Why is this flamebait? Apple's claim to fame is changing their direction to stay "cool". They do this with their hardware and their software.
OS X/Carbon etc is a total departure from their old APIs and OS. How can developers trust that OS Y won't wreck everything you just learned about Macs on OSX?
The only people that could have helped these guys were Linux Gamers. Where either a) there aren't enough of them, or b) they're not used to having to actually pay for software, c) they didn't like the games Loki did.
whichever it is... the market has decided.
Hmm, let's see how long it takes for this to get modded down...
I wonder if the "theif" would be able to charge the real owner of the machine with anything.
With what? Tresspassing or some other computer crime. The "owner" hacked into a remote machine to see if it was his, and get information about the alleged crook so that he could help out the police.
Isn't that kind of like breaking into someones house when they're not home, because you think they stole your bike? Even worse, he then *maliciously* wipes the guys computer clean!!
Imagine the same story, but at the end, you found out it wasn't really his computer in the first place.
I think we need an online service, that lets you write letters to politicians.
I.e. You get an online interface, a simple text box in which you can write your complaint, and a list of politicians from which you can select (or even multi-select/mail-merge).
The service charges for postage/consumables via paypal, and someone then looks after printing your letter, and mailing it to the appropriate person.
That makes bitching convenient, which is what lazy/.ers want. It also makes their bitching more effective, which is something/. doesn't offer.
And now that you've posted this brilliant scheme, Universal has only to reword their return policy:
"All retailers are encouraged to give refunds for opened products, provided that the following form is filled in completely by the customer for each product being returned, with a description of the problem encountered."
The gun has 3 barrels at the end (I assume for a multi-shot rocket ala UT's multi-rocket launcher). Also, just to the left of the (G) is a plunger (presumably for loading the barrels)
There are a lot of good reasons NOT to send Word attachments, and no good reasons to send them.
Hmmm, no good reasons to send Word attachments? How about formatting, tables, graphics, password-protection, spelling/grammar checking, highlighting, correction/collaboration. All supported by the fact that (as RMS admits) most computer users can read Word documents - even if it's a scaled down Wordpad reader.
Gawd... how sad... boycotting a company because they're protecting their trademark.
The reason KIllustrator was named what it was named was that so you would instantly recognize it as being a free knock-off of an Adobe product.
It's like how "Kam" sounds enough like "Spam" for you to know right off the bat that it's a similar product.
There are two reasons I can thing of for the KDE guys do this:
1) They think it's clever, like all the recursive GNU names... fair enuff.
2) They don't spend any time/money on marketing, so they have no other way to let you know what their product does before you try it, or browse specifically for it.
So in short, the KDE guys are piggy-backing on trademarks to publicize their functional-equivalent products - which in my books, isn't right.
Without getting too deep in the philosophy of education and the benefits it has for society, isn't it _obvious_ that universities should be "open source" as it were.
The reward people at university get from creating wonderful things is _recognition_. They get paid by the University so that the university gets _recognition_.
The beauty of the university is that they increase the knowledge of the society as a whole, not just a select few who can BUY that knowledge and use it for their sole benefit.
Christmas has taken on a new meaning for a lot of people.
No, I'm not talking about consumerism.
You dno't have to be celebrating any particular religious events, but it is a good time to get together with friends and family, and celebrate what _is_ important to you. Maybe you can call people you haven't talked to in a while, or apologize to someone you have been neglecting. Maybe you just want to feel good about something so you can make a donation, or think of a gift for something who needs it.
There's a lot to feel good about and celebrate besides a faith you may or may not partake in.
I can't wait for this one: ChipNDales
Would you be willing to applaud someone who makes their website IE-only on purpose? I.e. not out of ignorance or laziness?
By your account, that would meet your criteria.

> Translation - "I don't need to go look for work right away. I have plenty of money for a while."...or am I misinterpreting that?
I'd say it's more like: "It was an uphill battle, and despite trying really hard, we failed. Time to find something that'll make money."
> Nethack is open source, which carries alot of weight with many Linux users
Explain to me again how to build a company around that? Oh right, by providing support... ugh...
Modding is simply a difference of opinion.
AOL? Redhat? IBM? someone please help these guys.

Would you prefer the analogy of someone stealing your pager, it paging you to notify it, and then you breaking into a house to get it back?

Wow, what a great point... I sure can't think of any other companies with failed products.
Maybe your M$ hall of fame should have included:
Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, MSOffice, MSO95,97,2000, IE 3.x,4.x,5.x,6.x.
I'd say their successfull products MORE than make up for their shortcomings.
Perhaps the linux movement will be strengthened by realizing the only way to compete with Microsoft is to offer an inexpensive clone.

How much is your time worth?
You forget - the GSOD is FUD.
Maybe he's trying to get both ends of the spectrum, and avoid the "middle" all together:
The (as katz puts it) left-ist "I like the colour" crowd, as well as the right-ist "*nix rules, down with M$" folks.
This is exactly the kind of 1337 crap that the majority of computer users _DON'T CARE ABOUT_.
The player is holding the gun.
The gun has 3 barrels at the end (I assume for a multi-shot rocket ala UT's multi-rocket launcher). Also, just to the left of the (G) is a plunger (presumably for loading the barrels)
Troll? Please... I think you missed the point - there is no settlement that would make your average slashdotter happy.
I think that the judges should just dissolve MS in its entirety, and make it illegal to use Windows.
Then the world would be a happy place right?
Right?

If it was called KSomethingElse, would you know what it did?
Didn't think so. Maybe morons should understand that infringing on trademark isn't just about 'confusion'.
What's that you say? Not yet.
Fuck.

Don't just blame corporations, several governments have recently been uncovered to have conspired against UN anti-polution conferences and programs.

Anyone else notice the older news piece you linked to was also posted by timothy?
Does he not even remember the "cool news" he posts? Or is timothy to fuel cell news as hemos is to nanotech.
