody and just code. It is just that you won't like it with us.
