Maybe you're not aware of the fact that MDs use lossy compression (ATRAC3 i think) just like mp3s do. So I don't know where you get the idea that you're not sacrificing any music quality. I'm actually pretty sure that a 192Kbps mp3 sounds better than MD
Yeah, just like the PC is a games machine, DVD player, stereo. Not just that though, it's a development machine as well, not to mention the best way to access the net.
Yeah what you've just described is the situation on the PC. And yes, sometimes people release new chips that are faster, like when 3dfx released the Voodoo, and nVidia's chips. But, at the end of the day, this is what competition is about. As long as there's a standard like OpenGL or DirectX, all the systems stay compatible.
The question we have to ask is "what can we do to get this stupid law changed?". I've been thinking about this, and perhaps it would be a good idea to set up a non-profit org, which could lobby against big business, in the interests of citizens. HMM I hope I'm not describing the EFF here:)
Whjat does this mean for Bluetooth? I would think that having wireless FireWire would eliminate the need for bluetooth. But then Bluetooth has some serious backing, like Ericsson, Microsoft, Nokia, etc. But then Sony, Apple, etc are supporting FireWire....I just hope this doesn't lead to another VHS vs BetaMax war.
...is why HP would do something like this to piss Microsoft, when, a few day's when they announced ending development on OpenMail, that one of the reason's they we're ending development was because they thought created friction with microsoft.
Ohh well probably shows the amount of bs that goes into press releases
Don't you think that before we actually decide to terraform this place, we should investigate it thoroughly first? Sure, we could try to head the place up by dumping a few nuclear reactors there, changing the atmosphere, but it would also mean that we could never investigate it in it's original form. And, with NASA saying they found life on Mars, that might just be worth doing no?
I don't think that is a very likely scenario. At the time 3dfx was king, Graphics chips were nowhere near as complex as they are now. I would say that the barriers to entry in this market have increased exponentially since then, I mean, the GeForce 3 is more complex than the Pentium 4! And anyway, nVidia released a 3D accelerator before 3dfx did (Diamond Edge 3d). They would probably have stayed ahead if they hadn't had the stunt with Sega (check out firingsquad.com 's history of nVidia)
Anyone find it interesting that on the Windows XP page, they keep referring to Windows Media Player 8 as "mp8". Sounds to me they might decide to use that as FUD to get all the newbies out there to say "ohh man mp8 is way better than mp3".
Yeah fine, Gnutella has technical problems, but as you say, the RIAA will have an impossible task shutting it down in court. But then there are always alterenatives to Gnutella that have less technical problems. (Freenet, anyone?)
Mario 64 was decent? I'm sorry that's not how I would judge it. Before TombRaider and all that crap, Mario64 was the first game to give a really awesome 3rd person 3D control system. At the time it came out, I remember being completely blown away by it: this was at the time I still had a Pentium 60 running Win95 (it gives me a headache just thinking about it). Anyway, my point is that Mario64 was fun for it's simplicity: in 15 years, i'll still be able to start playing it and have a good time....and I don't think i would say that about many games!
The two good games for n64? What about Mario64? WaveRace? GoldenEye? Perfect Dark? MarioCart? I would say those games together with the Zelda games definitely justify the n64's existance. On Playstation besides Metal Gear, there have been very few games that seem to be classics to me.
Ahh, but great hackers do not make great game designers necesarily. Let's see: Shigeru Miyamoto, Peter Molyneux, etc. They're not exactly John Carmack style hackers are they?
Anyway, this guy doesn't seem to get the point that his own company(Nintendo) keeps proving over and over again: games are an essential part of life for kids! Why do you think Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc have been so essential? I think that as long as there are kids, there will be a market for videogames. And then there are all of the old "kids" (like me, well I'm 21 so i'm not a kid:) ) who have grown up with videogames and 'll stay gamers for the rest of our lives.
The point he makes about gameplay being more important than graphics is something that any gamer knows instinctively anyway.
If you want the freedoms that the GPL provides, only use GPL'd (or less restrictive, a la BSD) licensed sosftware.
Did you read what RMS said about the Kerberos stuff:
"In 2000, Microsoft undermined the Kerberos secure login software in this way. They added a small secret feature to their version of the Kerberos software, simply to make it incompatible. The standard, free software version of Kerberos cannot communicate with Microsoft's modified Kerberos server. The result: anyone who wants to communicate with the Microsoft server software has to run Windows on his desktop.
The Kerberos community was incensed when they saw this, but they had no way to stop it. Kerberos had been developed at MIT, and released as free software--but not under the GNU GPL. The lax license used for Kerberos was no bar to Microsoft's plans. If the Kerberos developers had released Kerberos under the GPL, Microsoft could not have undermined it in this way."
Actually, China's Space program is getting really big. They're planning to go to Mars, and I think they see it as an important thing to achieve before the US does, to confirm their status as superpower.

If only there were an free version of paypal, which were as secure, and wouldn't charge fees

What I think they tried in the article is that HP wanted to give user's a choice besides PocketPC. So user's could choose linux or palmos.

Ok, but I think he was talking about the G4, not the G3. But anyway, there's that comment by John Carmack: here
ok then why, when you go to amazon.com, and scroll to the bottom of the page, does it say "powered by hp"???
