They're in both the advertising business and the news business. They have to sell newspapers to news readers and they have to sell advertising to advertisers.
It could just be incompetence. XM has some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. They have no clue about their own technology. They don't know what's required to activate a radio and they are totally paranoid about piracy. When your radio needs reactivation they ask for all kinds of ridiculous identity verification to reactivate. I hate to call them for anything!
CNBC had a guy on yesterday or Wednesday who was saying that his market survey was showing the demand for the iPhone, even at the price Apple quoted, is huge and way underestimated. The CNBC interviewer was also misinterpreting the survey data and thinking it was actually showing almost no demand. The guy from the company that did the survey corrected her and was talking about how huge the demand for this actually is. I don't know what company did the survey. Maybe it's on CNBC somewhere.
Science and technology is just give lip service here in America. We don't value science and tech geeks here. You want to earn some real money? Don't wast your time in science - go study law.
Yeah, if you don't have problems with spam then why sign up with bluesecurity? But I've had my e-mail address for 12 years now and I've been careful also about how I've used it. I have at least three throw-down addresses for possible spammers. But all it takes is for my primary address to get on one spam list and then it starts spreading. My address is becoming overrun with spam now and I'm ready to join the arms race. I have nothing to lose now. I could abandon my e-mail address, but it become a bit nostalgic for me.
I guess I don't really understand your opposition to the arms race. Are you opposed to other people doing this? The whole point is to make it uncomfortable and unprofitable enough that it cuts down on spam. Is there another way of stopping them? Why should I have to live in fear of letting out my e-mail address and spend time deleting offensive trash when I can fight back?
I agree the great majority of their events were great and fun and no one with hurt feelings. Maybe they'd do things differently on a couple like the birthday thing and the band thing.
Some of the people who were the targets of the improv were really traumatised by it. I listened to the ThisLife segment and thought it was really funny but I wouldn't want to be the target of one of these.
I with you man! I'm so fed up with all the riff-raff on the freeways. There should be a separate license just to get on. And only advanced drivers in the hammer lane!
From the Houston Chronicle: White, citing data analyzed by researchers at Rice University and the Texas Transportation Institute, said Tuesday that freeway crashes declined from an average of 14,670 a year in 2003 and 2004, to 13,137 in 2005.
I can't find the fatality and injury statistics but I don't believe the towing program could be responsible for increased deaths and injuries. It's just not the kind of thing that logically would do that. It should make freeways safer because people break down on the freeways (not just on the shoulder) and getting them off the freeways just has to be safer.
The towing program has made Houston freeways much better for predictably getting where you want to go in a reasonable time. Before the program a stalled car on the freeway would cause major traffic tie-ups. It just had to be done and I give kudos to Bill White for being brave enough to do it in spite of all the naysayers. I think Bill White is doing a good job here.
I use knives almost every day but I don't normally consider them to be weapons. That is such a different point of view. Interesting how different people are.
Why the hell should I pay to e-file when it's saving the IRS money? They don't have to pay someone to key in my data so they're saving money. They should pay me the savings or at least make e-filing free.
If all the cable and dish companies caved to Viacom then the other networks will also want in on the action (NBC ABC etc.) and it will escalate and we, the viewers, will all pay for it in the end. Cable and dish prices already outpace inflation this will make it worse!
Taking a look at insider stock sales at Dell, the company looks very much like Enron. Everybody's dumping their shares and Michael is the biggest Dell share dumper of all. It's as though he can't get rid of it fast enough and that's always a bad sign.
The table also shows the top 10% earn 42% of all income so paying 55% of all the taxes isn't really such a big sacrifice.
Facebook is like the new AOL of the internet. A walled off, members only version that doesn't want any outside association or connections.

I think they only listened to that part.

I really don't think Hurd will do any jail time.
Was Embedded Windows ever in use (with exception of PDA's)? Embedded Linux isn't taking market share from Embedded Windows.

I read about Enologix in Forbes. They have a model of Robert Parker's taste and can predict how Parker would rate a wine within a few points.

How embarrassing for the Brits. That would be like having a Royal Placebo Hospital. On second thought I guess it makes sense for pretty many people.
